I think it's a little amusing how overtly elemental the sets are for a species that canonically lack elemental powers.

09 was great and I feel the Bara Magna arc is super underrated. Gets a lot of flak for not being the Matoran Universe and not having Toa or elemental powers. But it was so fresh and new and made me excited to explore a new world again like we did way back in 01 with Mata Nui. And of course the sets were indeed great. The designs were distinct, but the colors were what really sold me. After so much silvers and dark shades from previous years, it was great seeing how bright and colorful the 09 sets were. Love 'em.

I love all the callbacks to the early Bionicle, that we can find in the Glatorian sets. Like some Toa Mata weapons recoloured (Tahu's flame sword in Medium Blue with Berix), or Strakk's axe looking like that Axe character head from the early Bionicle concept arts. This plus all the vibrant colours they had, this wave feels like a return to form, yet still with its own identity

The colours and the new moulds/pieces... man, 2009 was SO refreshing. I mean, canister sets are still Inika builds, but the designers really nailed the characters with the limits of that same base build. Strakk is GLORIOUS. Then again, what more could be said about the vehicles? Or Skirmix, a friggin' T-Rex!! Oh, by the way, Ben... I actually own two Skopio XV-1: I got one as a birthday present in 2009, then, 12 years later, a friend of mine simply gifted me his '09 collection, which included his own Skopio. So, yeah, all things and dreams do come true eventually.

One reason I really love Malum was how as a fire themed bionicle character, who is typically a leader, and a noble example, was completely the opposite. In the comics he was ruthless and abhorrent. Absolutely love it. Also After Kalmah, Gresh was the first Bionicle set I bought. Kalmah was a birthday present.

You could mention almost any character from Glatorian era, shout out to Kiina for her unique torso design. When I saw Ackar for the first time he seemed like the most generic set made from spare parts, even reusing Berix's helmet seemed lame, but when I got him I fell in love, finally we get back old school Mata red and he just looks really cool. Same with Tarix, looks really generic but once you build him his colors just pop out + I love the aqua blade design. For me it's really hard to pick the best Glatorian design, but I will go with Ghresh just for the nostalgia factor alone as he was my first Glatorian.

Ya know, I actually got a Vorox for Christmas one year, at that point, the last new Bionicle I got was Jaller from Inika, because I was collecting Transformers. Not a bad figure, I just wished the parts didn't feel so cheap. Unfortunately, mine broke at a few of the joints. But man, he sure was fun.

