The alternator is a quick job. It can be rebuilt. A voltage regulator should fix it, but the slip rings show wear and should have a rear rotor replacement in my exp on top of the VR. The water pump should work w just a gasket but it's cheap for a german pump. But also replace upper radiator hose and the tank vent hoses especially the tee hose to the cylinder heads. Not just valve covers, but timing covers upper. And pcv valves on top of the covers depending on year and pcv design. Usually transmission just needs solenoid kit plus all internal gaskets (4 tube seals optional, but replace the sleeve and the adapter rectangular 2 port plastic w rubber gasket). And filter pan. Alternator bracket gasket leak. Replace with URO parts gasket made of Viton in my opinion. Not done yet? Coolant leak from transfer pipe cam occur. Uro and AGA sell a telescopic coolant pipe to avoid mega surgery. Still not enough for you? Smoking at idle. Valve stem seals all 32 of em. AGA sells a kit engine in the car to do it but I'd awkward and time consuming. If you made it that far you should have a good running 550. The tensioner can also chirp like a bird. It's a maintenance hungry engine but the engine doesn't fail really other than nobody wants to fix it anymore. Oh and oil pressure switch. Loves to leak. And give low oil pressuee warnings. 10 bucks and easy. Oh... and the vacuum pump leaks oil too... easy to get to. Lol.
