Having a snowboard bag helps you remember all your gear and not have to worry about forgetting anything because you can just throw it all in the bag and go without worry. It also keeps everything organized, which really helps if your driving up to a mountain with some buddies. Imo it's more convenient and helps stay organized

Also, a $15 bag is usually enough to have your board, boots, helmet, gloves and goggles in. Very convenient if you have the board inside your car so the board edges don't ruin the interior of the car as well.

I agree with you 100% on most of this stuff. Stomp pad, however, they are like $5.99 and I recommend them to anyone learning. It just gives a visual indication and as they progress a tactile indication (so they don't have to look down) of where their foot needs to be. Granted I never used one and still never do and I can probably ride down a run regular and goofy with a foot out of my bindings. But, that being said I think they are a great tool to set people up for success.

Also I agree you can ride powder with any snowboard, shred it even. Can you do it for a LONG time? The powder board definitely makes it easier to sink your tail, float your nose and save energy on longer powder days. Way less effort to surf deep stuff

@@willsohrnberger2441 It's not only a question of how long. Sure Riding a true twin in powder requires to go more tail heavy, and thus puts more pressure on the back foot. Given how wide any snowboard is, it'll always float well. But there is a huge difference between floating well backfoot-heavy and charging down with your weight tilted forward. Also the powder's depth changes a lot, sure if you're riding 20-25cm of fresh pow you'll be able to go at it fine with any board, but what about those 50-60cm days ?

For me, I couldn’t get my foot to stay on the board when I was trying to skate. Fell at one point cause my foot slid off while trying to make a minor turn and wicked hurt my knee. Once I got my stomp pad, I had zero issues. Gave my board an actual grip point.

I never had one while i was learning. I only only started using them a couple years ago. They just give that little extra control and confidence if you have to skate through slightly more challenging terrain, like if you're going to rip to another chairlift and dont want to strap in. I'd dont recommend beginners use it as a crutch. Learn to balance and steer more with your front foot. Then down the road, after you've got that skill down, go ahead and try them out.

I've got to disagree slightly on the goggles. Definitely don't buy _overpriced_ goggles, but buy good quality goggles. It makes a huge difference in your confidence as a beginner. Field of view, peripheral vision, fog resistance, scratch resistance, and ability to see your feet without looking down are all HUGE factors in ability to progress and get comfortable. I made the mistake of getting cheap goggles and lasted one day on the slopes in misery before returning them and buying a 'name brand' pair, which have been amazing for only $50 more.

Hard disagree with most of this video. If you arent solely a park rat, this advice is all bad. The only thing that makes sense is the leash, they're definitely useless if your resort doesn't specifically require them. Part of what you're paying so much for is the ballistic rating and R&D in the Oakleys - that way if you kiss a pinetree they dont shatter into plastic shrapnel *directly infront of your eyeballs.* Ever taken a coreshot while transporting your board in the back of your car? Sucks. Board bags have padded backs to prevent this. They're also not that expensive-- Buy one in July. I got burton's "top of the line" bag a few years ago for literally 8.99. Stomp pads prevent unnecessary groin tear injuries for new riders that are using boards with slick topsheets (mervin comes to mind.) But yea, other than that specifically it's just preference. And you definitely are going to wish you spent the 8 bucks on a tool when you're spending your ride day hiking your ass down a mountain in knee deep snow for 2 hours to fix some binding screws. (pro tip - ask ski patrol, almost all of them carry them)

Also seems like a veiled ad for the goggs- my guess is he's probably getting some kind of sponsorship work from that company. In example - Used Oakley Flight Decks are still better than brand new 70 dollar SEND-O-9000's off Amazon or whatever. So, the real tip there is to shop used for the pricey stuff, wash the frame and buy a new lens during a summer sale... but dont skimp on quality to save money. Smith. Oakley. Dragon. Etc.

