This is MY top 40 favorite thrash metal records. Yes, I realize there are albums left off that others will think should be on it. I also realize that some of these albums others will not like as much. This is just MY personal favorites. If I had done 50 I would have added more bands. However, I do confess that I accidentally left off two bands I might have added, Laaz Rockit, Forbidden, Heathen, Sepultura and others.

This was awesome man. It's one thing to just read lists like this and go listen to the records wondering what their impact must've been like when they came out, but hearing your own personal story with each one really brings some perspective to these albums. You're really preserving and sharing an important part of history here - keep making vids like this!

Thank you. I appreciate the encouraging words. I'm glad you could see that this was a "personal" list of favorites. Reading though the comments on this video you'd think I committed some cardinal sin for not including more European bands, or not picking Bonded By Blood or Reign in Blood as the greatest thrash albums of all time. Haha! Thank you again for watching and commenting.

Thrash has always been on of my favorite genres of heavy metal. It has aggression and speed but retains the hooks, guitar work and melody of heavy metal, which are all sorely lacking in most metalcore and deathcore IMO.
@hinjurock70
@hinjurock70 4 жыл бұрын
@@nolifetilmetal1 Metalcore, deathcore and pretty much all new school extreme metal is trash - the "vocals" (term used loosely) are highly limited and all sound pretty much the same, the riffs are generic, and the songs are unmemorable. All newer fans of the genre seem to care about now are shredding guitars and super-fast double bass, but a lot more goes into making great metal than that.

One song by a Canadian band that really shook my foundations was Blower by Voi Vod. I'm too old to understand the difference between blackened folk-prog-speed-thrash and folkened black-prog-doom-thrash, but when Voi Vod's first album came out, they were considered to be thrash. Great album too. War & Pain, was it? I've never really cared much about genre's and sub-genres (not to mention sub-sub-sub-sub-genres). Another Canadian band I really liked a lot (still do) is Anvil. I guess they are more heavy metal (speed metal?). Who cares? They make good music. I'll have to give Infernal Majesty a listen.

Good to see different views/ideas on best thrash albums. It is just so hard to qualify what album I like or think is better. Some classics for me include and I am just naming them as they come to my mind: 1-Reign in Blood (Slayer), 2-Master of Puppets (Metallica), 3-Bonded by Blood (Exodus), 4-Peace Sells (Megadeth), 5-Seven Churches (Possessed), 6-Hell Awaits (Slayer), 7-Kill Em All (Metallica), 8-The Legacy (Testament, they have a couple records "better" but for pure thrash this is insane) 9-Killing Technology (Voivod), 10-Violent Revolution (Kreator---yep I know it's not 80s classic), 11-By Inheritance (Artillery), 12-Among the Living (Anthrax), 13-Years of Decay (Overkill), 13-The Ultra Violence (Death Angel), 14-Agent Orange (Sodom), 15-Ride the Lightning (Metallica), 16-South of Heaven (Slayer), 17-No Place for Disgrace (Flotsam & Jetsam), 18-Alice in Hell (Annihilator), 19-Dimension Hatross (Viovod), 20-Survive (Nuclear Assault), 21-Killing Peace (Onslaught), 22-Eyes of Horror EP (Possessed), 23-Eternal Nightmare (Vio-lence), 24-Fabulous Disaster (Exodus), 25-Spreading the Disease (Anthrax)...25 is enough LOL.

I picked up that Flotsam & Jetsam at one of those local warehouses that buys lost freight. I just happened to to see it in a box for 99 cents or something ridiculous. Great picks! I would have added SOD's Speak English or Die, just based on the musicians and that they were the intros and outros of Headbanger's Ball back in the late 80's with the car crashes, stunts gone wrong, and train wrecks. I guess it was more of a punk/metal crossover sound, but songs were definitely thrashy.

Man, when you said that about Dark Angel's Time does Not heal, that really made my day. Nothing against Slayer, on the contrary, but, imo, after South of Heaven their slatanic thrash became more trimmed and groomed in the big corporate picture ; with Dark Angel it went shooting up for the sky with Darkness Descends, which I've always considered not necessarily better but at least a more interesting ride than Reign in Blood ( and that isn't even metal blasphemy, since there are many thousands of metalheads who think the same). 3 years later, Leave Scars was maybe not as fast but surely at least twice as heavy - it's a very intense and brutal thrash masterpiece. Also maybe the band's approach in taking time to record and play live, has always been rewarding because Time does not heal is the sum of all previous parts plus a new hint of crystal clear sound yet sharp as a Samurai sabre. Cheers from Portugal.

Well glad to see at least one person agrees with me. About half the comments on this video are how I committed blasphemy by such words, or have sinned for not including someone else's favorite band or even how I am "ignoring European bands" in this list of personal favorites. Im really glad you included a Testament album. I think practice what you preach and souls of black, are 2 must have thrash metal albums. Ride the lightening is my favourite metallica album too. And it doesnt mean metallica sold out just because they did a softish ballad song on that album, no one accuses venom of that, for the song burried alive. Anthrax's album spreading the disease is the first album i ever bought on CD. You should have included Sepultura's album Arise, another must have thrash album.

I plan on getting Annihilator's Alice In Hell pretty soon along with Accuser's latest. I tried getting into Overkill but I just cant get past the vocals. I find it interesting that despite Thrash being a genre which attracted a ton of bands to it, & it being the kind of genre that the fans love to find the new band that no one else has heard of, the 'underground' so to speak, ultimately it is those classic albums by the bands everyone knows that rises to the top. For example, I didn't listen to much Thrash beyond the mid 1980's (by which time my taste had veered more towards the power/progressive metal of bands like Queensryche) but even so your top few picks are fairly familiar to me (apart from your number 2 which I admit I'd never heard of), & my top ten thrash albums wouldn't differ to far from your own. Personally I would have Doomsday For The Deceiver & Master Of Puppets & Mortal Sin's Mayhemic Destruction in there somewhere, but otherwise it would be bands like Megadeth, Overkill, Anthrax & Exodus. Cool video.

I got the Metal Blade reissue of Flotsam & Jetsam: Doomsday For The Deceiver. Voivod is up favorite Canadian band ever. I have the first 4 on vinyl. Personally I love War & Pain just because it is just so rough and raw. The vocals were really harsh for the middle 1980s. I like the Believer: Sanity Obscure because not only is the music awesome, but the vocals reminded me of early era Voivod. One of my friends did not like the puking/constipated sounding vocals, but I think it intensified the music even more.
