I have a 2009 Nissan Murano SL. Had it for 3 years now and still drives like new. Only had oil changes and tires done on it. Has almost 180000 miles on it. I love it and plan on driving it for years to come. Its been the best vehicle I have ever had.

I've had my 2009 SL Murano since 2018 and I've had a long list of issues but not a single one on this list. I just thought I'd be curious to see if what I went through was common or not lol. The thousands we spent fixing up my Murano in two years went mostly into repairs from neglect. As I tell everyone looking at cars or anyone interested in Muranos: it's all about how you treat your car! Since I've fixed up mine, I absolutely love it! It's a very luxurious SUV for its age and I wouldn't trade it for anything else... Except maybe a new Murano.. But I can't afford new cars so there you go lol. The CVTs are nothing to be scared of, they run just like your usual automatic transmission. It's just belts instead of gears, so you don't get that traditional shifting noise in a CVT. It's a lot smoother! If you find a very well cared for Murano and love it, go for it!

I got my 2009 Murano in 2014 and it only had 55000 miles on it. I took the thing up to 100 thousand and all of a sudden things started breaking all over the place. The windshield. The radiator. The steering rack. The drivers door latch. The liftgate latch. The radio and fan knobs. The oil cooler gasket. And a couple other things. I don't think I'll purchase another Murano. Based on what I've read they werent really designed with longevity and most people experience issues at 100 thousand miles. Also that CVT fluid is expensive. A transmission fluid change is over 300 dollars.

Always appreciate the enthusiasm, high quality video/sound, and simple explanations. My 2007 Murano SL just reached 105K this month. My only problems so far are the seat rails (needing lube) and throttle body needing cleaning. Otherwise getting 22mpg around town (AC off) and 24.5mpg highway (at constant 65mph, AC off) using only regular unleaded gas (Shell, Mobil, BP, Exxon) using GumOut Regane PEA fuel treatment every other fill up. Running full synthetic oil & premium oil filter, oil changes every 3K miles. Local dealer checks CVT fluid for possible metal shavings before doing a low pressure transmission flush (they have a kit) purging all used CVT fluid with new fluid every 30K miles. It costs $248 out the door. Worth the peace of mind. As the saying goes: An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Keep up the great content!!

great video. I had a different problem than you guys did, with my 2009 Murano. The drivers door latch was not activating. Took it to Nissan, they wanted 468 dollars for a new interior and exterior lock. Labor was extra. They replaced the lock mechanism. Still had the same problems with the handle not opening the latch. Took it back, they disassembled the door again. Said it was something else causing the problem. Apparently theres a string and a ball which activates the door latch and it needed to be tightened. Was not broken, just loose. They tightened it for me and sent me home. A day later I realized they charged me a buttload of money to fix something that was not broken. I know a little more about doors, and a lot more about dealerships. (for reference my local AAA approved mechanic could not figure out the door latch problem at all)

my dad has had his 2011 Nissan murano (2nd generation? Just like this one) he bought the car brand new and has 200k miles on it now. He's never had a single issue with the car. Regular oil changes with the cheapest 5W-30 oil he could find exactly every 5k miles (as recommended) instead of every 6months because he drove ALOT. He averaged almost exactly 20k miles a year all electrics, his premium Bose sound system still sounds like a live concert inside and yea he has had zero problems. He had a 100 point inspection done because it was free once when he got an oil change at around 120k miles and everything was PERFECT oh and I changed the front brake pads for him at around 80k miles when the metal to metal started sounding while breaking and again at around 150k miles. Funny thing to he does wash it regularly but has never had it waxed or polished and the paint in every single spot including the roof shines like brand spanking new. ( thank God they put a good amount of clear coat on) I live in California where the rain has a ton of acid and it snows where we are and the summers reach 110 degrees ferenhenheit. My brother owns a 2008 Nissan maxima and same story. These Nissans will go to 300k miles easily with regular maintenance. I'd say they are neck and neck with Toyota for reliability amd cheap cost to own TOP NOTCH "SIMPLE "BIG" ENGINEERING. ask anybody that actually owns a Nissan and hear it 1st hand when you see an old one.at the gas station ask them nicely and friendly and look at their odometer. Ask them the year and even look at the Condition of the paint. Oh and we don't have a garage big enough to park inside. They've been outside in the elements their whole lives. I CANT BELIEVE I WROTE THIS MUCH ABOUT A COMPANY THAT DOESNT PAY ME. BUT ACTUALLY THEY HAVE PAID MY FAMILY BIG TIME IN MONEY SAVED AND NO STRESS FOR THEIR RELIABLE CARS! THANK YOU NISSAN!! TOYOTA IS #5 LARGEST AUTOMAKER IN THE WORLD AMD NISSAN #6. THEIRS GOOD REASON FOR THAT:)

