07 Prius. 230,000+ miles. Bought it at 70,000 miles. Brakes (once), rear shocks, battery ($600 refurbished), headlights, tires and oil changes. That's it. Still getting 50 mpg. Incredible.

2006 inverter water pump failed at 180k. Got a replacement at local auto parts store on Sunday night and replaced it in less than an hour Monday morning. Wasn't even late for work. Used small long nose vise grips to clamp off the coolant hoses and didn't lose any coolant. Now I'm diagnosing another Red Triangle of Death for some kind of fuel or MAS problem.

this prius actually the best gen prius ever made if take care of it, all problem you mention it’s way easy to fix it compare the 3 and 4 gen with the head gasket

I confirm that CVT transmission fluid replacement is usefull. I do this operation every 50k Miles with oem ATF-WS and warm engine to be sure to drain it correctly. The car is smoother to drive and the transition EV/ICE is way better. 2007 gen2 prius with 200.000Miles, the best ever from HSD toyota's 😊

If the cluster goes black you can do a chicken dance to reset the electrical system, there are vids on it.

I bought the Toyota Factory 3-way valve from ebay. It was a Knock-Off. And went very bad soon after replacing. It started leaking out a vent, on the electronic side. ONLY BUY A REAL TOYOTA FACTORY PART ON THIS ONE. i noticed it, added coolant to get a new part and home. Great car, i never thought I'd be a Prius owner.

Honestly, I have never seen this car with any significant transmission damage. Toyota even claims that the fluid in the transmission is lifetime. Unfortunately, that isn't true, and you should definitely change the transmission fluid, not sure about 30k miles as you can definitely change it without issue every 60k to 80k. I've seen Prius taxis with nearly 500k miles that had the fluid changed once. These cars are notoriously unattractive but TANKS if you treat them well.

In love with my reliable Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. Bought new for 25K in 10/2007. It mainly garage kept and in excellent shape. Original Battery perhaps due to less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections? Also it’s not pushed going up large hills and high acceleration is minimized. Cleaned hybrid battery fan with an added cleanable filter screen at the air intake. Also easy on the battery in hot weather. Added front and rear running lights and a brighter break light. The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself by feeling my way with my hand and did not have to take the bumper off. They are much brighter than the originals. Replace the 12V battery twice. New water pump and drive belt. New left front bearing. 2 New PVC valve replacements. Fix a leak in the air-conditioning system. Replaced the front breaks once. Sometimes the dash lights go out 3 times a year when the weather gets cold. They will go back on within 50 miles of driving. Heard it’s cold solder joints or capacitor on the electronics? Went 65 K on the stock tires. Then 90K with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better with a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 50+ MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED and a sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed with great cargo capacity. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. The beautiful large dash display is ahead of its time with sharp graphics like a space ship. Ran out of gas, and a whole dashboard lit up including the triangle of death (indicates serious malfunction - do something now!). Fortunately filled up 1/2 mile away before the battery became too low. Never again!! It’s an adventure reliable stealth vehicle that slips through the air quietly! It does well in snow with the upgraded traction control, but has a ground clearance 0f 5.6 inches. The electric motors distribute Torque more easily which is better for snow. It has the best smooth styling of all the model years. Definitely a incognito James Bond vehicle with secret abilities never to be underestimated. So watch out!!! Soon it will become a classic antique with appreciating value.

You skip the two gauge problems having to be tech fixed you can fix both from home. The black display cluster can be fixed by opening the door, putting in accessory mode by pushing the start button without holding the brake. Hold the climate button and turn the headlight switch on and off until the door adjourne symbol appears. Close the door and start the car as normal. The fuel gauge reset you can do by turning the car on and pressing the ODO Trip button until you get to Trip A. Turn the vehicle off. Keep foot off the brake, press and hold the ODO Trip button. Press the Power button twice. Release and press ODO Trip button three times and hold. Wait until the odometer displays six digits. Release ODO Trip button, then press and hold again. The odometer will change to five digits. The third digit will quickly change to a one and release the ODO Trip button and it will reset.

Toyota states that the transmission fluid/lubricant never needs to be replaced - for the life of the vehicle. I know of people who have driven 350k highway miles without transmission problems. I have drained and replaced my transmission fluid/oil twice and my repair facility refused to do so a third time. No more fun :( They did not discuss the touch screen failing. This is a real problem since operating the ventilation system and keeping the windshield clear is a state requirement.

My 2007 Prius had the display module problem with was fix with a 15 cents capacitor. The inverter coolant pump failed at 169k. There was a Toyota recall for this but I did not spend the time at the dealer. Other than that, the 12V battery got changed every so often, did the brakes at 230k (not that the pad were worn but I was tired of checking it so I got them replaced). The maintenance is very minimal compared with other cars. The catalytic converter got stolen 3 times though.

Replaced a capacitor on the instrument cluster and dark screen with starting problems went away. My mechanic refused to do it so I did it myself