Dude I appreciate your feedback for sure but I think you miss understood my video LOL I made this video mainly to help new riders not feel overwhelmed with the cost of this sport. But let’s break your points down. I am not just a park rat 😂 Scope other videos. If you smoke a tree that hard you will be in the hospital my friend. No goggle claims tree protection on them too lol I personally have never taken a coreshot in my car lol but if you are worried about that throw some towels down, $2 at Walmart and I don’t think you can buy an Amazon board bag for $8.99 😂 Stomp pads don’t save lives, proper body positions do. If you unload correctly you won’t have pressure on your loose leg. Lastly, you can just hand tighten the loose screw just to get you to a bench to fix the issue but once again this was for entry level people. If your ripping pow like that you should have a tool 🤘🏼 Thanks for your opinion though.

I have to partially disagree with having a snowboard bag. I have leather seats and my back seats don't fold down in my car. The few times where I didn't use a snowboard bag is the times where I ended up scratching my interior of my car. Using a rollerbag is over kill, but a simple non-padded bag should suffice if you going to a local resort if you're in the same situation as me.

Agreeing with almost everything Buckhouse says .... but don’t just blindly listen. A few things: 1) A snowboard tool is pretty cheap. It can be a life saver if you like to spend more time in the trees and maybe off piste. Oddly my bindings came loose once when I was in the trees which can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Thank god I had a tool on me to tighten up. Don’t mess with the trees ya know? 2) Powder snowboards are indeed unnecessary as Jonathon pointed out. A great snowboarder can handle any terrain on any board. But .... would you want to be in the park with a stiff direction carving board? No. Can you carve as good with a flimsy park board? No. Can you float as well in deep powder with a soft park board? No. Fact is the variety of boards out there lend themselves well to different tuning styles, so it’s nice to have a park board AND powder board IF you are equally passionate about riding the park and powder. Totally unnecessary, but if you can afford it why not? 3) A SNOWBOARDING BAG IS CRUCIAL. My god I think my man says they aren’t needed because he forgot that he lives in the center of it all, with a ton of sick resorts within driving range. There are a LOT of us who travel to ski and board. Probably more of us fly to hit the slopes then those who do not, and you ain’t getting on a plane without a bag. Funny thing .... Buckhouse has a bag because he flies to resorts. If you don’t live in Utah, CO, Montana, or northern Cali it’s probably wise to get a bag. Just get a USED one on eBay etc. doesn’t have to be expensive.

Yeah I totally agree with you. All those make huge differences in snowboarding. I live in the mountains also but before that I needed a bag to fly. I have to have a powder board, otherwise my legs would die after a few runs. I always carry a tool because what if you are in the middle of the run and notice an issue. Not safe to ride with faulty equipment.

Man, I totally smoke my back leg in deep pow on a regular board, my pow board saves my back leg and lets me do way more runs. I all caps NEED my pow board to maximize my fun on pow days, which are by far, my favorite days, but otherwise, I agree, don't need any of that other stuff.

Agree. Why you can easily say you don't need a powder board, once you have one you would never want to ride without it. Allows you to ride with a more centered stance (rather than heavily off the back foot with a twinish ride) as the board does all the work for you ie directional, tapered, rockered in nose. A powder/freeride board with set back camber also allows you to feel comfortable back on the piste to a certain level.

Your only option would be to fly and then you need that bag. Even if you do live in the center of it all do you not want to travel to other mountains in other states? That bag is a necessity.

Powder snowboard In some cases yes I agree as back in the day you can ride a camber board in powder with the binding set back. But powder boards are amazing on and off piste. i did the cheap goggles at first and was the biggest mistake. i would up ruining a few trips because of fogging and not right for the conditions. ya gotta be able to see. maybe if you're going down the bunny hill, but if you're ripping down some steep, bowl or just a groomer that's tracked out. btw.... try the pink oakley's they are incredible when overcast and snowing.

instead of goggles, get a helmet with flippable goggles. quality of life improvement. Also, you dont need to soak your car. grab a brush and some old shirt and leave your board dry. any remaining water will go in the bag.