Even the cheapest oils all pass api rating sj since 1997 and even dollar general oil has same ratings equal to most other more expensive options in reality only a few oils are truly better then others for different reasons besides rating usually. But people waste money buying expensive oil most of the time for normal vehicles and normal use especially. As your dad did proper maintenance consistently is what keeps things working long as they can best they can but that’s just common sense to me and apparently your old man too.

Great video. I do find it hilarious that Nissan knew they had a huge problem with the driver's seat brackets breaking in the G1 Murano (like mine did!) so they did absolutely nothing about it in G2. Then, when the customers got loud enough about the issue, how did they address it in G3 Muranos? They pushed the center console and door plastic to squeeze inwards in the hopes that it mean less heavy people would fit in the car and not buy it! So, instead of spending a few bucks more on better metal, they spent a few bucks on plastic to sell less cars by eliminating the tall and heavy driver! Brilliant!!!

Most of the Murano issues that I have seen have nothing to do with maintenance. Here’s my list: high pressure power steering hose leaks, camshaft sensors, front struts, coil packs, radiator fan assembly, etc.

Years ago I had a girlfriend who drove an old AMC car that had the reclining front seat that lay down flat for camping. The mechanism was busted so when you accelerated or braked the bench seat reclined all the way. Not very safe, but tons of fun on a date!! I later had a Mercury Capri withabusted sliding mechanism--the seat would tilt back with acceleration or braking. It could have been solved with a new bolt--but the dealer refused to look up the part--too minor, too busy. I built a '35 Ford pickup truck, but not having a flathead engine, I got a Pinto engine with the same horspower, and its transmission. I had to fabricate motor mounts, so I used angle iron--and laboratory rubber stoppers. Worked great!

I have taken off several electric throttle bodies. Moved the flaps all the time and cleaned them. Installed and zero issues. Even on BMWs and Minis. Long as the throttle body is NOT CONNECTED to power, you can move the flap because itll always return to almost closed position which is right before idle start up.

Always love 1A Auto videos... We picked up a 2010 Mo for our daughter last year with 115k on it. Its up to 127k on it now and it has the occasional Murano acceleration hesitation issue (no CVT codes so yay!). Have all service records showing all fluids being changed on time. I bought mine used in 09 with 12k miles. I recently noticed the seat problem but nothing else on your list. I twice had to replace the engine exhaust pipes that attaches under the motor. My shop spot welded the exhaust muffler to the bracket about 5 years ago. I know have 93k use it as a second car especially in the winter. The AWD works great. The motor is very quiet unlike my 07 Maxima that had the timing chain problem.

I have 2009 Nissan Murano stalled twice one on highway and other in city while driving. Towed to mechanic they couldn't find a clue, inspected battery, alternator, transmission, engine, took for drive. Everything seemed okay. Not sure but I think it could be electrical or battery issue (battery dying faster or not holding up charge). One thing common in both stalls it happened was raining. This is my second one, first one I had was 2012 model year and had issues in winter last year while start with hissing noise and had 5 mechanics inspected (with 3 mobile mechanics) on that and none of them what was wrong. That's the main issue with these vehicles when everyone is guessing on issues like electrical, fuel pump, starter, battery, exhaust/cat converter but it turned out be ice buildup in exhaust so my mechanic drilled couple of holes so water can drip off (simple fix) but I ended spending $1200 for 5 mechanic inspections and one whom I towed to said it was problem with some sensor MAF i believe it was and charged whooping $500 and did nothing.

I've had control arm shocks strucks bushings sway bar all replaced. I have 2012 Nissan murano awd SL, had breaks roaters changed and its still making noise i don't know what else to do and tired of spending so much money on this suv. It sounds like i have muffler issues i was told convertors then told sensors.

I change the oil every 4-5k miles. I am thinking i should change the trans fluid & filter as a PM as well as radiator fluid. Mostly because then i know its done and possibly head off problems. Also is there a timing belt oŕ chain? I cant find that info.

