Honestly, Powerup Puff would have been way better if Blossom hadn’t gotten her Green Lantern power. Not just because the power itself is underwhelming, but also because it would have shown that even without her power, Blossom would still have something to bring to the team. More specifically, she’s still a leader without her powers, and can think of strategies. Other than that, it was better than I initially gave it credit for.

And that's why the PPG reboot doesn't work on its own: I can't see it as its own thing, just a zombified extension of a 20 year old franchise made to sell toys to kids who haven't seen the original show, as hard as it tries to.

The more I see the girls going to their school, the more bothered by it I get. Remember in the old show when the girls were the same size as the other kids in their kinder garden? Note: Donny's Debut Episode was Quoted as "An Allegory for being Trans"
@Light-ro5bp6 жыл бұрын
Really? In what way?
@animelover-yo9rr6 жыл бұрын
John Connor Going off of what Shadow was describing, the Trans color flags at the end, the fact that Donny wants a "horn"( in a way saying a trans-man would want a penis, which is not true for all cases) and Shadow didn't mention this one but multiple times in the episode, Blossom and Buttercup try and guess what "type of horse" Donny is(they use filly and colt which are female and male horses, which offends Donny) Also Professor is seen as an allegory for doctors who try and warn their trans patients as much as possible that it is permanent to be trans and you can't turn back, for lack of a better term, once you have had the surgery. However the ending is a little shaky with this allegory cause Donny being a "unicorn" all along isn't really realistic in a trans-man/woman's life. I guess the whole thing with saying to transgender people that they are their identified gender all along is a nice thought but it's NOT that easy for many and all of the bullcrap they had prior in the episode just mixes this message around. Also Donny being such an offended, drama queen, snowflake, tumblr stereotype just ruins anything "good" they wanted to show about this community. Now I know Donny definitely doesn't speak for the Trans community but if you are trying to show this to kids, as someone who works with kids, I can totally tell you that they generalise EVERYTHING! This is an instance, in my opinion, when a show tries too hard to pander and falls flat on it's face. Starting off slowly like showing same-sex couples in a show would be a lot better because it is starting to be warmed up on(just a little) now. Hopefully the same will be said for all of the LGBT community but baby steps need to be taken. Heck there are still some people who think that interracial straight couples are wrong! XD Sorry for the essay I just wrote lol. But I just wanted to explain this for anyone who were wondering and needed more elaboration. Hope this helped! :)

This is tiny, but yu-gi-oh wasn't originally product driven. The manga and anime came before the card game, though over time it may have become a glorified ad. That's why they were so vague and inconsistent with the rules of the game in the first season, as well as having a lot of odd features that only popped up when it was convenient, such as type effectiveness.

Honestly, I was a little different when I was a kid, but also somewhat similar. When it came to what toys I asked for, I was always excited to get toys that were from my favorite shows. However, I didn't want them just because I saw them on TV. I wanted them because of how much I loved that show, and wanted to create my own stories with them. If I didn't like a show, then I pretty much wanted nothing to do with them, and all of the shows I loved as a kid are still enjoyable to me as an adult.

I know this is like. Really late, but looking back. It feels like putting Wrinklegruff Gals on this list was cheating. Mainly because it had no chance of ever being that good to begin with? Bullying centric episodes of even good series almost always fall flat. In ppg standards, it was subpar, but in the context of a bullying episode, it was essentially on par with a lot of them, it was average on that front. I'm saying this because, again, bullying centric episodes tend to fail quite frequently despite being popular so I tend to put those in a separate category since it almost always tends to be subpar compared to the rest of the series. Take for example, the mlp version of it. It oddly enough has enough similarities that it should be compared. The biggest problem I'm seeing is that it tries to push the narrative to stop bullying through some means of the main characters (Babs through either running away or through sabotage, PPG through aging up or by giving shit away) but at the same time, it doesn't exactly work because its always missing the other aspects to me. Like. Where were the adults? I think that aspect was the real problem here, not even gifting things away. In both series, they're in places where adults should be, but they aren't conveniently there. Even if the narrative pushed "always talk to adults" or something like MLP tried, it always falls flat because, again, it's the implication that no adults seemed to step forward before when you need em to, so why would suddenly telling one matter? I mean, in the PPG, they were in the school, so they should see teachers left and right, and in the MLP version, they were in several places that their siblings/other adults couldve seen them and helped them. They just did absolutely nothing. Sorry for the tangent though :/
@whythehecknot50383 жыл бұрын
fair, but i think both episodes should be equally shunned. plus this doesnt make extra sense bcs they are the saviors of the town, the kids are old enough to know and respect that

