Damn, I've never seen Pete so heated over a topic. I get he doesn't like the #5 place, but it was voted by the fans, so he could've just said, "Meh, I don't get it. Do either of you understand?" And let Steve and Craig talk about it and just not say anything, instead of railing Craig over him saying he never had a bad experience there.

Pete clearly has trouble with conflicting opinions. It seems that he's been more and more dismissive of people that disagree with him, and sometimes it is a bit annoying to watch. Different opinions are fine, expressing the reasoning behind your opinion (even if unpopular) is fine. But constantly interrupting and them completely cutting off Craig when he tries to express his opinion when he didn't do the same to you is really rude.

I will say this in Garden Grill's favor: Easily the GREATEST character meal encounter I've ever heard at WDW was at Garden Grill. That was the first time I met Mickey, and the characters interacted a great deal with my family. Every single character. The best was Pluto stealing my brother's Squeeze Breeze and chasing Mickey around the restaurant. I even made friends with a cast member (I was maybe 7 or 8) and we made a special trip back and I bawled when she wasn't still working that day. While I genuinely cannot remember the food, I continue to encourage that establishment for how attentive and excited and fun the characters were there. :) The other choices were quite fascinating though!!

Pete, if you don't want to hear what your colleagues think, then don't bother asking them. Stop interrupting your fellow podcasters when you disagree if you ask for their opinions. The way you just cut off Craig about Garden Grille was very immature.

Reasons Garden Grill is one of my favourites: It rotates through The Land, the characters are super cute and spend a good amount of time at each table, the breakfast is just as good as any diner, and it gets you in to Epcot before rope drop. Crystal Palace is my favourite dinner because of the location and Winnie the Pooh. It also has the nostalgia factor for our family so that gives it a boost. No one in my family really wants to spend too much time sitting in a restaurant for table service while we are there so these two are right up our alley. And I have to agree about Cape May for breakfast. I've only been once, and it was a long time ago, but the interaction was outstanding and my 25 year old daughter who was 4 at the time still talks about that time Chip fainted because she called him Dale. The atmosphere was amazing and the food was too. We'll have to make sure to go there on our next visit to see if Chip remembers us!

Excellent guest relations at Crystal Palace. We ate there the other day and by the time we were finished eating and ready to leave, Pooh had not come by our table. Pooh is my daughter's all time favorite character so the hostess made a point of pulling Pooh aside and bringing him to us. It's little things like that, that make Disney so special.

Aw Tusker House!!! This was a last minute addition to my WDW trip, and we were so blown away by this experience! The ambiance is incredible, the food was way better than typical buffet (and that jungle juice! omg!) but the fab five in their explorer outfits is just the cutest thing ever. I also appreciated that this venue was well-designed for character dining with the wide walkways, the way the tables were arranged. It was much less hectic than other character dining experiences (particularly Disneyland's, which were retrofitted to old, smaller venues) and it gave it a nice and relaxed flow, despite the hustle and bustle of breakfast. But this was such a gold star on our dining experiences. Whenever I go back, I want to try new things, but Tusker House is one of those places that we can't stop talking about doing again.

My mom is 80yrs old and loves Disney but has a hard time with the adventurous food (medical issues). She gets uncomfortable with always having to ask for special dietary stuff. She loved Garden Grill and could eat almost everything. The characters, the atmosphere and the food variety were spot on for her. Much like people mentioning parents enjoying seeing their kids enjoy themselves, seeing her enjoy herself is worth it. The manager came over and made sure that we saw all the characters, had adequate time with them as well as got enough food. The food is wholesome and you can get as much as you want of what you like. It was a great time and we would all go back. I agree with Pete about Cape May Cafe. Amazing food and great characters.
@betsy38697 жыл бұрын
I understand being uncomfortable about asking for special dietary needs. My boyfriend and I are on a very specific diet in which we eat no animal products, no oils, and minimize our salt and sugar intake. He has heart problems, so we are on a diet based on the book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Caldwell Esselstyn Jr. We have found that Disney is very accommodating in all of the table service restaurants. Trying to find an oil-free meal is incredibly difficult, but the chefs at Garden Grill and The Coral Reef accommodated us perfectly. Other restaurants weren't able to eliminate the oil, but we were able to find plant-based options every time we asked for them. We got a lot of off- menu accommodations. If you ask, restaurant staff are usually very willing to help out with dietary needs. If you don't like asking, there is a way to modify your dining reservations to note any allergies or dietary requirements. That prepared the wait staff and chefs for our need for a customized meal.

