yeah, maybe this isn't an issue at the top 0.1% level where Tettles plays, but at every level from top 1.5% all the way down to heroics and normals this is the number one most obvious mistake dps makes. tank wants to gather 2-3 packs, but dps starts going hog wild as soon as the first pack is pulled. while the tank is still trying to tag the 2nd and 3rd pack the dps is ripping aggro on the first pack. it brings a tear to my eye when i watch mdi and the tank runs through tagging 10 packs and the dps don't touch a single thing until they're all grouped up

One of the most useful Addon "Extras/Plugins" for me is the one with sound packs, BigWigs have those warnings with voice alert Packs and also most of the big Weakauras have the options built-in as well. When there are a dozen different things happening on the screen, the least thing I want to worry about is stare at the boss timers or even some trash abilities. Having those voice alerts are great, you can just hit your interrupts/stops as soon as you hear them, or move to stack/soak/step out of bad step without staring at those timers.

One thing I do with defensives that has helped me improve my survivability has been learning how to determine what will hurt in a high key early in the season. Even if i am over geared for a key or if i am doing a weekly key, i will rarely take a hit without a defensive to make sure that i do not get sloppy. Engraining that muscle memory has led to me living i keys where other people are finding out that they do not live. Another thing that i do early on in a season is figure out interactions between my spell reflect and the dungeons. This can be done for things like ams and karma as well. Being able to prematurely negate a mechanic saves the healers mana and make the overall safety of the group higher. The downside of this is that instead of learning where i NEED defensives to live in a high key, i more often need to figure out where i can live without my defensives to maximize damage (i play warrior so defensive stance usage and saving spell reflect for damage/ tank survivability) and limit times where i wont have coverage.
@banannasanta3 ай бұрын
I used to do this thinking I will have the muscle memory, but I would recommend adding a weak aura to ones that will one shot you for sure. One mistake in a high key on an ability you need to defensive equals death and all it takes is getting distracted for a second to not notice whatever triggers your muscle memory (be it voice line, timing, or other things).
@Olafr_Warrior3 ай бұрын
@@banannasanta 100% weak auras and big wigs play a large part in this. I have audio countdowns for large moments. Especially for abilities that I taunt reflect (dragon strike and Infused strike in azure vault). A good plater profile and cds on nameplate are absolutely a necessity in these high keys. Seeing what is casting on who and having a wa for refectable casts on me has been huge. An example of this was the first pull of throne of the tides. The highest key that my key group attempted in this dungeon was a 28. And while we got crushed on the first boss, my reflect weak auras allowed me to discern when crushing depths was on me in the mass of trash mobs. I think I got 3 of those reflects in that run. And while it was tyrannical, it saved my healer from having to waste externals on me and allowed me to save my wall and potion. Not to mention the sheer amount of damaged that the reflect did, allowing the trash to die just that much quicker.

No preparation in terms of routing, mechanics and positioning (how to turn mobs/bosses because of frontals for example). 3. Not managing your damage mitigation cds effectively. 4. Not thinking that your damage also matters, so that you just focus on aggro and surviving. 5. Tunnel vision and doing only your thing without being aware of where your group members are and being able to make decisions on the spot to salvage difficult situations. So don't try and finish that cast; use your defensives; off heal yourself if your class is able and the pull is going pear shaped; etc. Basically don't just look at the DPS meter and try to top it. Looking at dmg meters mid pull is a big one I think Greeding casts Popping aoe CDs or really just doing aoe before mobs gather (single target is almost as good as big aoe on 3 mobs - plus you can even out hp by hitting high hp mobs etc) Stressing (you don't HAVE to line things up exactly like the ideal opener or get that extra finisher into the cd window. Take it easy and don't stand in the fire and you'll kill the thing. Most wipes come from fuckups, not lack of "sick moves")

@JBX5677JB3 ай бұрын
Interrupts are huge for DPS. As a prot warrior tank main >3k, I will mess around in lower keys when I am bored and it is shocking how DPS will go a whole dungeon with less than 5 kicks. Even when I play my boomkin for fun on a one minute cd, I get at least 10-12 per dungeon. No excuses for these other classes. Not only do these extra casts going off cause deaths and unnecessary healing, which slows the key down, but as a tank, I will be forced to pull smaller if I am seeing casts go off and bodies hit the ground every pull. Especially in Dragonflight, I would say your kicks are just as important as your damage. My buddy who plays Havoc is often a close third on the damage meters, but brings 30+ kicks per dungeon. I have an incredible success rate when I bring them to higher keys.
@wazzupman2453 ай бұрын
I somewhat disagree with Tip #1. I definitely agree that people hold their CDs too much, but depending on the CD of your ability it may be wise to save it depending on where you are. I play BM, so I pretty much send Bestial Wrath on CD, but when we were using Call of the Wild I would save it for either dangerous trash packs or bosses if I knew they were up next. If you're 1 pack away from a dangerous Tyrannical boss and you're popping your CDs on that trash pack I think that's a big mistake. Anything under 1 minute you should send on CD pretty much always, but those bigger 2 or 3 minute CDs I would potentially save if something more dangeous is coming up shortly.
@Tettles3 ай бұрын
I will agree that it's a bit context dependent. What I will say is that in general you're probably getting 2 uses of your cds on a boss almost regardless of when you press them. Say you press it on the trash pack right before the boss. Boss is 3m long, trash pull takes 1m, travel time 30s in between. You're still getting 2 uses regardless. That's typically the issue. A LOT of people don't press their cds enough, and while you bring up a good point I think in general starting with overuse and bringing it back a bit is better.

Prio damage is a big one. I don't know how many Dawns I did when it first came out where people would just let Lerai sit there and pulse AOE on the group while they attacked everything else but her or just dumped padding AOE as she is killing everything. Another one is people switching classes and then not knowing how to use their defensives. I was playing with my friend last night and he was on a class he doesn't play that much and he was at 30% hp almost the entire dungeon, I was like breh. Dmg is good but you need to live too.
@amethonys27983 ай бұрын
#1 is way too context dependent and also relies heavily around your tank pulling around cooldowns (they won't). If you're only in like a 13 or whatever there is no world you should send your cooldowns on cooldown where you sync up with the Ret Paladin or whoever who thanos snaps the pack leading into going from a like 30-40 second pack into a 90 second pack because no one has anything up.

No hate but i think you are missing a target group of m+ players, some mistakes/tips are very basic and more important for newer players/lowest keys and some are pretty in depth. The interrupt tracking on nameplates and min-maxing your kick is oriented towards higher end players, just like you said most players in pugs or low to mid keys hardly use their interrupts or CCs at all. On the other hand pre-movement and cooldown usage is pretty basic stuff. I‘m not saying you need a specific target group but it would help newer players to understand which mistakes they need to focus on rather than staring at weakauras on units while dying to swirlies. Anyway nice video

Actually having Details NOT showing others than yourself would improve most DPS players. ALL of them are such competetive wankaz they cant do mechanics or anything else for that matter cause they lose the dps race, wich is the only reason they do dungeons to begin with...