I think it's been shown far enough that HSH was fucked over by the higher-ups trying to hard to ride that sweet Steven Universe train and missing the platform COMPLETELY. I don't blame the original writer AT ALL for what happened because they have come out time and time again stating the story was just meant to be something familiar to PPG territory and that's a silly battle with a monster, friend is made the end. That's it. It's simple but done in the right hands and without the hammering, this could have been a sweet (pardon the pun) episode and Donnie himself could have been salvaged had they just written him better. Hell, he could have been better if he were just a silent character and Bubbles used her animal speaking abilities to find out that he thought he was a unicorn and thinking that if she turned him into one, he would get HIS wish. It's more executive meddling that brought upon the mess we ultimately got and one of the reasons why I dislike how the show is being managed in terms of writing and just how low they think their audience is. HSH is the highest definition of PANDERING to a current demo, one that when time passes may not be there or even understand what's going on when something else comes along ten years from now. I'm not one to argue this because I feel that it limits writers on what they can and can not do but this really is one of the reasons we have people who say 'If you're not transgender (or whatever demo you want to put in) then don't write it' THIS is why we have people saying things like that. Yes, its incredibly stupid but if THIS were the episode handed to you and you, as someone who is transgender, were told that you HAD to like it because it 'represented' you, some people would be pissed and a lot of people were because it was insulting. It wasn't even handled well as a metaphor or a joke. It was just insultingly bad and a testament that the heads of this show care more about getting rewards for 'catering' to people than actually putting forth and effort in making decent episodes regardless if they yammer on about whatever is being talked about currently. Then again, this is what you get when you HIRE people who only care about that or give them so much power they shut down writers who do just want to make enjoyable things, lessons or not. As for Wrinkle Gruff, the issue wasn't so much bullying but WHO the kids were bullying once the Girls aged up. They were no longer KIDS when the other kids were picking on them but rather old ladies with the mentalities of grandmothers. That's where the absurdity of it came from because in the end, if the kids had made fun of elderly people THEY would come off looking like assholes. The whole 'joke' about the girls being old women was that they were old but they weren't being picked on anymore because anything they did had seniority over all the other kids around them. The kids listened to them because they were adults and treated them like their grandkids hence why they stopped when the girls gave them candy and sweaters. It wasn't the equivalent of a kid handing over their lunch money. It was the equivalent of a kid being handed a gift from their GRANDPARENTS. This is why it doesn't work as a moral episode and one of the reasons why I never saw it was a moral episode, at least when it comes to bullying. The whole problem came from the girls wanting to be older for the wrong reasons and their lesson was that they had to learn how to grow up like everyone else and not RUSH IT otherwise....yeah, OLD. The whole bullying plot therefor becomes wasted because that's not the central focus of the story; wanting to be older is. If they wanted to talk about bullying, they would have had the girls face the trouble without having them advanced in age or have the bullying issue be based around something else. The girls being made fun of? No, that doesn't make sense because they're heroes of the town and everyone knows them. Hell, can you even argue they look THAT much like babies anyway, especially with the mixed array of shitty looking kids in the school anyway? Why not just have them go to school and deal with a person who doesn't see them as a hero who later becomes a reoccurring antagonist? Or I don't know, how about a lesson where the girls learn that while combating bullying is good, don't let others manipulate you into thinking that anyone who looks like a particular bully is EXACTLY like the bully or that the bully can't change? A sort o red-herring thing when the girls find a kid being bullied by a weak-tier bully but in the end, the kid that was being bully turns into the bully themselves by exploiting the power puff girls powers. When the call them out on this, the new bully doesn't even listen and doesn't learn their lesson while the kid who was originally the bully BEFORE DOES and winds up being friends with the girls because they were at least open enough to see what they were doing and learn from the girls and their own mistakes. Or are all bullying stories going to go down the same one-road street?

Still, it bothers me that the bullying thing is never addressed again in the episode and no solution is offered. I mean, now that the girls became younger at the end of the episode those kids will go back to bullying them, which still makes no sense considering that the girls have SUPER POWERS. Seriously, these kids should know who the Powerpuff girls are and should have at some point seen them flying and using their powers. If I've met someone with super powers the last thing I would do is bully them.

