I love this. One of my favorite doctors just retired after practicing for 50 years. He continued to do surgery until his retirement. Another doctor of mine graduated medical school in 1969, and he’s still practicing. He doesn’t miss a beat. Even if one begins med school in one’s 30s and beyond, there are many more years to be a practicing physician! Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Carl Allamby was featured on CBS’s Morning show. He is a first year ER resident at age 48. His story is amazing. I remember posting on a premed/med message board a few years ago, and a med student mentioned a fellow classmate being in his 50s. He decided to go to med school after being a dentist for years. There are more stories like this than people realize. It is never too late, folks!

Thank you so much docotor Webb for this. So many of us have the desire and passion to make it in the medical field but we notice that our weakness and little things that comes our way turn to make us doubt if we can make it. I really appreciate the fact that you have made it clear that medical students are all like us and not some superhuman. And thank you for the hints on things to do to make it to medical school.

I have a question. What if I take all my prerequisites at a community college? I’m a career changer and just didn’t take the prerequisites while in undergraduate school. I’ve applied to post baccalaureate programs who all have said that bc I didn’t take enough science courses while in undergraduate, I should take another route. Thus, I’ve decided to take them at my community college all while volunteering as an EMT and working as a CNA part time. What do you think my chances are?

Can you make a video about No-US IMG in high competitive specialities?
@antoniowebbmd
@antoniowebbmd 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, I don't have much experience in that arena but I would say the best way to get into a US residency is to find programs that accept foreign graduates and rotate there. If you can get more when one rotation set up, that would be better. Long as you get your foot in the door then work extremely hard/make connections then that may help. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions! Honestly, I was only held back by the first five. But that hasn't stopped me from ... uh... dreaming about it. Jokes aside; in Augusta, GA, it only takes about 2-and-a-half months, and $1,100 to become an EMT-B (basic). This will get you a job in an ambulance. A job in an ambulance will help you with acquiring 'hands-on' patient care, and it will put you in a roller-coaster of extreme stresses, and utterly boring calls. The pay is awful. The work conditions are awful. But your ability to put that experience onto your application is highly, highly valuable.

Just some things I have heard such as the admission committee discriminate against people who have children, and a student with a 3.7 GPA is not high enough for MD and that they have to go to DO school and that if you have even one F your automatically eliminated as a candidate. This comments were made by a Post Bacc school. I don't agree with them but they tell students this all the time. I find the process of applying dishearten because of these types of comments. Thanks for trying to clarify.
