They are all so beautiful. 😍 I can't decide which one I love most. Bought two 'Bronze Maiden' at Wichmann Orchids in March. as 'in 2 or three yesrs blooming size'. The smaler one does not much, is only growing a root very slowly. The other one had a growing leaf and pushed out a spike only one month after a purchased it. What a surprise! 🤗😃 It's in bloom now.

Hi Bumblebee! I guessed your Number 1 right! I even guessed the breaking news right! 😁 Actually I was introduced to this wonderful world of primary hybrids thanks to you, especially your earliest dozen of spotlight videos on them, which I have watched so many times over the years. I am sorry to hear the death of your original plant. But it’s great schwerter is reintroducing it. Actually I already bought three from them in August, since they are seedlings and I was not sure if I could grow them well till they mature and bloom. Incidentally, I found out yesterday that my local nursery Orchidarium has this hybrid as well and it is blooming. Oh my... Maybe I will go and get one tomorrow. It is hard to resist, really. Anyway, thank you for such a wonderful video full of orchid eye candies. Have a great weekend ahead!
@bumblebeesorchids34085 жыл бұрын
Haha, congratulations! :) I fear the breaking news weren't as new anymore, but I was just so excited. I must watch your latest Orchidarium video this weekend. I need to know if you got the blooming one. Maybe it looks different from those in Schwerte so that you get some variety. I think Schwerte's seedlings should be blooming size in one or two years. The ones I got look happy and healthy, so we might end up with a bunch of mature plants in a couple of years. Have a wonderful autumnal weekend ahead. :)
@junsorchids3005 жыл бұрын
Bumblebee Well, for those who don’t check schwerter’s website every day like I do, it is definitely breaking news. 😁 Unfortunately I didn’t manage to grab the blooming one. Apparently someone else was ahead of me. Orchidarium only had one in bloom and it was sold immediately. But I did get two blooming-sized Phal. Bronze Maiden. So now I have three seedlings and two mature plants. I think they were all grown from seeds. So let’s see how different their flowers will be. It will be very interesting to compare.

Lovely video, thanks for making it. I'm sad that you lost your lovely maiden bronze, i thought the good news is that you got one from Schwerter, but I saw their ones are very tiny! Hope you'll find a mature one soon. I really like the storbtiana hybrid (the one with yellow and red blooms). Thanks again for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
@bumblebeesorchids34085 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mary. I think Schwerte's Bronze Maidens might be blooming size in one or two years, so I won't look out for a mature one. The stobartiana x bastianii refuses to bloom at the moment, but it's a great primary hybrid when it blooms, indeed. :D Happy growing and have a wonderful weekend!

Definitly a sad thing followed by exciting news. Your favourite really deserves the honours. I learned to love Phal species and primary hybrids with you. We learn and acquire good tastes with good examples 😀. But also, before I became interested in orchids I made a surveil of the wild flowers in the area where I live which I published in my blog. I became fascinated by those humble little flowers, their colours and strategies. In some way Phals species and primary hybrids are connected to them in my mind. Still have very few but everytime I find them I get them. I sort of gave up ordering on line because mail expenses to my country come to about 30 euros and very often orchids are in bad conditions. But maybe I Will make and exception this time 😀 Happy weekend Bumblebee.

Oh my. How can I possibly pick any one of these beauties over the other. I loved them all. We had a show a couple of weeks ago and Tenshing Gardens came to Australia with heaps of flasks. I’d already bought one in Kuching, but I ended buying another 4. Previously I’ve had zero success raising flask babies, but this time I seem to be doing a better job, and hopefully I will be able to raise most of them on to maturity. I live in hope.

I chose a Bronze Maiden seedling when I was at Schwerer in August. Many plants looked strong and my friend told me as far as he has seen from this cross, it is quite stable so you dont have to worry about getting a plant that will not look how you like it . I think my favourite primary that I bloomed or could see is Phal Valentinii. It has amazing scent and it is very floriferous. Im very excited for my Phal Rare Delight (maculata x gigantea) to bloom at some point but so far I think Valentinii has been all around the best one.
@lynnbrooks55035 жыл бұрын
I am so glad to have seen this post. I recently bought a flask of Valentinii. They are doing well and I hope to get them to the point where I can recover my costs and hopefully make a little profit on them. I am so looking forward to having a blooming size plant.

@@lynnbrooks5503 Colour will depend on what colour the parents had but its usually. Form changes a LOT with conditions, I got my first one that was very like cornu-cervi in the greenhouse but at my house shape is much more like violacea. Both years I got one, the WHOLE batch was in bloom, so Id say its a pretty floriferous plant and they dont need to be huge to bloom. They love warm to hot temps for optimal growth and blooming and good light :)

Rare Delight isn't as slow as my gigantea has been. Have a very nice autumnal weekend! :)

Have you ever done a video showing how you water your phals ? I would love to see it. Also, how many days they stay dry on average between waterings? You are so successful growing phals and I want to learn from you. Do you soak the plants, just run water through? You say you are a lazy waterer, but I suspect that might be part of the secret to your success. I’m doing something wrong with my species phals and I want to see what you do. Thank you!!
@bumblebeesorchids34085 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've ever done a video on watering my Phals. About a year ago I changed my watering routine to bottom watering. In the past I placed them in a decorative pot with water and soaked them for a couple of hours - one after another. They liked it, but it was quite a hassle and I postponed watering so that they stayed dry for quite some time between waterings (minimum 7 days up to 14 days). I hope that helps. But I'll keep it in mind and might include some thoughts in a video one day. Happy growing! :)
