@@jydeinden I think when it comes to overweight pets, it's really the owners mindset that needs to change. It doesn't matter if the cat wants excess food - it shouldn't have access to that excess food. Who is giving it access? The owner.

If your dog is on a diet, try using super low cal filler foods like green beans, puree them with a a tiny bit of chicken or liver then mix in with their normal food. My dog gobbles it up and it makes him feel fuller. Then he's less likely to beg for snacks or find them on the side of the road. Then also weigh their food out every morning and use their kibble as a treat/reward. Use enrichment toys/puzzles to make their meals last longer. A fun game too is hiding their meal around the house so they have to sniff it out. The nose/brain work will knock them right out for a good nap and again stretch out their meal.

Ziggy needs a lion haircut so the owner can easily see how heavy he is. And she needs to get him a harness & every time he fuses about getting no more food, she should take him outside so he has to walk more. That's a start anyway..

She needs to quit making excuses for her cat and take charge of his health. My cat gets fed twice a day. She is of good healthy weight. But its only because I don't feed him every time she demands it. I dont know how many times I have said to her..."Too bad, you just got fed earlier. If I fed you every time you wanted it you would be the world's fattest cat!"

I really love that they’re showing how dogs can just as easily/happily be toy-motivated as treat/food-motivated! When training our dog as a puppy, I learnt to leash train her (to not pull on the leash as we walked) during feeding time and just used her kibble instead of treats which worked well Then when training her to go off leash and not bolt/stay with us my sister learnt to hold/keep a ball or toy in our hand for her to focus on and she wouldn’t even realize she was off leash (using redirection etc) It really doesn’t take long to train them, but is faster and easier for dogs & owners when the pup’s younger. And, just like with kids you need to have consistency and follow through and they will actually thrive on a consistent routine, knowing what to expect within the parameters of the boundaries you set (this is true w both kids & pets)

It depends on the dog. Some dogs are much more toy motivated than others. My colleagues dog loves toys and loves working for toys. My dog doesn't give a flying f about them, so she's trained with food. She's also spayed and has a perfect waistline. It's NOT hard to keep a dog at a good weight, even if you train with food. I don't use treats, though. Never have and never will, I've always used her kibble.

Diet for a pet or person can be surprisingly difficult. I remember 1 chubby kitty we had (before the pitchforks come out, she came to us like this). She would eat the leftovers our other 2 cats left behind when we fed them once a day, even when we tried to watch. Other 2 cats were normal weight and the vets tended to be very happy with our pets' health. She stayed chubby, but was well cared for. My family had a overweight rescue dog previously before I was born and were able to diet successfully, it can genuinely depend on the animal.

That owner from the heatstroke dog about the situation „its so upsetting!“ I felt a lot upsetting in the poor vet and team too, having to fight for to save that dogs life coz of the irresponsibility of the owners 😢. Ziggy the cat… no words 🙈 poor kitty! I loved how Jane started running with her dog, and replaced the treats to healthy veggies! Well done lady! Thats taking responsibility, and directly done a double good thing, reducing the dogs weight and putting healthy food into him! ❤

My Westie got grass seeds in his paws. They worked into his paw and I could feel the point on top of his paw. He hated having his feet fooled with. I pulled the seed through and out. He looked surprised and relieved. From there on, he allowed me to check out his feet.

As a dog groomer, every day I see overweight/obese dogs, and owners who are in complete denial. The most acceptance you'll get is "oh, well he is a little big... I guess it's too much love", when the poor 4 y/o dog can't even stand up on the table for a few minutes without collapsing under its own weight . You know it's an issue when you can't lift a pug! 🙃

I think over feeders were fed when upset as kids and as adults, when upset, they feed their pets. Same with kids that parents give cookies or other treats whenever they were upset instead of speaking with them. To have kids or pets, we should have to take classes on good healthy living

I have a question,. If a cat Ziggy's size loses enough weight, do veterinarians perform excessive skin removal surgery, like Dr. Nowzandra ( I don't remember how to spell his name) does with severely obese human patients who lose a significant amount of weight on TV?

I have a cat who had a tummy tuck. My husband's cat lost quite a bit of weight after my husband died. He wasn't eating well---he missed my husband. I finally got him to eat, and he stabilized. However, his tummy had a big flap of loose skin that looked like a cow udder. He had that removed, and looks and feels so much better. (Jan Griffiths).

@@douglasgriffiths3534 wow when I adopted my 4 year old cat (5 now) she was 19.8 pounds and morbidly obese according to the vet. She was supposed to be 8-10 pounds. I think I have her down to 13 pounds now after about a year and she’s still going, but already her loose skin is really excessive. Maybe she’ll get one 😂

hey vet doc...dog high temp...put the animal in icy water ...end of the high temp....things that vet school do not teach...

If you put them in icy water it cools them down too quickly and can cause just as much damage. You have to bring their temp down slowly 😊

You can't do that. Icy water would cause shock and possibly cardiac arrest. The temp. needs to b brought down in stages to prevent these things. People with heatstroke are treated the same. (Jan Griffiths).

@@douglasgriffiths3534 wrong!!!! cold water compresses...bathing one cup of cold water at the time...towels soak in cold water...no one is saying that u can plunge the poor animal in a tub full of ice...people on the other hand with very high temp is submerged in very icy water...we are talking alternatives here...but as some of us know...vets like to do the "expensive" route first and then see what happen...at the end the owners pay big $$$ for something that was not needed...