I love Garden Grill! Love the atmosphere, the food is always good, GREAT character interaction and love the atmosphere. Living with the Land has a special place in my heart so I love that it rotates around the ride. You know what else I think people like about it? It's calm. Chef Mickey's, as great as it is, is chaotic. Running to the buffet, trying not to miss the characters, the celebration every 45 minutes. The GG is peaceful, the food and characters come to you. It's a nice break and you can usually get a reservation pretty easily. I like it there.

I agree with Craig. Garden Grill has an old fashioned Disney feeling to it almost nonexistent in Disney now. For a little while the ambiance is inviting and retro. You feel cocooned in unlike most new restaurants. The new ones resemble one big ol huge cafeteria. (Be our guest) The food is comfort food, and about the only place where we get filled. There is a bit of fun about the platform going around and the fact that the characters come to us without a hassle. By the way, we just retired and dont bring kids. You dont have to have kids to enjoy Disney. One last thing. My two cents: The charm of this show is that they have real people. Once they start censoring themselves, we would have robotic hosts. Hey, who has not over emphasized like crazy, their own point at one time or another? I may not agree with him in this point, but I will fight to the death for anyone to express themselves. This is the way discussions used to be, before the media.
@ZakkuTakku6 жыл бұрын
Could not agree more with your point of not having to have kids with you to enjoy Disney! My last trip in May of 2016 was a solo trip; just me, myself, and I. I enjoyed it immensely! The cast members, and most of the other guests I interacted with were wonderful people, and the characters I saw (both at standard meet and greets, and character meals) were great! They didn't let the fact that I was a solo adult male stop them from giving me the best experience they possibly could, and I will always be grateful for that! And as far as Pete's comments about Garden Grill, he's entitled to his opinion, as all of us are, but I respectfully disagree with him. I really enjoyed my meal, and overall experience at there! I would say for me, it was my favorite character meal, followed very closely by Tusker House!

Garden Grill is the only character dining I've done, so I don't have much to compare it to. We have four kids four and under, so I really appreciated the family-style service. No need to deal with menus. No need to coordinate trips to the buffet. They brought the food to the table, and it was good, and there was plenty of it. I also gravitated to it because I ate there previously in 1983. It wasn't character dining then. The menu had food that was available downstairs at the Farmer's Market, and at the same prices, which at the time seemed to be reasonable.

Craig is one of his MOST trusted employees and friends and they OFTEN disagree on things and KNOW it is done with love and mutual respect. Your whines are silly, and indeed this is the style of Pete and of all the Dis offerings and THAT is part of what makes them special and wonderful for those of us who get tired of all the faux-smiley-happytalk Disney/Orlando-related channels on youTube. So yeah, if you don't like it you really DO need to find somewhere else to watch, because it isn't going to change, and your nonsense complaints are just boring, not relevant, to here.

Conclusion: Pete doesn't like Character meals. LOL Totally understand where he is coming from but to judge a character meal solely on food alone is missing half of the equation. BTW the appeal of Garden Grill (so I hear) is that it's small so you don't have to wait too long for characters to come around to your table and in some cases, you get to see them twice which is almost impossible (or highly unlikely) at the bigger places like Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's
@GiggleGoddess887 жыл бұрын
Mc Kenna yeah it seems the only thing he's looking at is good quality food. Not characters. Not whether the run of the mill visiter/family can afford/get a reservation. Yes he's entitled to his opinion BUT when everything this episode is supposed to talk about like why it's best or worst and he just says they all suck to him... Is kind of a letdown. Especially when he's domineering the conversation. I like great quality food but I'm not going to turn down a place just because they have "plain" food. When it comes to food I look more at Craig and Ryno's take/videos . I don't want to call them "average" LOL (b/c they are amazing! ) but to me they represent us average joes/families who aren't food snobs...they show us the good food (or bad, lol) that everyone can enjoy...sometimes more adventurous at times...but heck they seem to cover it all! I guess when you can afford gourmet dining and concierge level service on cruises and hotel stays you'd have that expectation of high quality food and only look at that aspect. But what percentage of the people who follow their shows can afford that level of luxury? Thank heavens we have Craig and Ryno (and Steve)! I miss Oliver but I found him on another channel with JL: -)

I don't completely disagree with you, Jessica, but all the character meals have a premium price -- and when one of them can do quality food at the price, why not all? So I think he is right to critique the food.

