The Poppy Wars was beyond amazing! And the Audible is so good. The narrator does an excellent job at infusing her words with so much emotion. You can feel Rin's poison, rage, and her despair. I can't reccomend the audible enough. Especially for those who might now like it as much by reading it.

If you're looking for fantasy kinda poetic books like The Starless Sea I strongly recommend This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amar El-Mohtar. Also The Poppy War is soooo good and the sequel The Dragon Republic is also amazing. The last one is definitly my most expected book of this year together with Addie Laurie.

No one ever, EVER talks about The City of Dreaming Books or any of Walter Moers's other awesome stories. He is hands down my favorite German author, except for maybe Cornelia Funke. Thanks for giving him a shout out!! I hope other people give his books a chance. They are so whimsical and funny; kind of like Douglas Adams without the space travel. I have read every book of his that has been translated into English and loved them all so much.

I am currently reading Shorefall (after having devoured Foundryside) and I am loving it! The characters, the plots and the story are just so good! I read but did not finish The Poppy Wars right when it came out. I think both the switch between the first and second part of the book and the level of grim dark were too much for me at the time (I mean... Some scenes are stomach turning) but you'rz making me reconsider. I might pick it up and finish it.

I'm really torn on the Poppy War... on the one hand, it was so well-written and just riveting to read. On the other hand (and I feel like kind of a snob for saying this), it really misrepresented Central Asian spirituality and shamanism via its magic system... and since politically China has repressed Central Asia cultures for years, it really bothered me that shamanistic magic was interpreted in such a reductionist way and yet is what is ultimately going to give Rin her power. I haven't read the second one though, I'm not sure if I will.
@hiekfbisnl27724 жыл бұрын
I know this has nothing to do with what you wrote (other than it being about the same book) but since you've read it, is there a romance in The Poppy War? I haven't heard in any reviews whether there is one or not. Thanks!
@libby21624 жыл бұрын
@@hiekfbisnl2772 There are some little hints that are suggestive of romance at certain points, but in general no, there isn't a main romance.

Mac I looked it up and from what I understand chain of gold is about the kid of the main couple from a previous shadow hunter series so I’m assuming the book has a lot of references to the previous series that we wouldn’t understand
@EzrelZaBu4 жыл бұрын
I haven't read the entire Shadowhunter series, neither chain of gold but, if I can tell you something is that this books (the last hours trilogy, chain of gold) is set 20 years after the events of The Infernal Devices trilogy, so I do think will have many references.
