I recently ordered an XLT as well. I really like the looks of the new Ranger much more than the previous model. Plus I liked being able to get the sand stone interior over all black. I think black sucks up all of the interior light and shows every spec of dust and hair you get on it. I ordered mine in velocity blue and the chrome package as I can't stand the look of solid black or dark colored rims. The only thing I don't like about the Ranger is no sunroof option and no rear vents. But I suppose the large front vents make up for that and I probably won't have back seat passengers that often.

I drove a new XLT yesterday equipped much like the truck you reviewed. I was VERY impressed with it. One thing you didn’t mention is that it has 48.2” between the rear wheel wells in the bed. That means this midsize pickup is 4x8-friendly. You can lay plywood flat on the bed floor. You can’t do that with a Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado or a Canyon. This will make contractors very happy. I do wish it offered the fulltime 4WD found on the Raptor however, and the rear seat had a split-fold feature.

I do like this new Ranger and I do like the appearance package on this model with the black door handles and mirrors. You're right Tim, perhaps we are being picky but it is 2024. So here are my complaints: At this price point you have to have rear vents for the A/C. Yes, on those really brutally hot days in the summer, especially in some parts of the country, they do make a difference. The configuration and the folding/stowage of the rear seats isn't the best. Why not make it a 60/40 split? The Ridgeline takes well deserved hate in some areas but the rear seat versatility, is one area where Honda has everyone else beat with their "Magic" seat design. Who doesn't want to be able to stow the rear seat one handed? When you use one these vehicles as an actual daily driver, all these "Little" things start to matter.

The Rangers in Australia and SA have rear vents. With it being a global truck for Ford, one would think they would have it for the NA market. It's not a deal breaker with my ordered Raptor but if it's standard for the rest of the world, then shouldn't be an issue to make it standard here, especially just adding the actual parts to put in during production in Michigan.

It is amusing to me that none of the reviewers who mention the keyed ignition know anyone who has driven away from home without their vehicle fob in their pocket, purse, whatever. My wife has had one friend and one customer who ended up stranded when she made the mistake of not actually having the fob secured. One customer drove away from our store having left her purse on the roof and lucked out that my wife saw her purse fall off the car. But because she had no key to enable her ignition she ended up stuck at her next stop with no way to start her vehicle and no cell phone. It got straightened out, lucky for her, but served as a serious reminder that there is a potential issue with having a keyless ignition. Like electric windows with no manual crank, super convenient until one fails in the down position. So technology is great but sometimes it creates new problems that never existed before.

IMO the Ranger is best in class. Unlike allot of stuff Ford makes the trucks at the wayne plant are pretty good. This new one is a bit wider with longer wheelbase. This means a usable back seat unlike the rest of the competition. And the back seat now folds all the way down which was a flaw of the original design. The new Tacomas are wildly overpriced. Think tons of hard plastics and it not as capable as this one with a back seat that is completely useless for adults. The Ranger will tow more. Basically a low trim SR5 cost as much as a this mid trim XLT. Toyota as lost their minds. The GM twins have too many electrical problems for my taste. I don't trust that oem with my money.

It was built and going into transit at the time I locked it in. I am 100% with you push button start should be standard at this point. That grab handle for the left side I am sure exist, probably have to order it from an Australia ford dealer. I am betting the left side gets the grab handle on a right hand drive model . The original order had many, many features added with an MSRP of $50k. Fortunately, my '22 Ranger had a clear title so I had a big down payment. Anyway, I absolutely love this truck but there's a couple of things I can't solve; I can't get the Auto High Beam to function (apparently you have to have the headlights and certain forward pushes on the turn signal stick and I haven't found the magic combination yet) and I have no idea how to turn on the bed lighting. It appears there's no way to turn on the bed lighting from inside the bed whereas, on my '22 Ranger Lariat, I could just touch a corner light from inside the bed when needed and all four lights would turn on.

Agree with you 100++ on the things you don't like. Piano black is a nightmare to keep looking good. Also the noise in the ranger is wearing on a longer drive. Everything you asked to be fixed if combined would not add more than $200 to the truck. The problem is the government no longer cracks down on big companies for collusion. Ford, Gm, Ram all collude to keep prices high. In the 70’s of 80’s the government would have shut them down and heads would have rolled. Now these massive companies pump hundred of millions into campaigns and the current power base in Washington is allowing the massively high priceing so that it helps fund the massive losses in EV mandate. $25,000 dollars on every full-size SUV, Pickup is a direct offset of EV losses. In addition the feds subsidize the manufacturing and development cost through increased taxation (to the manufacturer) on non ev’s and another $20000 in direct tax subsidies per EV. All told every Ford Lightning should cost nearly $150,000 to buyers. Instead their price is lowered by directly, indirectly taxing non ev buyers. The only exception to this in the US is Tesla. Tesla has been mostly self funded and when it has borrowed money from the EV loan program offered by the Biden administration, it paid off the loans Ina few short years or even less. So… like the Harvard educated super rich Presidnet of Ford keeps telling all of us… we are going to have to buy smaller less capable vehicles and get use to the overall high cost of relying solely on electricity as the source of power for homes, manufacturing and transportation. The exception to this will be commercial heavy hauling and farm and manufacturing. I'm nearing retirement but since the current administration took office, 30% - 40% of my retirement useful purchasing power has been wiped out with inflation. In addition the cost to purchase a full size of a well negotiated purchase of a Pickup (I own a construction company) has gone from $75,000 (F-350 platinum) to $93,000! Food has nearly doubled and at my age, healthcare has nearly doubled. But the biggest increase is the cost of purchasing and owning a home. In 2018, the average price of the homes we build were $790,000 plus the land, usually totled $950,000. Today the exact same homes cost $1,900,000. The most recent 1/2 acre lots on our area cost $390,000 - $650,000. 10 years ago I rarely paid more than $140,000 for a 3/4 acre lot. Folks we better wake up. Government over spending, its massive beurocracy and its massive waste is wiping the nations middle class.