I actually bought Gresh back in 2009! He was great! Too bad all his joints cracked... Still, I've gotten a few good uses out of his pieces over the years, even those cracked limbs were not so badly damaged that I couldn't use them as part of a Frogracer MOC. Can't keep him together though, he'd probably just fall over and die. Big sad... And you thought 2009 was good for Bionicle, it was also a great year for Star Wars because it was the 10th Anniversary! We got sets of things that hadn't been made yet for the Original Trilogy, and then there were plenty of Clone Wars things, too, that were brand new. Even some of the revamps were not unwarrented, and they looked great. It was a good year. Not to brag, but I bought, or was given every set of the year, but returned 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT because it was just too big and there weren't any new minifigs to concern myself with. My friend had one though, and while he thought it was cool, he was of the same agreement, just a bit too big and unwieldy. We must have had a good financial year or something because my dad bought every set, kept them hidden at work, pretended he had a guy, and we were able to get the sets cheaper from him. I won't lie, I thought it was a little sketchy, but I was too old for Santa, but still young enough to have that child-like glow from receiving a new LEGO set, I wasn't too concerned with how, just so long as I got the sets, and having a few bucks knocked off meant I had extra in my saved allowance to buy a few other sets from "the guy." Looking back at it now, LEGO definitely got the better end of the bargain because some of these price to piece ratios are outrageous, and I wouldn't have bought half of them today. Also, a lot of these sets are more just big to capture all the detail, not necessarily provide more functions, but they do look good, and I'm still very pleased to have them as part of my collection. Alright, list time: *5. 7748 Corporate Alliance Tank Droid* I'd probably get some flack for this, but I really like this set. It's not as colorful or vibrant as the one from 2005 in 7258 Wookiee Attack, but it's accurate to what you see in the Clone Wars movie and show, and you get something really special at the time; Jet Troopers! The new jetpack piece was just being introduced, and on top of that, there was even a little seesaw included so you could launch the Jet Troopers into battle. I just find it a lot of fun. *4. 7749 Echo Base* This is a great army builder, even if you just got the one copy. My Hoth display needed a bit of bulking up, and this set did just that. More rebels for the trenches and a turret to fend off the incoming Imperial forces, it's wonderful. The really weird thing about this set though is that it's advertised opposite to how you build the set. Everything is mirrored! It's really weird, but I'm not too upset because there's nothing specific keeping you from building the set how it looks in all the art because it looks better that way. Also, Tauntaun, the first LEGO Tauntaun! This set was a must have for that alone, it also just so happened to be awesome, too. *3. 8018 Armored Assault Tank (AAT)* Weirdly enough, the best Clone Wars sets this year were the ones depicting something from the Separatists, but that's okay, we need them in order to have a war! And while this set is technically a rehash from 2000's 7155 Trade Federation AAT, and nothing will top it's printed paneling, this version was given the Separatist Color Treatment. It's a bit more stable, there's a little cargo train that slots in the back and makes up some of the back paneling, there's Rocket Launcher Super Battle Droids, and the set even includes Yoda so you can recreate scenes from the very first episode of the show, Ambush! For 11 years, it was the only Separatist version of the AAT until 2020 with 75283 Armored Assault Tank (AAT), and I quite like it even though it got a lot of flack, but if you really want an AAT and can't get the OG one, you have to get this version. Accurate to the show, plenty of conflict in a box, it's good, and was worth the extra 10 dollars back in the day. *2. 7778 Midi-scale Millennium Falcon* It wasn't given the Classic Box Art for the other 10th Anniversary sets, however it was given the 10th Anniversary seal in a corner, so it counts, and up until the most recent 75375 Millennium Falcon, I maintained that it was the best version of the Falcon. I probably won't get the new version because I have this one, but to have a ship be big enough to get the details yet be something you could hold in your hand was a big plus, and I was sad to see the Midi-Scale sets die just one year later until the recent revival. The only con I have about this set are the amount of stickers. While this version will likely be overshadowed by the new one, it was a great change in pace at the time between going really small with a mini model, being gappy with a playset version, or being supersized with the UCS versions. To me, this will still be the best looking Falcon because it is still unapologetically LEGO while still being a representative of Star Wars. Honorable Mentions and the final spot in the reply...
@MCLegoboy8 ай бұрын
Honorable Mentions: *20007 Republic Attack Cruiser, 20009 AT-TE Walker, 20010 Republic Gunship* These BrickMaster Subscription exclusives are some fantastic mini models. It was so cool to get a new polybag every couple of months with an extended version of the LEGO Magezine, and when it was a Star Wars set, it was extra special. *8036 Separatist Shuttle* Not the most flashy set, but it was great to get these figures, and the ship was featured pretty extensively in Clone Wars. Those Separatist higher ups gotta have something to travel in. *8016 Hyena Droid Bomber* Just cool iteration on the Vulture Droid being made in LEGO, but also the Rocket Droids from the Malevolance Arc! *7753 Pirate Tank* Cool features, and who knew we'd be seeing so much of Hondo in the show, his minifig is probably reall y expensive because of how beloved a character he is in Star Wars animation. *7752 Count Dooku's Solar Sailer* Obviously it would be cooler if it had the sail, but it's still just neat to have such a unique ship appear in LEGO form. *8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack* I'm probably committing some horrible sin to Clone Wars fans by not having this in the actual list, let alone not even being the top spot, but for me, this was just a battle pack to get because I was getting every battle pack at the time. The double seated walker is not necessary, it could have just been an AT-RT. And sure, if you want a lot of Phase I clones, it's a good army builder, but just about every Clone Wars set with clones came with at least one extra to be on the battlefield instead of in a ship, so I only needed the one. The superior Phase I Clone Battle Pack to me is 2011's 7913 Clone Trooper Battle Pack because there were ARF troopers for the Walker and the AT-RT from the Turbo Tank, plenty of Orange for the 212th with the Bomb Squad guys, and Horn Company for Eeth Coth in the Republic Frigate, and let's not forget that phenomenal BARC Speeder that was more to scale with the minifigs. Top Spot time! *1. 8038 The Battle of Endor* You could not have asked for a better 10th Anniversary set. It's got a few familiar things from past sets, but the centerpiece is totally new with the Shield Generator Bunker. There's fun play functions like opening it up further, spring launched functions to have it explode, plenty of figures to battle for control, and recreate some of the most famous scenes. You can have Paploo steal one of the speederbikes. You can have the Ewoks catapult rocks as the AT-ST. You can have Chewbacca take over the AT-ST. An Ewok can drop rocks on the Imperial forces below. You have R2, Han, and Leia to break into the bunker. You have Rebel forces to ambush the Imperial troops. There's so much you can do! And speaking of those minifigs, nearly all of them were new, and I even got a slight misprint that gave me R2-D2's head on a Silver dome when the same print was currently being used on Light Bluish Gray, meaning somehow the domes used for the Clone Wars version of R2 from the Y-Wing set that year (8037 Anakin's Y-wing Starfighter) made it into the Saga printing machine, making him look even better. That's now standard procedure, but it's with Dark Blue, and while that may be more accurate, I prefer the lighter regular Blue. This set may be 100 pieces shy of a near perfect price per piece ratio, but it was absolutely worth it, best set of 2009 hand down.
