michael bass it sure is. When I was in my 20’s, I was still in that overhyped, overplaying, full of energy mode from playing covers of fusion & hard rock. My mentor suggested I audition for some country gigs. Wow, I learned real quick what I was doing and how to appreciate simplicity. I ended up playing a few gigs and it inspired me to rethink my whole approach to the bass.

I've been a fan of Lee's since about 1971 when I got my first 2 James Taylor albums (Sweet Baby James and Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. ), but when In the pocket came out, Mexico in particular, I learned to listen to James' music focusing on Lee's bass part. it was always complimentary, supporting the rune, but would often be a counter melody, perfectly mixed, and often on a path of its own. Almost comical at times seeing James sing a very mellow tune, but at times Lee ripping off some otherwise almost unnoticeable riffs.

You can't really blame YT, if they flaunt the copyright laws they get sued and that doesn't help any of us. But I entirely agree, the way it works lacks any sort of fairness or humanity. I wish the bosses in the music 'industry' would come to the party and see how they crush some creators spirits with their rigid 'ownership' of peoples brilliance. All they seem to do is take and take with no concept of patronage; farming humans basically.

One of my favorite LS basslines is In the Air Tonight. And it's because not only does it contrast hugely from the verse to the "kicked in" chorus, but the bassline is really unexpected. Literally every time I've ever heard a band cover it, the bassist just plays i, VII, VI, VII in the chorus instead of the actual line! It's irritating because the line is so groovy and a real integral part of the song. And yet, it gets very little love. And while I am complaining about how people play the song.... I hear people mess it up all the time by playing i, VII, VI, VII in the verse. Ugh! No. It's i, v/i, iv/i, III/i
