If there was Emmy awards for hockey card starter videos this one would win. If this existed a couple years ago when I started buying cards again it would have saved me from buying artifacts blasters. Death, Taxes and Ty The Card Guy hitting Vegas.

Amazing video! Every collector would find a ton of value in here, especially if you’re a new collector! Collecting is so much fun and taking some of the tips from this video through your collecting journey will help you have fun, hunt down some awesome cards, and make some great friendships along the way 😀

This might have been the best video I've ever seen on this topic. Loved that you touched on the "gambling" aspect and fomo as I feel it doesn't get talked about much as it should.

Thanks David. Trying to put a lot of thought and effort into these style videos

Some tips I have learned: 1. Don't buy and open packs and boxes. Look for the card you want on the secondary market (eBay, COMC, etc), be patient, and buy when the price is right. I am still waiting for Connor Bedard's Young Gun price to go down even more before I start to buy. 2. Young Guns are indeed popular, but consider for your PC looking for rare variants, such as Silver and Speckled Rainbow foils through ePack or Exclusives, maybe even Outburst Silver, etc. The market is flooded with base Young Guns. 3. O-Pee-Chee Platinum and its numbered variants are a great option for PC cards. The Seismic Gold (numbered out of 50) is very popular.

Very good points here as well. I really don’t touch on buying singles in this vid too much. Thanks for the input. I agree!

Just starting the video, however my number one for collectors is don’t break boxes, just buy singles. However I’m glad some people break or there wouldn’t be any singles for me to buy😂
@PuckRips12 күн бұрын
That’s right. If no one rips packs. There would be no single

Just rip flagship if you got extra cash or SPA, ripping is the funnest part for me but I’m going to prioritize the flagship and SPA instead of buying fluff boxes

While I agree the Ripping is one of my favorite parts, its also been the least return on investment. Targeted online purchases, especially through the e-pack transfer system to avoid $30 dollar per card shipping fees from the States on a $10 dollar card is getting to be more and more attractive here.

I wish i saw this before buying a blaster artifact box..it was my first hockey cards. Nice looking base cards but not alot else , didn't even get a numbered

Yeah such low value in the few and far in between inserts

I'll say buying the occasional blaster box or hanger can sometimes be fun if you go in with low expectations. But if you really want the chance for hits you have to go hobby and do some research on what hobby boxes are the best for you. Cheaper hobby boxes usually means the return or pulls are weaker.
@PuckRips10 күн бұрын
I love when you say “do your research”. I can’t recommend enough for people to do their own research and do what is best for them! 💯💯💯

Good info, don’t buy retail as they are impossible to hit…. Best advice probably don’t get into the hobby unless u willing to lose a lot of money 😂

Thanks for the video. Back into the hobby after many many years. Any good place to buy singles other than ebay? I am on a mission to get an auto card of every person on the wild this year. Mission accomplished accept for MA Fleury. Looking for a low end one in a wild uniform. Doesn't need to be an insert or #'d.

It's an expensive hobby if you value expensive cards. My favourite card was about $4. I've been in on a few breaks but buying singles just seems like so much more of a logical way forward to collect the players and teams I like. Sealed products are such bad value so whether you're opening them yourself or entering breaks over a long period of time, I think you're almost certain to be worse off than if you put the same money into singles you actually want. I would also say hunting rookies is silly.
@PuckRips5 күн бұрын
Buying singles is definitely wayyyyy more cost effective when collecting. But I’m a pack ripping degenerate. Gotta feed the beast lol

Don’t think you’ll make profit in this hobby. Don’t buy loose packs of SPA ever. Don’t sell the farm for any of these post modern YGs, you will find one at your price point in the future. Don’t buy into box breaks, let the breakers die. Once they go away the prices on boxes will come back into the earth realm. I collect all American Born superstars, besides Kaner. He’s a PoS.

I think the reason enjoyed hockey cards so much is it is still a collectors base. More so than money hungry scalpers
