I feel homeless situation was down played a bit. As a lady, going to the baseball games now is downright pathetic if you come is from the east side of the stadium. Petco is a gorgeous ballpark but NEVER ever would I go by myself now, especially to a night game. BUT If I was staying where all the major hotels are on the west side, then yes I would go by myself. It just shows you how the city can clean up certain sections if they want. I love that you included the video bit where San Francisco was cleaned up for the Chinese dignitaries just to go back to an awful situation.

Finally a realtor that tells the truth! I can't tell you how many KZbin videos by San Diego realtors I've seen who outright ignore these issues like homelessness, crime, and the high cost of living. Thank you for being honest and passionate! By the way, the East Village was always this way, in fact it used to be worse. I first moved to downtown San Diego in 2003 before the stadium was there and first thing people told me was don't go to the East Village. The problem is the City has been trying to gentrify it and put million dollar condos in basically San Diego's skid row and the new residents moving in get "surprised" at the real state of the neighborhood. Little Italy, the Marina district, Columbia, and Cortez Hill are the best and safest to live. (And work.) And yes, lots of that urine and feces smell are from dogs. Sometimes I think there are more dogs downtown than people lol and their owners let them go just anywhere. As for "green spaces," there is plenty of wild nature close by. In Switzer Canyon, just next to Balboa Park and less than a five minute drive from downtown, you feel like you're actually out in the wilderness, out in the country, or up in the mountains. Also check out Maple Canyon, close to Little Italy, and the Balboa Park trails like Florida Canyon. Despite all the many, many, many problems here, i still believe downtown San Diego is the best downtown in California. And again, thanks for being real!

Wifey n I are from Oceanside, but we just took a day off to go walk around the Harbor area. We've always loved the area, but that day really has us wanting to move downtown now. Heck, It's almost cheaper than up here. Great video though, answers a ton of questions I already have in my head. My only concern is our doggies. Everything else tho feels so perfect. 4th of Julys, Padre games, walks... We're still feeling the buzz lol. Actively looking for that right apt now. 🤞 - Again, great video. Thanks!

@@AHill760 if you love that downtown feel (like I do) it scratches that itch. I love being close to the water too. Good luck to whatever you decide.

I lived and worked in SD for 2.5 years. I left San Diego in 2021. I lived in downtown area, in East Village. I might come back to San Diego next month. I am just wondering whether it is Ok and safe to live in downtown area nowadays. Thank you.

That’s why own downtown and in the burbs if I get tired of either or I’ll switch it up hence why I own at the grande south DT and a 4033 sqft home in the burbs the best of both worlds!!!!!! But being single in a 4000+sqft how is a bit crazy but ehhhhhh it’s a fully own investment allowing me the partially retire at 40 from a local ER so beside the maintenance I don’t care life’s comfortable. And I love the traveling and the porsche donuts and coffee meet ups in DAGO!!!!!!!

I was born and raised here. Before you all started moving into the expensive boxes, it was full of flop houses where the homeless lived. The clean up started in the late 70s and small changes leading to the "East Village" creation during the 80s. Now, we have watered down criminal legislation and the excuse of Covid to let out thousands of of prison. Now we have people who rather stay on the street subsidized by the Homeless Industrial Complex. Meaning, they can do their drugs/booze on the streets. I disagree on the smell. You'd have to have a stadium full of dogs to pee and poop on the streets. If you know your smells, this is human smell, not animal. I bet you didnt know that the city started to power wash the streets because of Hep A and now it's Shaghella. I've gone to work downtown (20 yrs working there) where fecal matter was smeered on our doors, door knobs and steps. In all my 53 yrs, downtown has never gotten so bad like this and it's a shame.

Everyone is moving out of Downtown lately. It's just not ideal at the moment due to the unhoused population. Probably a good time to snag a good deal though

It ebbs and flows. It was pretty bad in like early to late spring. I live in the marina and when i first moved there a year ago there was no homeless in that area at all. I noticed as it got colder and well into the spring a lot more homeless started to appear and tents began to show up. As of recently, as comic con was about to happen the homeless population in the marina and Columbia district DRASTICALLY decreased. Now most of them only hang out along C st and behind the court house or in East village and Gaslamp. Only a few stragglers around my neighborhood
