Standard Vs. Novelty Phalaenopsis Orchids

Today we talk a bit about a special group of Phalaenopsis orchids which happen to be my favorites!

According to the AOS www.aos.org/orc... the Phalaenopsis can be separated into 5 subgeneras. The one that we are interested in is Polychilos.

The novelty hybrids are crosses in between or with these species. They give out a lot more color, substance and fragrance! The color of these orchids is not fading away, like in most standard Pghalaenopsis and the shades are vibrant!
Standard Phalaenopsis are the ones we find in flower shops and garden centers, but not only. They don;t usually have a perfumey fragrance, they produce big and numerous flowers which lack a vivid color. many times the colors can fade as the flowers age.
