My main concern is the _"proprietary"_ and _"product lock-in"_ trap. I dont want to deal with being entrapped by online activation, subscription-based useage, and proprietary dongle-only use.

Then don't go with the ONE-R, that is literally the worst offender. You can't even use their camera without using the app. Also, something I didn't learn until I got the camera, NO VIDEO OUT (ON ANY OF THEIR CAMERAS, not even the 360 offerings), every other action cam supports it, even the Akaso brand that are literally half the price and more in some instances, in some instances a third of the price. Akaso doesn't require the app to do anything and just works out of the box, they're not bad. I have the 7LE and the one before it that did do proper 4k60. Those are better, the ones that do 4k60 than the 7LE even image wise.

As someone who has bought 3 GoPros over the past 2 years, I'm beyond disappointed at how long they last (even when not exposed to the elements). Less than 2 years and then stops working GoPro is the Beats of small recording cameras. To me they're the same as ComCast and EA

Was going for 360 one as you can get a regular lens and it very sharp but it's as the go pro 7 white the 360 need the app to change setting . Wtf... LOl
