My Wife's Grandfather, who lived to his 90's, played the bones, yes, literally animal rib and jaw bones. Had been doing since the 1950's and won a bunch of contests in Philadelphia. Had no clue that was "a thing" anyone ever did. Seeing him light up as he played us "When the Saints Go Marching In" always warmed my heart.

Picked up an Ukulele (my first ever instrument ever) this afternoon - will let you know how it goes. Thank you for your video!

I'm weird, I have a habit of getting really good at a creative outlet, and trying to find another one before I've mastered the first one. I did it with art, and now I'm ending up doing it with music. Wanting to learn every rock instrument I can so I have something to do when I don't want to draw.

I enjoyed this video very much. As luck would have it, I have an electric bass guitar sitting right next to me--one that I bought some 56 years ago. I have about a couple dozen other instruments in the house and a couple in a storage unit (unfortunately, the latter includes my double bass, after which I also bought the electric one). Originally I started on clarinet, then added bass clarinet, then the double bass, etc....until now when I have Fender Stratocaster (no longer wanted by my nephew who quit it too soon), 2 trombones, a trumpet, 3 cornets, an alto horn, a euphonium, a baritone, a French horn, a mellophone, 2 tubas, an alto sax (needs work), a flute, an oboe, three clarinets plus a "contra-alto" clarinet, a suona, and a hulusi (gourd flute), and "somewhere" a mandolin--and I play most of these, especially the brass, every day. Most of these were obtained in just the past three years, starting at age 68. My girlfriend wanted to start playing music, first with guitar so I brought her the Stratocaster but she decided it was too heavy so I took it back, then she was interested in harmonica so I bought her one--but I doubt she even knows where it is right now. I noticed that when I got the double bass, and then the bass guitar, I had a lot of new opportunities using one, or both, of these, depending upon the occasion. Not surprisingly, I read bass clef for the bass guitar, just as I do for the double bass.

Ukulele, guitar and bass have many similarities, if you learn one, you should be able to get around the others without too much trouble. I like my guitars but I often keep a guitalele close by, it's about the size of an ukulele, but adds a D string and a low A, so it plays very much like a guitar with a capo on the 5th fret, or a uke with 2 extra strings, another instrument I think has to be mentioned is the piano/keyboard, you can get them at a reasonable beginner price, perhaps second hand, it is versatile, can do any genre, it is fun to play and it is great for composing! I would recommend all musicians at least have one, even if it's not their primary instrument, but really, if you really like an instrument, give it a go! Some may be harder than others, but there is a lot of overlap once you start learning more about music.

for me the most easy to learn is the jaw harp I just bought it as a joke and now I love it and I play it every day
@terrenceoday94933 жыл бұрын
Strange how he ignores an instrument far easier to learn and play than guitar, bass, and ukulele. That instrument is the Lyre. More strings, but very straightforward. No complicated chord shapes to learn and play. No having to memorize an entire fretboard. For the Lyre, just pluck the strings.
@terrenceoday94933 жыл бұрын
@NK I've been playing the Bodhran (Celtic Frame Drum), Frame Drum, and Tambourine for years now. An entire drumset definitely isn't for me. I love the wide variety of instruments available so people can find what they can play and enjoy.

Dave, I'm turning 40 in the new year, and while I'm not quite at mid-life crisis stage, a regret I always had was not learning an instrument. My childhood memories of failure flood back, as I bombed both the recorder and then acoustic guitar in 5th grade music class. With that all said, I'm torn between bass and drums. The latter ALWAYS stuck out to me when listening to any songs, guys like Phil Collins and Neil Peart jumping out at me. However, I have a Wife and two kids and neighbors, lol, so I don't think I could pull off drums.

So as a personnwho plays a few instruments and goes toa rockschool its not that easy first of all all instruments are hard af to play second instruments can cost up to thousands it is not that easy plus why woukd you waist like 50 bucks for something that is going to break in the first year and most people who learn bytyemself quit and there is a bigger chance of u quiting while self etaching that witha teacher (srry for my grammar english is not my first language)
