I purchased the airmail 71jt from Amazon . But the nib didn't perfom as per it's price. But when I replaced the nib with kanwrite then it became super performer. Highly Highly recommend.

Nice to see Wality 71JT on top of this list. It is a truly nice model. Wality 69T is also good (has few cosmetic changes in look compared to 71JT).

Regarding the intro: If there is one 'English speaking' people who can use inferred put downs, in English, better than the English themselves it has to be Indians! You had me laughing out loud. Dr Con is the voice of reason. Magnificent. It was heartening to see that the Indian manufacturers haven't gone down the road of cheap Chinese nibs which have poorer quality tips. Also to appreciate the great quality and value of some of these lovely offerings. I was a little taken aback by the price of the custom Lotus pens. They are beautiful and seem well made. However for those prices and most often 'only' a Jowo nib? I am mindful of the lower overheads and on-costs of manufacturing in India. Those prices seem exceptionally high and sit right up there with Namiki and Montblanc, with their much higher overheads. If I might add: In the pursuit of good value and good writing experience, perhaps the theme of this vog, I believe that every fountain pen user needs to learn how to polish a nib. Also, ideally, how to change the nib wetness as well. These simple skills (See youtube for how-to, are one of key routes for getting a good, yet affordable, writing experience. I have a steel nibbed Lamy Al-Star which writes every bit as nicely as my Platinum 3776 (actually better than). It took this fumbling amateur less than five minute with some micromesh to achieve that. This was an enjoyable and enlightening watch. I look forward to your next, refreshing, review. Thank you.

This is a hilarious yet useful post. Thank you. Very glad to see Faber Castell Loom Metallic version as the smoothest pen and the second best in this list. Since it is not available easily (or just if one wants the same experience elsewhere), what pen would you recommend for a smooth writing experience under 100 dollars? I've seen your comparison of TWSBI ECO and LOOM. I think we need a better match to compete with the Loom.

One of my favourite pens is the very inexpensive Jinhao 51A with the exposed nib. I have two. For this second I bought a number 5 1.1 stub nib from ebay, it writes beautifully. The other one I worked on myself; it's now a stubbish nib, but narrower than the 1.1. Apart from those, I particularly like my flexy vintage Wahl Eversharp Skyline which was given to me by a nice person on FPN.

@@DrAmit-bt2zo I've just looked up the amount. There isn't much for that price. If you don't mind a pen which feels heavy in the hand you could try a Jinhao X450. Watch some videos about this first, and maybe some about fountain pens under £15.

Hi doctor, let me begin by complimenting you for the absolutely amazing collection of fountain pens that you have.. apart from the ones in this video, I’ve seen your other clips and I’d readily give an arm and a leg to have as many 😁 The two pens that really stood out for me in this video, were the Honey Dew and the last one for which I couldn’t quite catch the name.. both were exquisite! The ASA Nauka looked interesting and so did the Airmail 71JT and Lotus Student. So I wanted to ask ... How do you go about getting these pens? Do you write to the manufacturers to place your order or do you scour the internet to find these or do you buy from a brick & mortar store? I would like to connect and discuss in some detail for although I have a few pens - most having been handed down to me (a Sheaffer, a Parker and a Pilot - I don’t know what the names are but all that are from the 1960s at least) and some that I’ve bought (and lost) - I would like to build a diverse collection of fine writing fountains from both Indian and international makers.