Sure you don't NEED a powder board, but it makes powder days a lot better if you have that extra float. Especially if you're riding pow multiple days and dont want to wear yourself out. Back leg burn and digging yourself out of waste deep snow is a workout. Plus, deep days don't come around that often. Its good to squeeze as much fun out of them as possible.

@@sax1607 I've ran both. Smith Chromapop is better for those that like true color visuals and Oakley Prizm is nicer for low lights and shadows. Personally prefer Prizm due to the color contrast from it since it helps highlight rocks and rough terrain better. I also have pretty severe astigmatism so I personally feel that Chromapop is too bright for me and the reflection from the snow bothers me on bluebird days.

The goggles i got off of amazon were a nightmare.. same ones actually. having to wear a mask this past season due to covid- they fogged up the second I went to put my bindings on or while waiting in the lift line. My oakleys on the other hand never gave me that issue, even my dragons

One day without a stomp pad and my groin was burning from trying to apply pressure against the rear binding. Idk what kind of snow you all have but my snow clumps up on my boot and any tiny bit of ice left over will make your boot have zero friction with your board.

Hmm, I agree with this video to a point. If you're just starting out snowboarding, sure, you don't really need these items. I've never ridden with stomp pads or with a leash. On the other hand, some practical tips to the newbie's reading this, a tool is personally a MUST-HAVE! Not all resorts have a public tuning table, and I'd rather spend 20 bucks on a tool than $40 on a new set of hardware cause your bolt fell off halfway down a mogul run. Kinda disagree on the goggles too, nothing bugs me more when I'm riding if the lenses alter my vision, narrow my field of view, or fog like crazy. Foggy goggles are more dangerous than no goggles! Just my experience, but more expensive goggles tend to be a lot better in these aspects... the extra $$ are paying for all the individuals meticulously designing and testing the product to get rid of the 'bugs'. And a bag is personal preference, but I don't prefer having the back of my car sopping wet and muddy after a day on the hill... especially in the spring. That being said, I probably wouldn't use my bag if I didn't already have it for air-travel. Powder boards aren't necessary, but they do make an enormous difference!

Spending $450+ on a brand new Flylow shell jacket would be much more unreasonable than buying a good pair of goggles. You can find great goggles from actual companies for reasonable prices, especially in the off season. Smith Squad, Oakley Line Miner, Electric Kleveland are all ~$150 or less. Don't risk your eyes.

Dude.. these are not great tips.. this video is totally wrong. You definitely need a bag if your only mode of travel to Colorado is flying. Its definitely convenient to use a board bag even when driving. I literally pack mine with all my outerwear and sometimes all my luggage. Life hack! You're welcome. If you are a beginner, get a stomp pad. Especially if you have a slick top sheet. A powder board absolutely makes a difference in powder. Especially if you normally ride a shorter board. Short boards suck in powder unless set all the way back. And then you say "you dont need a stomp pad but buy mine".... very confusing to the people who are just getting started. I highly recommend a stomp pad for any beginner or person with a slick top sheet. A tool isn't a necessity but is definitely super convenient! You can find a Dakine ratchet tool for less than 20 bucks or an simple one for around 8-12 dollars in lots of brands.

