Just got the Napoleon Oakville with reflective panels and gunmetal accent trim. Love it. Agree it is a great value for what you get. I replaced a 30 year old Napoleon wood insert that was still going....just wanted the convenience of gas to get the fire going....

The heat n glo escape is actually the same insert as the Quadrafire firebrick that you once so highly praised. Fyi, the heat n glo doesn't seem to be discontinued? Does it not rank so highly anymore?

In an older video, you had mentioned that one fireplace did really well during a power outage because of the battery. How do these current models do? Is this something to factor in if we are getting a gas insert so that we will still have heat when our heat pumps don't work. Our current insert needs replacing, and it never seemed to work during power outages. I need to make sure that the new one I choose will be good in this sense. I am also interested if you can suggest your favorite model for largest viewing area, but still without losing that ability to lower the flame that you discuss here.

how does the heat get out of the insert? do they exhaust up the chimney or do you have to install a tube?

Our 4 main fireplace stores here don't care any Ortal Wilderness Series...one store does and does not have any on display unfortunately. Our big concern is that the installers won't really know the ins and outs of making the glowing embers where the fire comes out of the logs, won't bring out the full potential of that look...when they set this up in our home. **This is the whole reason we are wanting this Ortal Wilderness Series. It seems like since its new technology (and hardly ANYBODY carries them in San Diego!) that the installer will goof it up. Is that part of the display (fire thru logs) goof-proof, so to speak? Any advice is appreciated. thank you!

IMO The #1 Gas insert should have the new style burners. The new infused flames burners look a lot more like a real fire. It doesn't makes sense that the #1 unit is sporting dated technology.
