God I loved Johnny mnemonic. Taped it on VHS and watched it over and over as a teen. While obsessing over Shadowrun Second Edition. Creating the perfect street Sam.. Ah, good times.

A lot of people give that movie a ration of crap, but it really is one of my favorites. I could watch it over and over.

Love it! Akira, Demon City Sinjuku, and Wicked City are also on my go to list for Cyberpunk/Shadowrun.

Good choices! I might do an animated list some day if enough people give a shit about this list.

Ghost in a Shell (Both Anime and Liveaction Movies) is definitely missing on your list :)

I didn't include the anime because, well, I didn't include any animated films. I've seen the LA version, and I liked it, but it just didn't inspire me like the movies on the list. Maybe a top 10 (or part two) is in order some day.

1992 nemesis is not great but it is a good b movie time that leans hard into the genre. Almost like an rpg session. Something worth tossing in the mix of ppl haven't seen for cyberpunk vibes and inspiration.

The Cyberpunk 2020 and Red corebooks also have recomended reading and film lists. Some of my netrunner favorites: _Hackers_ (not as much futuristic body-aug cyberpunk, but has many [cyber and punk] elements, _WarGames_ (especially for running a game with a lot of system interaction or AIs), _Sneakers, The KGB the Computer and Me_ (a documentary about Cliff Stoll's adventures which are also covered in his book _Cuckoo's Egg,_ where an accounting error on a university system leads to the unraveling of an early cybercrime ring), Jason Scott's Bulletin Board System (BBS) documentary, _Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop_ (if you run low on adventure seeds, imagine a character like Ed is running around somewhere in your game-world 🤭), _The Animatrix, Scanner Darkly_ (if the game'll have heavy surveillance elements. Another PKD book film adaptation. I enjoy reading the books, and most sci-fi has not been turned into films: Gibson, Dick, Sterling, Stephenson, Rucker, Herbert, Asimov, Verne, Wells, et al)

Robocop is one of the greatest movies ever made, and I will die on that hill if needs be.

A bit late to the party, but the movie s and manga that got me into cyberpunk are Bladerunner(obviously) , Akira, Ghost in the shell(anime), and Battle Angel Alita (manga). Oh and Judge dredd /Dredd. I just discovered the cyberpunk ttrpg scene and am trying to get my dnd friends to let me run a shadowrun adventure for a change of scenery

All great movies!! I've watched all of them excessively with the exception of Death Machine which I've never seen. I will correct that very soon :)

A Scanner Darkly gives me ideas in regards to daily life of normal everyday drug addicts in a cyberpunk setting. Granted the move isn't really cyberpunk, but it is close. Plus it has Keanu Reeves, Woody Harrelson, and RDJ, in one movie. What's not to love.

Inception (2010), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Anon (2018), Tenet (2020) Not Cyberpunk, but great Shadowrun inspiration IMO: The Accountant (2016), Hard Boiled (1992), Atomic Blonde (2017), The Town (2010)

Robocop is insanely good. I grew up on it. Satirical cyberpunk at its best. I enjoyed the new version but only because I refuse to compare the two.

The running man. Dredd. Both the Stallone and Karl Urban versions are great for their own reasons.