Everything stays all wet and gross. I prefer to have everything out so it can dry. I have only ridden with a stomp pad my first year and 100% think they’re over rated. Didn’t even use it really. I have also ridden in feet of California “powder” without a powder board. I put quotes because if you know California, you know that stuff is thick and heavy. It is not NEEDED but sure does help. I'd pack my gear and clothes in my bag and obviously leave my bag at the place I was staying. Yeah cali powder sucks!!! Nothing like our champagne powder here in CO. Sure you dont need a powder board but why use a tennis racquet to play baseball... I have a couple boards without stomp pads and several with stomp pads and it's much easier unloading with even though I'm fine without.. Also... thanks for telling me about my own comment! I know what he said about the tool. It is definitely not over rated. Especially at resorts that took away the tool benches during covid. Goggles - This is hugely dependent on the climate where you ski/snowboard. Some people may be just fine with a pair of cheap $50 amazon Zionor crap, and some people have fogging / condensation issues with Oakleys. The only pair of goggles I can recommend based on personal experience are the Smith's. I can have my face cover tugged inside my goggles, any slight fog as I exhale goes away immediately, leaving no condensation which eventually turns into ice. Not to mention that they also offer lifetime warranty. Stomp pad - Necessary if your snowboard has a slippery vinyl wrap. Not all snowboard has a matte finish. An experienced snowboarder may be able to deal with not having a stomp pad, but a beginner would dread getting off the chair lift.

As a beginner snowboarder starting this season- i’d say saving for cheap is going to cost you big. Stomp pad has been saving me multiple times from inner thigh pain and knee twisting already. And DON’T be cheap on goggles or helmet or any protective cuz they save you money for long term. medical care.

I keep a 11 in 1 screwdriver in the car. I’ve never needed it on the road except for setting up a new set of bindings or board in the hotel room the night before. I can’t see carrying a tool on your person for that one in a million just in case when you can either walk out to the car quick or use the bench at the lodge.

The goggles you do need quality ones with UV protection rather than a cheap spray of UV protection that will scratch off. The snow reflects invisible UVs and cheap goggles will allow your pupils to dialate, allowing those UVs to get in / instead of stopping them from getting in. This is how you burn your retinas and destroy your eyes. If you really want to save money, save yourself the trouble of LASIK eye surgery by investing in proper sunglasses/goggles. No need for the Oakleys, but it won't be the outdoor master or zionor that youtubers get sponsored by that will protect your retinas

Gotta disagree with most of this. It’s never a good idea to skimp on good optics. When it comes to snow, what you can’t see can hurt you and the well established brands of optics have the tech to help you see better. There’s a huge difference between the budget brands and top brands. Stomp pads and tools are both a matter of preference but neither break the bank. Same goes for a board bag. If you want one, get it. There’s prices to fit everyone’s needs. Yes you can technically ride any board anywhere but that doesn’t mean you’re gonna have a good time doing it. Pow boards exist for a reason. It makes the pow experience that much better. Travis Rice could take any Lib Tech board into the backcountry and he chooses the orca. Danny Davis could take any Burton board and he uses the Deep Thinker. P.S. Zeb Powell disagrees about not being able to ollie on a swallow tail. The difference between mid and top tier googles is big.

Stomp pad helps for several reasons related to the snow conditions/rain & if you have knee issues, trust me it helps. My goggles are great paid more than $70. I didn't pay 200+ for goggles - that's not necessary. Have to travel to ski - living in the absolute middle of TN. BUT once I get to Colorado...we throw our boards & stuff into my daughter's off-road truck to go all over Colorado to ride - no bag needed. Agree - time on snow (in each season) helps you ride better.

Some things I can understand, but the bag I am looking forward too. I don't want to make my car all wet. I also just started snowboarding and I am going to an indoor (don't live near mountains so the only option). I have goggles from my mom but haven't used them (in an indoor you don't need them). Helmet is from a general sporting store, clothes partially from my mom. I did however bought a board (with bindings) and shoes. The salesguy (snowboarder) did an awesome job! Not the expensive stuff, gave us options (a friend and I started together) etc. He also gave us some tips on the waxing (when it was needed; not going to do the wax myself). Go with the basics, not too expensive, rent a board etc, to try it out. All the rest you can get along the way. Thanks for the video!

I’ve ridden with and without stomp pads. So much better with one and they help with one-footed tricks. Snowboard edges tear up car interiors, so I’ll have to disagree on that one as well. Snowboards can also become very dangerous projectiles in the event of a car wreck. I’m surprised you didn’t say Gore-Tex. I appreciate the quality of it, but for most people, a 10k/10k jacket is more than enough.

