Somewhere around 1981 I got a Ruger Mini 14. I know a lot of them were not accurate, but some were. Mine was in the middle. With the open sights at 100yds, I could get reliable 2" groups. My brother-in-law had one and it would do no better than about a 3" to 4" groups at 100. Mine became the ranch truck gun. It has taken a lot of coyotes over the years. It works like a sewing machine. Before the AR-15 was America's rifle, the mini 14 was trying. With all the illegal invaders coming across the ranch, I have since upgraded to an AR, body armor in truck, ballistic helmet, full blown aid bag, and I carry a G19 on my belt ALL THE TIME. We are 60 miles from the Texas - Mexico border. We have had a shit ton of incidents requiring the Sherriff and Border Patrol. A platoon's worth was trying to hot wire the ranch truck one night. The wife and I caught 12. That many or more got away. I zip tied them while the wife pulled overwatch, then waited almost 2 hours for the Sherriff deputies and Border Patrol to collect them. Wish we could get illegal entrant tags when we get a hunting license. We might fix the problem locally. I'm 65. I'm getting too old for this shit. Ya'll be careful out there.
@JohnDoeEagle15 күн бұрын
I had mine in the mid to late 90s and it wasn't accurate at all. It was a 4 - 5 MOA gun and nowhere near as accurate as my Colt ARs at the same time. I moved it on down the road. It was a stainless Ranch with wood stock.

Affordability, modularity, parts/ammo availability, and ease of use/maintenance are all things which keep the AR15 at the top of the pile in terms of rifles. While, yes, it''s the certainly the prime target for legislators whenever something truly awful happens, but if we're being realistic, this is such a small thing to keep in mind when you're thinking about purchasing a mainline rifle. I think what does it for me is that you can easily switch to .22lr in minutes (with the right BCG), and have an absolute blast on the range without burning through money, and that's precisely what all of these rifles are meant for; the range. Now, in terms of a SHTF scenario, once again, I can pretty reasonably rely upon .223/.556 to be more available than most other callibers, but seeing as it will likely never come to that, I can always have the big scary rifle as a fun toy for now, and a great investment in the long term (that is, if legislators ever actually do go after them).

I’ve been thinking about buying an AUG all year, you might’ve sold me. It’s definitely between that and a DDM4 right now.
@JohnDoeEagle15 күн бұрын
I have a 2008 Microtech STG-556 which was a modern clone of the AUG. I have both the commando and tulip flash hiders for it and it is a black one with the factory AUG optic.

I am absolutely in love with my mcx spear LT in 300 blackout. I prefer it over the rattler because I wanted a 9" barrel. Pricey? Yes. But worth every penny.
@Olivehollow5 күн бұрын
Even tho it is pretty expensive the Sig Rattler LT is probably the best gun on the market to buy right now. Has so many uses and features. Just a badass little weapon.

Please continue to do these for non-US audiences. I agree that when you can buy an AR for $500, AND access gold match ammo it's kinda nuts not to. But here they go for $1k+ for shoddy (Taurus, Diamondback) one, 2k+ for good brand, $3,5k for Daniel Defence etc; +types of ammo are restricted and the alternatives are often significantly cheaper. AR on this side of the pond is a very different proposition monetarily.

What I really want is something That takes the same magazines, has the same level of mounting options, but can be fired with a folded stock at PSA prices.

All good stuff, but... For 2k, I'd still buy a decent PSA, an optic, and a case of M193

For $2K I’d buy a Geissele Super Duty and still buy everything else I need because I’m not poor.

Really like the things Sig has been doing lately! I really want an MCX. Also really want an Mini-14 though.
@Ondatrack23 күн бұрын
It sounds like you need an MCX-R Regulator. I just picked one up from PSA for $1399 and it included a free Sig P365 via rebate. I wouldn’t touch one at the original insane price but it’s now down close to Mini 14 pricing. I love my Mini 14 though so you won’t go wrong if you go that route either.

Have owned 3 mini 14's over the years and one mini 30. gotta agree. very reliable guns. only drawback as you mention is optics. wish I had bought a BREN and a Scorpion while i could. stupid washington AWB.

Love my Bren 2. But knowing that the Bren 3 is coming out soon makes me wonder how long the aftermarket is going to lag behind. That and the BR should come to the US.

recently got the sig MCX-R on the rebate they were running, seems like a very fun rifle, can't wait to take it to the range. uh, I mean "ranch"

I just grabbed one when PSA cut the price in half a couple of weeks ago and then the P365 rebate on top made it a no brainer. Mine came in yesterday and I can’t wait to get it out.