I think that's because bullying as a whole was never the main intention of the episode but rather 'AREN'T OLD PEOPLE FUNNY. LAUGH.' and 'YOU WANT TO BE OLD? NOW YOU'RE OLD.' It wasn't so much as a bullying episode as it was an episode (one of two mind you) where the whole joke is centered around making fun of things that old people supposidly do. That's....basically it. And as a whole, the whole set up of the girls being bullied was the most pathetic attempt at trying to 'talk' about an issue at all, mainly because in order to even make it seem like the girls could be targets they had to depower them and- OH WAIT. And we already have a good bully characters for the girls anyway that already goes to the school; PRINCESS. And she has the perfect set up as to why she would bully them given she has the money, the means, and the equipment to actually face them and make their lives miserable. The 'mean girls' they tried to present in the school as the bullies for the girls were weak but I blame that shit characterization on a group of people who can't write. All they did was throw in the lamest retreads of mean girls and then have the girls cave into them IN A SECOND. WOW. Just.....WOW, writers. It was bad enough that the girls are nerfed in powers but their nerfed in esteem as well, all for the sake of a shitty old-people's story line. I don't know but I think people have gotten SUPER LAZY with bully-centric episodes because they know all the basics on how to get people's attention with it (say the word bully as many times as you can, make the bully themselves just as stereotypical as you can, ect) but there are very few people who can actually create a story that offers that solution as well as showcase a scenario in which would make people think that not all bullying scenarios are the same and have the same 'solution' or ending. I hate bring MLP into this convo because it's been done so many times but remember One Bad Apple (or was it Seed? Correct me please)? I LIKED that episode because it showed a scenario very few bullying shows EVER mention (or want to talk about) and that is WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN A BULLYING VICTIM BECOMES A BULLY THEMSELVES? I know a lot of people hate that episode because they didn't think Bab's got 'punished enough' but they seemed to miss the bigger picture that was right in their face; she became a bully to AVOID being a bully herself and the other girls trying to get revenge on her not only wasn't going to make anything she had done in the right but it was going to nearly fucking KILL HER. NO ONE in the episode was in the right in that situation; not Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, not Babs, and not the Cutie Mark Crusaders. ALL of them were wrong but Babs did the right thing in realizing she knew what she did was wrong and cut her associations with DT and SS. And the CMC did the right thing when they saw what danger they were going to do all for the sake of 'getting revenge'. And what happened later on in the series? Diamond Tiara actually developed and shows she's not a 'mean girl' stereotype EITHER. The lesson in OBA/S was YES. JUST TELL. TELL ANYONE. Even if the first person doesn't believe you, TELL SOMEONE ELSE. Don't be scared out of telling someone what is going on. And don't seek shitty revenge on someone because you could wind up killing them or getting yourself in danger. What they did WASN'T defense. It was straight up bodily harm that was going to wind up worse had they not stepped in and saved Babs at the last second. And yet people still didn't think that was enough and wanted to see Babs getting brutally punished despite the lesson of the episode already explaining what that would cause but oh well. But getting on the tl;dr line, I think what most people, especially shit writers, don't seem to grasp on bullying in general is that while everyone has their story to tell, not all their stories are the same and expecting people to just attach themselves to the same shit-tier mean-girl esque piece of shit bullying episode where they just drop the word a few hundred times doesn't make a good lesson or story but HEEEEEY. That's all people seem to want now and that's what we will continue to get until someone finally just breaks the mold and offers something new with a little more to say and offer. Until then, enjoy shit like this because it won't stop.

I see. Though one thing I would like to mention is the fact that they probably put the girls in a school just so they could put as many overused school tropes as possible. The election episode, photo day, school bullies, the science fair episode. It's all stuff we've see countless times in other shows and movies.

These write should really watch a Silent voice to get a better idea of how to approach the topic of bullying.

If people think this reboot is bad, they haven't seen the emoji movie or foodfight. Those two pieces of animated media make the reboot look like frozen films. All movies are bad in their own right, having no build up or reason for twists and conclusions that were made to have happened. Especially with the latter I mentioned, it receives praise because people ignore obvious and jarring plot holes, just for the sake of oh look at the pretty visuals, cheesy romance, cliché sisters needing to get along story, musical numbers, and citizens who all pull a 180 for no reason. All these aspects make frozen bad to people who are blind to doing in depth analysis. But all of it's combined are noting compared to the atrocities that are the emoji move and foodfight.

You need to watch TTG. I also think people hate it for the perverted impications.