Could I get off lifts without one, 99% of the time yea of course, but it really does make the process much more enjoyable and the cost is minimal.

I think snowboarding in general is an expensive hobby, if you are skimping for a few hundred bux probably in the wrong sport :X. But I guess the point of the vid is a difference between "Need" and wants. if you wanna just be on the hill you only need the minimal stuff. the minimum you really need is board, bindings, boots, pants n jacket, helmet, gloves n goggles. I got most of my gear up front so am set for a fair few years imo. I generally buy extra stuff here n there just to try stuff out (different lenses for oakleys, different bindings etc).

I just got a pack of Volcom stomp pieces. The top of my DOA board is super slick. This is my first season riding and fortunately i havent fallen "much" getting off the lift, but the first day riding i fell getting on cause my boot slid off right as i got through the gate. Trash goggles that do not support the industry, good googles that last do come at a price, getting trash goggles like the ones you are pushing will make people want to quick. A tool is vital, I have fixed my bindings after ripping them out after a kicker. If you ride often, it's worth it. Stomp pad is useless, agreed Leashes agreed Agree with powder snowboard, but a powder board is so fun if you have the ability to own a quiver. But a solid directional twin should do the trick. Number one is probably the worst advice you could give to anyone. Proper goggles are one of the most important parts of gear, that is if you value your eyesight of course. I'm not saying you need to buy overpriced eyewear, but at any end of season snow sale you'd find some real googles from real brands (Smith, Electric etc.) that have real UV protection for a good price, not some cheap Amazon or Alibaba rip offs like the ones you're trying to sell. Also, you contradict yourself in almost every point you make. "You don't need a stomp pad - but hey, I'll put some out soon, go buy those!". If you really want to support snowboarders and give back to the community stop slinging cheap inferior gear from companies (like "Khuno" or "Outdoor Master" that couldn't care less about snowboarding to people who don't know any better.

@@bumpsandriffles1041 The lenses are shit, it's not necessarily what you can notice (as in your vision) but what happens to your eye. The high end lenses are UV rated so they block the rays from just cooking your eyes inside their sockets when you ride lol

UV rays bounce really well off snow though (cause it’s white) so avoiding looking into the sun won’t really help tbh. Look into Electrics if Oakleys or Dragons are too expensive, their lenses are pretty affordable and they’re still high quality or wait for end of season sales, I know Oakley always has a fat sale near summer on their snow stuff. It’s not necessarily about being good at snowboarding either lol, nice goggles are just gonna save your vision regardless of your skill. The UV effect on your eyes takes years to show so you might not notice it now, but when you’re older you might develop cataracts or something of the sort.

Leases are coming in handy especially for beginners because the leash isn’t essentially for the rider of the board but rather a safety precaution. I’ve witnessed several times now how snowboards were sliding down the hill into the back of another person that’s sitting on the track. So if you’re new to snowboarding definitely get a leash.

I don't remember if I used your Affiliate link a year ago but I hope I did. Those Khuno glasses are one of the best purchases I have made regarding my riding. I bought multiple lenses for different weather riding. I've only noticed fog on very humid days but you can wipe them with an anti-fog cleaner. I like my stomp pad but its stars I glued to the board. I like the feel and the aesthetic but I don't NEED it. For the tool people can just use a letherman they already own or one of those 6 in one screw drivers for 10$ and keep it in their bag or coat.

Snowboard leashes are super handy to carry your board using it like a shoulder strap and hiking backcountry or getting on your board on a very steep slope, holding a leash has saved me having to chase my board down the hill a few times and leashes are super cheap, $5.00 online. The more expensive googles are also stronger and if you ride trees it is worth the money for sure, I've taken hits from branches that shattered cheap googles, luckily I didn't get any shards in my eyes but it made me pay the extra $100 for better googles. A good pair should last a few years and really you are only paying extra $30 per year which is cheap to save your eyes.
