Maurice Gibb - always the most un-showy of the Bee Gees, but these lines prove he was a monster of rhythm and creativity (and singing too!). What an (uncelebrated) legend.

Maurice Gibb never got the recognition he deserved as a bass player. He was a phenomenal composer of bass lines. They were essentially perfect for every song he put them to. Somewhat similar to Paul McCartney in his arrangement and approach. Truly outstanding.

My absolute favorite Bee Gees song is "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." I'm pretty fond of "I Started a Joke," too. I was late to the party in appreciating their disco music, but did eventually come around. The Brothers Gibb had a great sound, great song writing abilities, and great staying power. RIP to those who are no longer with us -- and here's wishing Barry a long, healthy life, enjoying the fruits of all that he worked for.

maurice went into bass playing thanks to paul mccartney, his biggest influence, i would say musically and on bass guitar of course. he was a multinstrumentalist, and he kept the bass role in the band until the 80s. his lines are so unique, because he wasn't only a bass player, he mas a multi talented musician with a special sensibility. that's why you find an unique touch on his playing that many other exclusively session players don't have.

@xylfox Жыл бұрын
He didn´t. It was the great studio-musician Harold Cowart(died 20212(R.I.P.). Thats the same basslines of "Here at last"(1977).He played them also on the 1979 BEE GEES Spirit tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4eslKWel7-LbZo with him in the background/backup-band .Look up wiki(bee-gees sprit-tour ,musicians) O.K. Maurice did play the bass on stage up to 1975 when they performed "solo",respective only as a trio. Butthere Maurice played only a more or less functional bass .From 1976 on they played with a big backup-band
@LynseyFenton Жыл бұрын
@@xylfox Yes he did. Howard Cowart only played the basslines on the tour that Maurice originally wrote and played on the studio albums. He couldn't play bass on tour, cause he was already playing acoustic guitar. Other musicians were brought in, like George Bitzer who played keyboards - an instrument that Maurice would also play from time to time. Howard Cowart toured with them, playing Maurice's basslines, but he certainly didn't play them on the albums, nor write them. The only albums that Howard played on were Spirits Having Flown, and Living Eyes, but that's essentially it.
