Gotta admit, I love those west coast RVs, and that Jayco appeals to on a very basic level. As nice as slides are, if you plan on pulling something all over the place, a no slide camper has some advantages. If you plan on long haul trips, no slide means complete access in a parking lot overnight stay or where ever you are. Plus like you mentioned, one less thing to go wrong.

I have a no slide JayCo with queen bed and the bath has a separate shower. We love it. Pull over and eat lunch and use the bathroom with ease. Back it in and level it and you are done, boom! And it’s a little more light weight as well.

I'm loving that Class A you showed. You called it "old school" and it really is. We're currently restoring a 1988 Elite 36' Class A that has a floor plan almost exactly like that! I was blown away that there's a new one being made with that same convenient no-nonsense design. Maybe more RVers and Mfgrs are coming around and seeing the light! As a side note, we've found that a bunk house trailer makes a great couples camper - just pull out the mattresses and put in some thin carpet... there's amazing storage in those spaces. We keep chairs, grills, coolers, extra food and bevereges, all kinds of things in there.

The Grey wolf floor plan is great, except for one deal breaker. The deal breaker is where the water heater is located. I want a pass through storage up front. With the water heater where it is, much of the storage is pretty useless, either that or have to nearly empty the storage to get to the stuff stored in the middle towards the left side,
@JoshtheRVNerd Жыл бұрын
I can respect that for sure. I understand why they standardized that Fernando across their entire lineup but I also agree losing a pass thru is kind of tough.

Slide out have their advantages no doubt. I’ve had both and the one key thing I noticed besides room and the additional maintenance and leak point is the additional WEIGHT. Omg you can make a 4000lb camper jump to 5500-6000lb easy making a sensible 1/2ton towable camper to require a larger 3/4 ton truck. I found this out the hard way. Got a wonderful deal on a palomino puma so we traded our sunline only to realize once I hit the highway my dodge 1500 was way way way to weak. Something I never thought about. Oh I was told it could be towed by a 1500 but it was not a good idea.

I like the semi-private bedroom in the Freedom Express 20SE and the Jay Flight 212QB. While the sleeping area is still visible it gives the feel of a multiple room trailer. I wish someone would do the Grey Wolf layout with a wall behind the couch to allow for a private bedroom and a small slide for the range and sink. I've seen it with the dinette on the park side in larger trailers but we prefer a dinette on the camp side so we have view of the campsite and woods at our regular state parks sites rather than the road.

My current camper is a no slide 2020 Shasta 26BH, Shasta quality is a little to be desired... but the layout is something for a no slide unit that other companies should consider. No slides, makes them lighter, less to go wrong and if you make the camper too big, too nice, too comfortable, you stay in it...a camper is a place to sleep and make food to make your travels cheaper as you enjoy the OUTDOORS. Examples, I did a 4 week vacation to the Badlands, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons and Eastern Tennessee for $5,500. I spent 5 weeks in Florida, including 2 in Key West for $4,500. I spend the same $ on a month long vacation as I used to on a 1 week vacation staying in hotels, flights and restaurants, so I have more money, I vacation MORE and have MORE fun. Don't get sucked into buying the nicest camper you can afford, you still need money left over to travel and do fun things. A no slide just might be your perfect camper. 😁😁👍👍

Until then, we’ll just keep the tires on the Coachmen 204 RD rolling down the road for a few more years. Respectfully, W.S. P.S. There aren’t many really good independent RV parts and repair facilities left but when you find one ask them this question. I’m very familiar with 3 in the southwest and here’s the question you ask, what part of an RV do you do the most repairs on? Slides, electric awnings with wind sensors and residential refrigerators. Other than structural items these are usually the most expensive repairs many of which happen even with careful maintenance.

Yes, I will take one please. Oh, but my wife will not sign off on not having at least one slide. Of course, she wants a mid bunk/bonus room 5'th. wheel and I only have a 1/2 ton truck at the moment.

@@JoshtheRVNerd That's a tough one, but I think the Jay Flight 212QB. Too bad the wife is a jazzy pants camper 🙂

Josh can you check out a Crossroads Zinger ZR259FL it looks fantastic as couples campers with no slides! Thank you!! Love your show, the hubby and get a kick out of watching you!

I have tried to find a copy of that to record for 8 months.. that’s probably the only reason it’s not on this list

Josh, another great video. Do you have or can you make a top 5 RV,s for tall people, for people that’s 6’7” plus. Thank you.
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you could even make a top 5 from that. This industry doesn't make taller stuff often. BUT... I have some ideas for you (oddly.. travel trailers are the best option for tall people) 1.) Eagle HT has 7ft ceilings 2.) Reflection has 7ft ceilings 3.) "Eagle"-proper has 7'3" Ceilings 4.) Destination Trailers (often called park models) usually have ceilings ranging from 8ft high to 8'6" Beyond that.. I'm not really aware of much

Josh i know your a big fan of ember im surprised the 170mrb wasn't on the list. Also Im a big fan of the geo pro 15tb a king bed in a trailer that size is amazing

Man it's so SO tough boiling things down like this. No matter what SOMETHING gets left off. Sometimes I feel like I could make a top 20 and someone would say "yeah but you forgot THIS one" and ... they'd be right

I like the chassis/bones of the Arctic Fox but I would want to rip everything out and design a different layout. You ever seen anything like that?
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen people DIY some stuff for sure but never on a brand new Arctic Fox

Thank you I am so tired of slides Wish companies would stop leaning on them so hard Use to be a time where an RV was specified as "slide out", but now the opposite is true. The marketplace is inundated with slide outs that one has to specify they don't want one and their options are limited at best.

Awesome video. I have a 5th wheel and have always wondered why no slide 5th wheels aren't a thing. Any thoughts as to why? Thank you for all you do!
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
I feel confidently I have THE answer for you actually.. though It's kind of an ugly answer MFGs build what sells. It's pretty much that simple. No-Slide fifth wheels or even stick and tin fifth wheels are something that proved less and less popular over the years Kind of like how nearly no MFGs are currently building popups or hybrids. They're a dying breed I think

hey uncle josh, have you ever done a "best sounding rvs" video? Might be a silly idea but i realized i havent seen many reviews or overviews of RV stereo systems. just a thought...
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
I have not. It's not something I've ever really tested Though the president of Bish's RV kept hooking up to various RVs with his phone and cranking music via bluetooth at the recent Jayco dealer display to see how they actually sound The one that surprised us was how a common Jay Feather's outside speakers sounded better than a big Seismic's speakers lol

Also, is there any substantive difference between the Arctic Fox and Nash? Thank you.
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
yeah there’s some differences there. Nash tends to be a LITTLE more off-grid focused and basic inside while Arctic Fox is slightly more tuned to being a little more comfy on the inside. The differences start boiling down in their features and amenities + layouts

My wife and I would prefer no dinette and just a tray or removable table for theater reclining seats. No reason to have both for just a couple is there?
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
everyone's opinions seem to vary. Only a few years ago "no dinette means no sale" was a common saying. Now... there's a LOT of people who say "why do they still put these space wasting dinettes in campers?" But there's still a lot of folks who want/need dinettes for various reasons. I don't see them going away any time soon if ever
@frankneidenbach75062 жыл бұрын
Also, why did Forest River do away with their remote? I use mine (2016 Salem 27RKSS) all of the time for slide, awning, stablizers and lights. Wish it included tounge jack.
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. It's possible the supplier stopped offering it because I know they had them for a long time A LOOOOT of brands are now adopting things like the LCI one control system you can operate remotely from your phone
