Great video as always, Jonny! I would appreciate seeing some love for the phaser - often overlooked but integral to classics like Dancing in the Moonlight and For the Love of Money. Pairs well with envelope filter or fuzz too, a la Larry Graham! Edit: Just found your modulation effects video. Always a step behind, me!
@JonnyDibble2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! A phaser is currently the only modulation effect on my pedalboard! 😍

I don't think i ever actually NEED an envelope filter pedal, but it's one of my favorite pedals I have just for the different tones you can get out of it. I've got the MXR Bass Envelope Filter. Super fun just to mess around with along with a funky drum track. Im easily amused.
@JonnyDibble3 жыл бұрын
Haha, yeah "need" is definitely subjective 😋 Oh man, SUPER fun!

I've had that pedal for about 6 years and haven't found a use for it in my music.....yet. But, honestly, it is one of the most fun pedals out there.
@TheMemo659 Жыл бұрын
I went 37 years sans pedals. Now rocking a 4 space board with a tuner, distortion, and chorus. No intention of going bigger than a 4 space board. Pre-amp, HPF and compressor not needed with the amp I use. Darkglass' Vintage Microtubes is the pedal that started it for me. Has a killer blend feature where you set the distortion how you want, then set the mix with your clean signal so its just a bit of grit that doesnt drop the bass. I use as a subtle always on "warmth" effect that makes the overall mix sound fuller. Honestly, my single notes still sound clean to me unless I do a pedal on/off comparison. I have to dig in pretty good or play chords to hear the distortion. Currently using the MXR chorus/flange as a sparkle effect for intros and spacey songs. Thinking of changing that to a phaser instead, those still sound killer on the low notes where the chorus/flange only really pops on the higher notes.

Hey Jonny, first of all I love the video's! Second I have used a tremolo for some years on my pedalboard, The way I use it is super fun. Put the tremolo on a extreme choppy setting and set it last in the effect chain. put a synth pedal like a boss SY-1 ( you have to try this pedal it's mental) before it. And let it 'rip' you can use the rate of the tremolo to set a nice rythmn. It's a nice way to set up some rythmn tracks without having a drummer. combine it with a loopstation and you'll sure have hours of fun. Cheers from Belgium !

Just added the Sonicake Boom avenue to get a feel of the effects at a low cost investment ($79 on eBay). Has the fuzz, octave (2 down), Preamp, and compressor all in a small format. If you have the money you can buy all the pedals, but to find out if I will use them I thought this was a great option. I already used the fuzz, but the compressor and Preamp are always on. I think I will use your recommendations (as well as Gun’s and Guitars channel) to add full pedals later. I have the Way Huge Swollen Pickle on my Electric Guitar board and have greatly enjoyed it. Thanks

Really love the content you are bringing to us and the world. And I do agree about the reverb and delay. Been using a reverb pedal in the effects loop on my Peavey amp and it really has opened up my tone and gives me the ability to expand the dynamics for single notes.

I picked up an ehx Attack Decay the other day, which I think might turn out to be more practical than you might expect on bass. In addition to the swells and tape reverse, which might be usable in rare situations, it has a very good fuzz, with a “tone” knob that I gather is more of a low (or high?) pass filter where it rolls of the top end, sounds like it does more than your typical tone pot. It has a blend knob as well as an effects loop, so you could use the bypass to turn a whole chain on and off. Plus you can get a tremolo effect and lots of crazy and fun sounds from it! Bear in mind, it can be really complicated when getting started with it...
