As for the mattress, we also had a topper but due to angle of roof line Jim had even less room by window. I decided to trade out for the padded mattress cover in guest bedroom. Jim now has more room and we don’t feel the divides of the three pads. ... also our guests will enjoy the extreme comfort of the new bedding in the guest room.

That is definitely a problem.....the thicker the mattress topper, the less head space on the inside position.

I love our T@B except for the kitchen sink. I really miss our other T@B QMax sink which was covered with a butcher block insert. This one with the unremovable glass cover has caused us problems and now carry a separate cutting board. I had messaged you back in early June about how we accidentally flooded our T@B on our very first night out on our very first trip. Simply because the faucet arm was in up position when one of us lowered the glass cover. Although we were hooked up to water, we were not hooked up to sewer so our gray tank filled up and overflowed up through shower drain flooding the floor of T@B😖 I had contacted you to see if anyone else had mentioned this happening. I guess we are the only ones😝 It will never happen again because I am now very vigilant at checking and rechecking. But if I could change one thing, I would definitely replace that sink. Even if it had not flooded our T@B, I hate that the glass cover has to stay connected...would be nice for Dometic to make it removable.
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 6 жыл бұрын
I do remember you messaging me about your flood. We haven't had any issues with it ourselves and haven't heard of anyone else either but I could see how that could happen. I wonder if you could permanently remove the glass top and have a wooden cutting board made for it?

I would like to know about how you go about planning your trip - especially a long one. Do you make reservations? What happens if you don't make it to the campsite you reserved because of bad weather or road problems? Have you ever had a situation where there were no campsites available anywhere and what did you end up doing? I'm thinking of a long road trip where I just wander to wherever I feel like going but I'm wondering if that is not very realistic? What are your thoughts?
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 6 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a great idea for a future video! But I won't make you wait for it. We prefer to not make reservations if possible on long trips so we have flexibility. I do map out the route and find WalMarts ahead of time to stay at for travel days. I also like to have an idea of what our camping options are before we get there. You do need to consider the time of the year and how busy it will be. For instance, we didn't make reservations this summer except for the week of the 4th of July because we knew finding a campsite that week would be very hard. All of the other weeks though, we just made it up as we went. Also, if you are doing that, you want to start stopping early in the day in case your first choice is full. We tried to stop no later than 4:00pm. Most campgrounds will not let you cancel the day of your trip regardless of the reason which is why I prefer not to make reservations.

I have seen one in person and was impressed. It is expensive so I wonder how it compares with the competition. For example, the teardrop shape sacrifices space but helps make it roadworthy. It has clever design features but they cost you. Do you think a Tab brand is absolutely necessary? Thanks if you’re still responding.

Is the dinette comfortable? I would want to sit there to work on my computer sometimes. Also, since you have it set up to the couch configuration, covering up the table, where do you eat? I imagine if the weather is bad, you could just have a lightweight portable table inside?

With regard to towing, I just towed my Tab400 across Nebraska and Missouri with heavy winds. The owner’s manual on my VW Atlas says both sway bars and weight distribution hitches are strictly verboten. (They May cause the hitch to come off the car). So I had no sway control and no trouble. Once or twice, when the winds really gusted, I noticed the force; but the trailer never really started to sway at all. So I think an SUV with a 5,000 lb. capacity and a decent wheelbase should be fine without the extras. For what it’s worth... Just my experience.

Great video! Thanks for all you are doing. Very informative! Can you tell me, if you take off the back cushions, how wide and long is the dinette bed? I have a son who is pushing 5'10" (yikes!) and not sure if this bed will give him enough space to be comfortable.

That dinette when in bed mode is 27" wide at the narrowest point but actually gets wider at both ends. The length from wall to wall is 74". My nephew has spent about 7 nights on it and hasn't had any issues and he is about 6'0" tall.

Hi Patrick, can you elaborate more about “weight distribution”? What does it mean? Also...I think I saw (3:42) what seems like a lock on your trailer, which one did you purchase? As always, Thanks again for the informative video.
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 6 жыл бұрын
A weight distribution hitch transfers tongue weight off your tow vehicle and redistributes it to your trailer. This is usually done with bars that attach to your hitch and trailer. The lock was just a cheap one that I picked up at Mendards last year for the Hummingbird. It came as a set with locks for the ball, pin and hitch. All use the same key which is nice.
@arthurleslie9669
@arthurleslie9669 6 жыл бұрын
The weight distribution actually distributes the weight across both the tow vehicle and trailer. It eases the situation by spreading some of the tongue weight off the rear axle of the tow vehicle and onto the front axle, as well as the axle (or axles) of the trailer. With that leverage, everything balances out and driving performance increases dramatically.

@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 5 жыл бұрын
We actually have some battery operated LED puck lights that we installed using Command Velcro. We like them as they are less harsh of a light and work great in the evenings. Plus by operating off 3 AAA batteries, we are not using the battery on board the trailer.

Nice trailer and helpful info for anyone looking at the T@B. Do you know if Nucamp has anything to say regarding weight distributing hitches and the T@B 400 either pro or con? Thanks for my Monday T@B content!
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, NuCamp hasn't taken a position on it. The main issue is that with the C channel frame, you are limited on the type of weight distribution you can run on it. Our old weight distribution system wouldn't work with the 400 because of the frame. I did see someone running one of those all in one WD/Sway systems on a 400 at our rally last month.

Hi Patrick, Enjoy your videos. We're interested in the Nucamp 400 (I'm 6ft 4 and can't stand up in the smaller NuCamps). We would need to purchase an SUV to tow the unit which we plan to use as our 2nd vehicle. Can a mid-size SUV with 5,000lb tow capacity tow a NuCamp 400 or would we need a larger vehicle?
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! We towed our T@B 400 with a Toyota 4Runner which had a 5000# tow capacity and had no issues with it. Our friends who bought our 400 are towing with a Highlander which is also rated for 5000# however it really sags. In that case, you’d need to look at either weight distribution or maybe airbags on the vehicle.

Think your channel and reviews on the tab400 very helpful. The bed area looks claustrophobic andnot a lot of twist and turn in night to get comfortable. May I ask what both Patty & your heights are? For bed length. Nicely made, always compromises.

Hi Patrick....just a few more questions please.....does your 4runner have a V6? Are you happy with the way it goes the 400? How does the 400 do in high winds on the road and in camp? Thanks for your time😉🙂
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 6 жыл бұрын
Yes...the 4Runner does have a V6 in it and does a great job of pulling the 400. Regardless of the terrain, it has plenty of power. The wind really has not bother the 400 when towing. In terms of when its parked, the 4 stabilizers do a good job of keeping it steady. When possible, I try to position the trailer in really windy weather parallel with the wind such as at a Walmart. Hope that helps

How is towing the Tab 400 with a 4Runner? Plenty of power? Gas mileage? Handling? Thanks!
@TravelswithDelaney

We love the 4Runner for towing our NuCamp Tab 400. With the V6 engine, we have more than enough power even when we went out west through the Rockies and Cascades. It also has plenty of braking. We averaged 11.6 mpg this summer over the 7000 mile trip to the Pacific Northwest. I do use a friction sway bar and have had no issues with sway even then semi's pass me at higher rates of speed. We did install the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System ($250) on the 4Runner which helped to level out the 4Runner when towing.
