I haven't played a FF game since VIII, but I still love IV, VI, VII and Tactics, and I even enjoyed Mystic Quest as a kid.

FF7 and MMX4 are the reason I switched from being a nintendo to a playstation kid as well.

I really should try FF14, but I really don't need a new addiction.

I never played 14 due to lack of free time to play a MMORPG, but I fully agree with your other choices. I personally also really enjoyed 3 and 5 for their job system. The best way to play FF3 will be the pixel remaster with the beautiful 16-bits graphics, it look far better than the original Famicom title or the 3D visual of the DS version.

Nice list, Brazzers. I agree that there are no wrong favourites when it comes to FF games. Everyone has a different favourite for a different reason, and I can appreciate your reasons for loving the games you listed here. I need to finish IV, but having played a substantial part of it, I can say that it's surpassed VII as one of my favourite FF games. VI will always be tops for me, for a variety of reasons.

I strongly second a rerelease for FF Tactics

Agreed! I have a feelin it could potentially happen sometime next year. I mean they already brought back Tactics Ogre, Front Mission, Live A Live and Crisis Core so a FF Tactics remaster/port would be a no-brainer at this point.

1. FF6: never surpassed IMO when it comes to character arcs, story and soundtrack 2. FF9: so endlessly charming, fun and lighthearted 3. FF8: not my favorite combat system, but the characters and world just sucked me in

FF7 has never been my favorite like it is for a lot of people, but man...I wish more games used the materia system. Especially the other psone games all tried some kind of "magic tied to character equipment and stats" system but none of them were as good as materia. That and the sphere grid are like the best character progression systems of ANY RPGs.

If you haven't played the FF3 remake on DS, I think that's the definitive way to play the game...yeah it has its own issues, but I love the way they highlight the story in a way I never got into the original.