The easiest way to narrow down your choices is to figure out what you must have and what you hate. If you will be towing, then how much weight do you need to tow? Are you going offroad 60-90% of the time or not at all? I don't drive through mud or climb over rocks with my truck, so I wanted a 2WD. Last year, I found a 2016 GMC Canyon 2WD extended cab with a long box and a manual transmission. The price was good because most people want a crew cab 4x4 with an automatic transmission.

Same goes for the upper-glovebox compartment. Only on Lariat and Raptor... not even an add-on option for XL and XLT. Something so basic, not even an option. A good common sense review. Overall, it seems like a good everyday truck but more geared for a working lifestyle for hauling people or stuff. I agree with the handle locations. You can use your left hand for the overhead handles but it just doesn't feel natural.

I still like the Nissan frontier better it is naturally aspirated and will be easier to work on and won’t have to worry about a turbo failing or having oil blow by at 100k

Actually the 2.3 is easy to work on and mod because of all the room in the bay.

I just tried the new tacoma out and it's pretty nice, rides like a cloud decent power . Going to try the ranger out and see which I like better. Price wise ranger is slightly lower.

@@wickedmainah950 Did you get a chance to compare the Ranger to the Tacoma?
@wickedmainah9506 ай бұрын
@kylecaudle4771 I did test drive both and I bought a ranger xlt sport. Was similarly equipped to the trd off rd. About 9g less. Tacoma definitely rode a little more plush but interior was tight. Only an extended cab compared to the crew on the ranger. I preferred the handling and interior on the ranger. The ranger felt stronger and hauls more weight. Both nice trucks, depending on what you want it for. The Toyota probably a little more capable off rd , not as good for hauling toys. Didn't like infotainment screen location on the Toyota either, like a TV stuck on the dash.

The Ranger is one of Fords best trucks as far as reliability. Look it up. All the 2.7 eco and 3.0 engines blowing up were not suffered by the 2.3 eco here. This is probably the best build truck Ford makes. And the rest of the center stack etc... has been tested overseas for over a year. I'm pretty sure this will be a good truck on day one. Just like the 2019 was since that truck also was build overseas since 2012.

That was a great shot of the Ranger driving up the dirt road. How did you do that? Remote on the tripod? I agree that they should've added more grab handles. It's not like they are that expensive. Thank you, Ford, for thinking about the payload. I swear it seems like that is forgotten about when it comes to designing and engineering light duty pickups these days.

It seems like a great truck, but I would give it 3 years for them to work the small things out.

Well it’s been out for one year already, so not much longer!

Still has the same 2.3 ecoboost 10 speed and this same global truck has been in production overseas for over a year. Even the 2019 Ranger was a pretty reliable truck with few recalls because the same truck was made overseas since 2012. In fact they did have issues with this new global truck over a year ago. Just be glad that most of the problems were probably already worked out before they sold it here domestically. I think that was by design. Not the case with the GM twins. They had tons of electrical issues.

Ford seems to have many recalls for serious issues. I’ve seen f150 stored with rust on them.
@wickedmainah9508 ай бұрын
Im looking at them, just tried a trd off rd new tacoma, liked that truck. Price wise the xlt is about 8g less but no heated seats. The lariat is about the same to get heated seats . Ill try one out today and see which one i like better.
@wickedmainah9508 ай бұрын
After trying a xlt sport I'm buying the ranger. Tacoma rode a bit more plush but interior was tight. Bells and whistles pretty close to each other. Ford was almost 10g less. Power wise the ranger felt a bit more snappy also and does have heated seats. Funny they don't list it on window sticker.
@HiPlains17 ай бұрын
Toyota has completely lost their minds. Basically a base SR5 cost the same as a XLT with FX4 package. The tacoma is not competitive anymore. I mean they can have a bit of a toyota tax but they are pissing off their most loyal fans with the insane MSRP's. The tundra prices are just as bad and both are already piling up on lots. People are running to other brands for better deals. And the sad think is the taco is now made with cheap labor in Mexico.
