One thing that often doesn't get mentioned is the life long friends you can make via ham radio....even if you only see them once a year at your local hamfest, you always have something in common.

Great video and thanks. My journey found me fortunate enough to join a really good club that first allowed me to get familiar with nets and then to become a net control. I then volunteered to help assemble the beam for new club tower. Fast forward and I am deputy trustee and my Elmer and Trustee is always pushing me for greater technical skills and understanding. I am bringing forward ASL3 and other Internet resources. It is your personal journey. Find the right environment and grow. 73, Bill.

Great video ! Yes the ARRL has great stuff ! I love the books like the ones on grounding and bonding and the antenna hand book and many others. All have articles from fellow hams all around the world. The ARRL supports all radio stuff. 73

Cool video! People often wonder what amateur radio operators do, and I feel like this video sums it up very well. I will probably send this to my friends from now on hahaha

I inherited a Delcom Radio (FCC ID:GW2960AIR) from my father when he passed, Is this a useable/legal radio? Also, it did not come with a charger but it says 12V-600mAH. Can you recommend a charging system that would not damage this seemingly antique radio? The radial dials range from 100-139.9 and there is a switch with 0,25,50,75 positions (kHz). It also has a BNC nut style antenna socket. Any ideas for this radio are appreciated, Thank You.

Hey Brad, I’m sorry… not familiar with that radio.

@@TheSmokinApe This was all I could learn about it: The Delcom Radio, specifically the model with FCC ID GW2960AIR, is primarily an air band handheld transceiver. It is designed for communication within the aviation sector, particularly for use by pilots and air traffic control. This model is known as the Delcom Air 960, which operates in the VHF air band frequency range, making it suitable for aviation communication purposes. The Delcom Air 960 is typically utilized in civilian aviation contexts, such as small aircraft and gliders, as evidenced by its use in a Schweizer 2-33 sailplane2 In summary, the Delcom GW2960AIR is primarily used in civilian aviation for air band communication.

I've been listening in to my local UK HAM traffic for a couple of months. Oh boy...getting a license is a hard sell IMO. It's 4 really old guys having the same conversation over and over again. I was so disappointed. Just make it so you need to apply for an assigned call sign and send a "code of conduct" and leave it at that.

I think many of us have experienced the same thing

The ARRL would need to clean their act up as far as their elections as articulated by KB6NU and take cyber security seriously before I would join. It's my understanding that the ARRL paid one million in ransomware which is nonsense even if covered by insurance.

RST... did you say core? or poor? ahh never mind one in the same, new hams dont get set examples by many ol timers who spend 4 minutes of a Net trying to get call signs and RST off a remote DX, only to give out a f#skin 5-9 or 4x5........ seriously........ if it takes 4 f#sking minutes its clearly a 2 at best more likely a 1.... and the Net controllers should have moved on 3 minutes earlier....