I have tightened and checked all the hose connections as well as someone cleaned out the exhaust manifold. And it doesn't correct the problem. It feels like the vehicle is breathing right and tight hot air pushes out screw holes around the intake manifold cover. Replacing the screws also doesn't help. What would cause the air exchange to be under so much pressure and cause the engine to shudder like it's about to fail and the engine fails when needing to go up a hill slowly. Most mechanics don't want to do any work with it and cite that there will always be issues with Nissan Murano. The code machine only says multiple misfires despite changing all spark plugs and boots.

So I'm driving in my 2010 Nissan murano, and as I just had started it up I hear this timing chain ticking. So I Googled Nissan problems and this video was the one that came up. And it was like the third or fourth thing that you pointed out tends to go wrong. Appreciate your input and advice is now I'm absolutely sure what needs to be done. I need to drive it off of a cliff

Best suggestion for these Nissan's with CVT transmissions is to NOT take them to quick lube places. Have your CVT tranny fluid changed every 50k only with Nissan cvt fluid. Dealer is the best bet.

I have been using Valvoline synthetic CVT fluid in my Nissan for years. Much cheaper than Nissan’s fluid. I heard that some Nissan dealers use Valvoline CVT fluid to save money.

I have a 2009 Nissan Murano and it bucks when it gets cold and snows or rains. The car shop can't figure it out. They've put in a new battery, new spark plugs. It helped for 2 weeks. Then when it snowed again, it started bucking again. They checked the abs and it was fine, they found a small leak in the air inlet tube. They sealed it and it stopped it.... now 1 week later, it snowed and I even had it in the garage, but it started bucking again. It runs fine when it's warm out though. They are thinking transmission, but the fluid is good, no leaks... I'm at a loss. Also, it sways in the back when hitting bumps, but the sway bar is good and the shocks are brand new. Why is that?

Nissan CVTs do not have a good reputation. What are the Murano CVTs like? I used to own a 2.5L 1st gen that had a normal automatic. (It was a grey market import from Japan) I'm keen to get a 2nd gen because I loved driving the 1st gen.

He does say the word "vehicle" with an odd "r" in there lol! But it really just adds to the character :-) He even makes a concerted effort to incorporate hand movement. So he really is try to put on a great video and I applaud him for it. Thumb's up all the way.

As soon as I heard it, I had to scour the comment section to make sure I wasn't the only one hearing it. I guess it's one of those words that people like to add a "r" to for some reason. Like when ppl say, "warsh your hands." My buddies mom said Toilet with a "r", she says, "torlet"

Well shuck's, I was hoping you would list what causes the 2009 Nissan Murano battery to go dead, after 3 batteries, alternator checked good, it will jump start right up, and may be fine for 1 month, or 3 months, then the same thing. Any suggestions? Good video points. Thanks, John G.

Sounds like you have bad wiring. If it’s skinny or squashed. Make sure the metal connector is good and not bent either. Replace it by cutting the wire and connecting it to the new battery connector you can buy.

It's only a "common failure" because most people won't take care of their cars. CVTs are not any better or worse than any other transmissions. I've had my 2009 Murano for a few years and spent thousands fixing it but I've never had an issue with the transmission! It runs beautifully since I've been giving it regular maintenance like every car needs. Aka fluid changes and rotating wheels.

Alternator going bad. My 2009 did that as well! If the alternator isn't charging enough, even if it's off by a miniscule volts, it won't be enough to run everything properly. It should be charging at 13.4 V. My alternator failed at 13.2 volts and every single light in and outside the car would flicker like a weird power surge. I had my alternator replaced and problem solved!

I need help with my CVT for my 2009 murano. Some service centers tell me I do not have a filter and there is no pan to drop while other tell me there is but they do not do it. Of course, no information or facts are known or asked about my vehicle prior to them telling me this. It is awful. So, is there a filter and pan and do they need to be cleaned out and changed when the fluid is changed. My vehicle has 207,000 miles and has not had this done for almost 100,000. thanks

I have an 09 SL Murano with a CVT. There is a filter, its just hard to get to. With that many miles, if the car isn't showing any serious transmission symptoms, I would honestly just leave it alone. Mine has 183k on it and I've changed the CVT fluid ever 20k miles but thats about all I've done. Still drives great
