I really appreciate this content, Devlin. I still haven’t begun my own learning/ training journey towards becoming an Instructional Designer, primarily because I don’t yet have the funds to take any courses and I’m just now looking for an entry level job to hold me over until I attain my career goal. Every time I watch one of your videos or receive your insightful emails, I am more excited to get started. I really hope to be enrolled in the boot camp before the end of this year! Thanks for all of the amazing content that you and your team produce and share for free!

OMg, this was so good. Thank you so much for making this video. I'm coming to ID from filmmaking and I'm not inspired to continue in the field when I see sloppy drag and drop videos from entrepreneurs who treat ID like a get rich quick scheme. This is the opposite of that, it reminds me why this field is so interesting and what can be accomplished. Thank you!

I just went through CPR training, and it was exciting to look at the training through the ID lens. I appreciate the real-world scenarios that the example in the video demonstrated and the pressure that is accompanied by these situations. I love that it included the pressure aspect! High stakes and pressure can affect performance, so when someone has more of an idea of what to expect, they will perform better. Great, great, great!

Thanks, Devlin for sharing with us these examples. Much appreciated! :) Of the ones shared, I loved Payback the most for both visual (simple and clean) and instructional design. Among the elements that got my attention were the variables and feedback for the writing style.

Thanks, Devlin! Love it when you share great examples! I would love to see you share more collections of superb E Learning projects. Most Instructional Designers keep their portfolio pretty private. These obviously seem to have big budgets and talent behind them. Us lesser mortals are not as fortunate with Vyond and Captivate for our main tools.

Hi Devlin, thanks for sharing these. Just curious to know, how to create such programs? Which software do they use?
@DevlinPeckYT3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Most of these are likely built with custom code, but you can achieve this with popular eLearning authoring tools like Articulate Storyline.
@The_Creative_Workshop3 жыл бұрын
@@DevlinPeckYT I'm just looking at getting into E-Learning and picked up the software. I was surprised that the animation and interactivity is so basic in the software I looked at. Coming from a Flash background, I think many of these could be created in Adobe Animate and published with it's HTML5 output. Especially if they don't need to be SCORM compliant.
@DevlinPeckYT3 жыл бұрын
@@The_Creative_Workshop For sure, good suggestion! The animation capabilities of the industry standard tools like Storyline are definitely limited. If you can leverage your multimedia background to create more immersive, rich experiences, then they will definitely stand out :)

@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane! You can use an animation on each line segment and line it up on the timeline so that they animate in smoothly. That may be the simplest approach :D.

Interesting information about elearning projects. I've been teaching for over 20 years now and am thinking about transitioning into ID. Are these samples typical of the ID industry or do some IDs create more higher order thinking content? The graphics part is my least favourite part of ID.

@acyeti3 жыл бұрын
The gamification here is great! Haji Kamal is really cool. I also really liked the dynamic animations in Payback. I'm curious about what happens when the learner chooses a bad option in Shady Sam. Most learning happens when we make mistakes and learn from them so the feedback for that is important. So, can you tell what software(s) were used to make these activities?
@DevlinPeckYT3 жыл бұрын
Good question! I think that the first 4 experiences are all created with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The final one was likely created with an eLearning authoring tool, but it was in 2010 so I am not sure. And that's also a good question about the bad options in Shady Sam. I completely agree that seeing the consequences of poor choices can help a lot. I will have to do another run through in Shady Sam to see what happens, but this one is definitely different than the usual scenario-based experiences. Since it's not designed for actual loan sharks, it's more of a creative way to give you insight into the shady dealings of these type of loan companies. I imagine that those moments will present themselves whether you answer correctly or incorrectly.
@gilbertwalker98622 жыл бұрын
Tech question for ya Devlin - I've got a html, css, javascript background and am decent at gamification. Should I learn Articulate Storyline (never used it before) given these top examples were probably made with code? Or should I just focus on getting some really slick workflows for my coding skills?
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
Yes, learning Articulate Storyline will be helpful if you want to work in the eLearning space. Many teams prefer that you create the deliverable for them with Storyline so that they can maintain it internally. You can use your coding skills to extend SL projects, though, and take on some higher-value work as a result.
@gilbertwalker98622 жыл бұрын
@@DevlinPeckYT thanks so much bro. Ah I see, so Articulate is kind of the expected tool of the trade, but there might be scope for coding here and there? When you say extend SL you mean with javascript?
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
@@gilbertwalker9862 Yes, exactly. Some of my most profitable projects were using my web dev skills to make stuff happen in Storyline that wouldn't be possible without custom code.