I agree with Pete, we do the character meals with our kids and while it's special to see their delight and enjoy their experience, Disney is taking advantage of us by charging high fees for subpar food. You can pay the same for a buffet at vegas and get AMAZING meals. I know it's disney but they can serve some great food throughout the parks and resorts so it really needs to carry over to all the locales.

My wife and I had ours on the "Empress Lilly" back in the day, and we had an excellent meal and time with the characters. Too bad some things change.

In Chef Mickey's defense: it is the only restaurant my 8 year old son has requested we go back to.

I'm glad you changed it to separate polls. Keeping it in 1 poll sort of means that anything that didn't get voted on at all is actually the worst because the lowest things still got voted on.

I go to Disney with my sis and mom. We're all adults, but we like character meals because we still like to take pics with characters and it's the best way to get the major ones. However, our list is very different. For example, for us, Tusker house wasn't a great experience because we didn't like the service we got. Also, we are always a bit put off when you have to buy the photo with the main character, like with Donald at Tusker House. Mostly we do characters for breakfast, and so we, or at least I, rank Chef Mickey's pretty highly. The breakfast is basic but great everywhere and I love meeting the Mickey and the gang in the Chef Mickey atmosphere. Though Ohana breakfast is a fave of ours too (Mom and sis consider that their fave). Dinner at Garden Grill is another top fave and we loved the food. I also love the Princess breakfast at Arkershus (sp?). Crystal Palace is generally a great place for breakfast with Pooh. I loved breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, but my sis didn't. I think my mom did. Off the top of my head, the only other we've done is dinner in Cinderella's castle. I didn't care for the food, but it's always cool meeting princesses and I love the setting, and I'd go back just for all that. So far, I think we've only returned to Ohana's breakfast and Crystal Palace, but I want to revisit all of them and try the ones I haven't yet too. I haven't truly disliked any, but the only ones that we didn't love every aspect of were Tusker and Cinderella's, and 1900 for my sis.

I agree with the poll. I like Tusker House but ate dinner only. I don't remember it was character dining. I like Mickeys Back Yard Bbq but food is ok, characters are dressed accordingly but lines are long for pictures. However, the kids can dance with the characters.

Brunch at chef Mickey's is pretty good! Ohana used to have characters at dinner along time ago. Fort Wilderness Lodge had a brrakfast and Liberty Tree Tavern had a lunch and dinner! I think Disney should bring back more character dining.

Whoa calm down there, buddy. Not everybody has the same taste as you... Anyway, other than breakfast, the Tusker House has absolutely nothing I can or will eat there. Some people, like myself, are extremely picker eats, as well as having a lot of food anxieties. So I will not be eating anything exotic. That is why places like the Garden Grill are good for us.

We had my sons 5th birthday party at Chef Mickey's. The food was below average but my son loved seeing the characters. We spent a fortune and my husband said we could have done fine dining for the same price we paid for this. We definitely prefer Ohana!

I loved Ohana. But the server was rushing us terribly. She gave us the check 20 minutes after we arrived, Lilo almost didn't interact. On the other hand, Mickey, Pluto and Stitch were great. Food was awesome.

I love Garden Grill. Food was great and Character interaction is superb. Usually you get to see the characters twice.

I've had breakfast at both the garden grill and Tusker House. Had a great time at both, though I was about six when I ate at Garden Grill and fourteen when I ate at Tusker House. It must be like Pete said, it's an age thing.

I've never even heard of Tusker House or Cape May. Will have to look into both.

I'm surprised that Cinderella's Royal table didn't make the list . I've never been there, but it seems like a good way to meet all of the princesses.

My favorite character meals are Garden Grill and Ohana. Because the food is good and family style. They also aren't too big so you can see those characters twice unlike Chef Mickey's. I would recommend Ohana or Garden Grill over Chef Mickey's.
