Top 5 Missing Features in Modern Gaming

Modern gaming without a doubt offers endless possibilities for fun but at the same time there are elements from the past that are missing today. Why don't we go on a nostalgic trip and look back at five of those beloved features.
And technically some things on the list aren't, "features" but I couldn't think of a better name for the video :P

Game manuals were a very under appreciated medium from the past. They were like a little added bonus to your purchase. It was fun reading all the descriptions within, it made you form somewhat of a closer bond with the games in a weird way.

Unlockable characters in games are the thing I miss the most for sure. It’s very rare when playing the story mode for something unlocks anything nowadays in action or fighting games. Unlocking characters use to make for so much conversation for each other and honestly helped games live longer. Now you pull out the wallet to unlock characters and costumes

Look at something fighting games, plenty of unlockable costumes, characters, stages etc., in newer games, you have a season pass with content that has been finished way before they even released the game.

Replayable missions. It sucks being forced to start a new game in order to play a specific mission

Unlockables were king, it lead to you having to push yourself beyond your limits to unlock an item or character, you felt proud and amaze of having to complete such challenges, let alone get 100% in a game. Now most of the time it's just achievements or dlc...

Your argument about Demos only works if you look at the AAA space. Other than that, I'd say we're seeing the resurgence of demos thanks to events like Steam Next Fest.

The thing that I miss the most is definitively polishing. You can tell that game devs aren’t putting in 100% because they know they can patch bugs and glitches now. But before hand you needed to make sure everything was perfect. It’s lead to so many hyped up games being buggy messes at launch and then lead to the games dying

I really miss the manuals that we used to get they are always a great read and I read them everywhere even on the toilet but now they’re gone which is sad because it was real artistry at work there and also split screen gaming Especially now that I have a little nephew that wants to game But it seems to be the only way now is to buy Amazon system which is costly at least we still have the good all days for now😢

I remember the day i knew manuals were going away I grabbed the manual for a 360 game and it was four pages of controller inputs and health notices

Probably because there really isn't much to innovate anymore. The last game you could probably count was MW19 with animation and maybe Gunplay, and that was almost 4 years ago.

Top missing things in modern games: 1. Focus on fun, not on monetisation 2. No boxes, without solution and instructions. 3. You don't own games anymore. Ps. Volition is still owned by Embracer.

Extras (concept art, usually) have been slowly making a return in more recent video games such as the Paper Mario TTYD remake and Persona 5 Royal, and I hope to see more of it in the future, than just being restricted to social media or portfolio site-exclusive stuff.

Developers don't have fun anymore that time besides it being an art form, I think the "business ideal" and how to make the most profit from consumers has ruin many developers far and in between. I think most Devs worry will it make a profit to pay everyone off than having fun making a game.

Cheat codes are my biggest problems, not only are they becoming rare, they're either the Konami Code doing something minor, or simply nothing unique. The biggest culprit, GTA V has a lot of lackluster cheat codes. Most of them are simply used to summon certain common vehicles, while the rest have been heavily watered down. The invincibility cheat lasts for a useless 5 minutes at a time, and the fun ones like skyfall almost lead to a quick death. Only a handful of them are fun such as exploding bullets, high jump and quick running, but you would wish you had things like infinite ammo, bonus money in a game where the cool stuff are expensive, or flying cars. Don't get me started on how cheat codes can get disabled in missions.

This was more of a trend than a feature, but in the late 2000s/early 2010s, it seemed like most games that came out during that time seemed to have some sort of tacked on multiplayer. Examples include Tomb raider 2013. Dead space 2. Bioshock 2. The darkness. Mass effect 3. (Tho, it's pve survival.) Max payne 3. spec ops the line, and Assassin's creed brotherhood. Wonder what it would be like if that continued.

The WWE games had one thing it lacked since 2K18... Custom Entrance Themes. The last time we got this was in WWE 2K17..... On PS3. It was a pretty popular fan request for the games, next only to GM Mode (which did return as MyGM in WWE 2K22), and many people wanted that feature in the game, and we got the ability to import custom images into the game, and even having custom portraits in 2K22, so why not have custom entrance themes? And why not import custom videos to accurately make a custom show feel like what you can see in a WWE show like Monday Night Raw or Friday Night Smackdown??

I don’t have less love for gaming but I think we all need to accept that gaming is in a massive decline :( Where have all these great games gone? Why does nothing release? Where’s the elder scrolls 6? Where’s fable 4? Where’s saints row 5? Where’s gta 6? Where’s fallout 5? There’s so much more games but that’s just a few examples. Where’s rare gone? Why do ea only care about FIFA? What happened to game manuals and maps? The discs will be gone in the next couple of years! There will be no game stores that sell brand new games there will only be game stores that sells digital consoles, codes and merchandise. Where’s waiting outside of a game store in line for a new console/game gone? Where has all the cool collectors editions and special editions gone! Go look back literally every game that had a physical release used to have a special variant released alongside it. I haven’t been over a friends house to play co-op since the 360 because local gaming has just completely died! This is why there’s been a massive increase in the price of old video games such as GameCube games as people need to go back to a time when gaming was at its best. All I used to do as a child was play the GameCube, Wii and spend 100’s of hours on saints row 1 and 2 mainly 2 as so much can be done on there, the cheats the comedy the random one liners from your character (especially the British male voice) and the story just had everyone hooked! I still regularly play saints row 2 today I cannot deal with the fact that they can’t make a game anywhere near that level of fun a whole 15 years later. Anyone remember cruising around Stillwater listening to the Mike and David show on sr1? Oh yeah I forgot that company’s are removing comedy from games and jokes….. that’s really how depressing life is in the 2020’s…….. are sr reboot you truly destroyed my hope for any chance of a good game in the future.. I hope gta 6 doesn’t follow the same route or we as gamers are doomed! It’s hard to accept gaming has died but we are not far off.

To be fair disc demos are a thing that is best left in the past. The waste created from discs is huge and we don’t need demo discs adding to that, especially if the person actually goes on to buy the game, you’ve created twice as much waste.

I remember back in the early 1990s His toys R rose had a whole bunch of demos for the nintendo 64 And a lot of those demos are really expensive now turok 2 That's one of the most expensive rear Because a lot of these demo games that were in stores or have to be thrown away or given back to Nintendo

Working games on release... Even games I enjoy and work good today have been tainted by their awful release. Cyberpunk is a good example of that, the game would have been amazing if it would have release in the state it's in now but sadly more and more game developers are using patches and updates as a crutch or to make a quick buck
