Stars Without Number and Worlds Without Number should absolutely be an the list (sure, there is some non-essential extra bonus stuff you get in the paid version, but if D&D basic rules meet the criteria, then so does SWN/WWN). Best sandbox toolkits out there, and good systems, too.

Thanks for introducing me to Tricube adventures. It really reminds me of a streamlined version of Open D6. I have seen that online for free. it would be worth reviewing. I have a minimalist GM kit for gaming, and Tricube works out great if I feel like running a quick solo session sometime.

Not free, but just as low-cost as BFG: WhiteBox:Medieval Adventure Game. A solid and easy and super fast iteration of original D&D. Crazy malleable (obviously), and compatible with just about anything from 1974 to 1999…and easy for ‘beyond’ as well, if ya like.
@03dashk642 жыл бұрын
…I am very confused by 5e basic being included. It’s not the full rules. It’s a quick start. Sure, you can play it, but it is a paired down rule set to get you to buy the complete rules. Seems to contradict your own rules? You say it meets the requirements, but it doesn’t? Unless “complete game” just means it has conflict resolution mechanics. Then, yeah it does. You’re right. But compared to your other suggestions, it is so bare bones. Something like Stars Without Numbers / Godbound / Worlds Without Numbers would fit the bill so much better But the rest of your suggestions are great! Fate is one of my favorite systems ever created.

I immediately thought the same thing. Like no SRDs no QuickStarts, then literally pulls up a QuickStart ruleset.

I was hopping for Ironsworn as a mention, as the main game does follow his rules (its supplement Delve and space setting sequel Starforged is not free) and can be played either solo, 1 player and GM, or a typical party. If you haven’t heard of it, look it up.

Basic is not a full game any more than a quickstart is. There are a lot of free to play games out there that aren't D&D derivatives or creations of your acquaintances. Talislanta's entire library of books are free; Open Legend is free; Ironsworn is free, and on and on ad nauseum. I feel like you didn't give much effort to making your list, unless it was a way to promote your friend's work? You are capable of doing better than this. (This is intended to be constructive criticism, I'm not bashing you). Thanks for the video.

This comment sucks if you're referring to basic. Maybe tricube tales that he referenced. On top of the core rulebook for BF, every single module, class, item and every other supplement is FREE and WORKS. If you meant tricube and not basic than I apologize. But otherwise this comment sucks and you're just mad that he didn't refer to a game that YOUR friends made.
@truant2827 Жыл бұрын
And you're just subjectively saying that he's low effort and picked a bunch of games of friends that he's friends with. Constructive example "I feel like tricube technically isn't free and there may have been some bias when picking that one. It seems more like a thin supplement to other games that I wouldn't have put in here".

I take serious umbrage with you including 5e basic rules as a full game. It's a glorified quickstart. You don't even get subclasses, which is one of 5e's main systems of character building. Putting aside all the supplemental content, you don't even get half the PHB options. It's a tool for people to get started (quickly, you could say) with 5e. You said you weren't going to include quickstarts because "It's not the full game, it's a sampling of the game you can get for free". Like I'm sorry but if you don't think the 5e basic rules falls under that then I really don't know what to tell you. It also just sucks that you're glossing over a ton of smaller games in favor of 5e, like it doesn't get plenty of attention already.
