I can play solid 4nl poker for millions of hands no problem with 10-15 buyin swings.. The moment I go to 10nl and I lose 5-10 buyins in a session I go bananas and tilt it all away on the highest stakes. I just can't cope with swings that are $100+. The good thing is I don't play scared money on let's say 400nl bc I play in bb's. The bad thing is BRM :))))) I've been playing poker since 2007, and I've never managed playing higher stakes for longer than a couple of months before spewing it away. So basically I'm just grinding 4nl most of the time for a 15bb/100 winrate (with the stupidly high rake included) and people calling me a nutcase not moving up. Everytime I do I just tilt it all away sooner or later. Same goes with tourneys, $2-$5 tourney's no problem, $10+ and I tilt after 15-25bi swing.

Mr. Carrel: You are larger than life. It is amazing for a young chap, at your age, to have understood so much about human behaviour. I play cards for character training, especially when my brain is threatened/challenged by the Psychological Effect of Risk Taking (PERT). In a broader term, when you are wearing a white tux at a wedding. A heavy set lady bummed you and spill red wine all over you. Common courtesy, "EXCUSE ME" when you really mean "WTF???" I used to be a hot blooded, selfish, calculating, person. 25 years of character training (playing cards), I have become a much better person. I couldn't have summarized the process like how you did. You are transforming people into better individuals, via playing cards, one youtube posting at a time. THANK YOU. Fan from Canada

Hi Charles ! i enjoy all you're videos, i just would like to say i have been playing online poker for around 15 years and twice i tried using a H U Display and it was awful because my computer screen looked like a Boeing 757 cockpit instrument panel lol ! so for 14 and 3'4 years i just use my brain and have a winning record at WPN, i never use gto or any poker strategy by others selling their so called win with my plan ! LOL my gut instinct and my brain win more often then not. i will say i would have millions by now if it weren't for so many bad beats to a weaker hand. i'm still up in $ but nowhere near what it should be. my favorite game is HORSE and PLO but at WPN they don't have any HORSE games so i stay with PLO and PLO8 followed by NL HOLD EM. am i one of the few that play great without a H U DISPLAY ? or a coach? i am self taught and always learn by my mistakes ! and yes i only play micro stakes and only a few mid stakes a week just to dip my toes in the water at a higher buy-in from time to time. being from USA i don't have many poker site options. UGH :)..but now WPN has phil ivey and tom dwan is drawing in more players and with ivey owning part of poker king i have a bad gut feeling because he has been busted twice for cheating people out of $ so i think it makes WPN look bad but i hope I'm wrong and i hope he is a changed man and i hope he wants to do the right thing now ? p.s. my bankroll at micro stakes allows me for a few hundred buy-ins LOL :) i stay at micro's because i dread the down swings even though i am a winning player. take care Charlie have a nice day and better tomorrows...

Got question about the bankroll management,say i play 5nl and build it to $200 no is time to move to 10nl but if i play 2 tables at once loosing 3 buyins might happen very quickly and we go down without even taken a proper shot.Does this rule applies to one tabling only or it doesn't matter?do we need to have 25 buy ins if we play 2 tables?Hope that makes sense.Thanks
@ManitoRakos3 жыл бұрын
If you want to apply 20bi rule to your brl then when you lose 2 or 3 bins,even in one minute, you go play 5nl again until you have 200 and move up 10nl When you make it 500 go 25nl etc

Those are some great tips. I do need to work on 2-4 ^^ number 5 took me years and I still take unhealthy shots sometimes. I was going ok, but decided 6max zoom was a better long term game to play, than 9max/full ring cash, because of the lack of players on static tables at the site I play. However, at 10NL with a 200 dollar bankroll, I was meeting aggressive Donkeys and LAG'S mixed with a calling station on a majority of hands. If I decided to call down with top pair or 2 pair for example, I got drawn out on every time or run into a set. If I became aggressive, I would just throw my money at them and they draw out or have a set, or top pair that beat me. So i dropped down to 5NL with 50dollars left. Now it's similar but people are landing more hands, because a good few are playing a 40%+ range. If I raise it to 4bb they still call to see a flop and often I get drawn out on. I tried opening for 2BB and do so more often, but not sure how that's going. I've considered trying to open for 5-6BB, but then I am just asking to run into only strong hands? Also tried being passive, but when I get a hand I can't get them to pay me off past the flop or turn. And then if I bet, they fold. The best session I had before busting out, I was running 3 x 5nl "zoom" tables, opening a 20-30% range, betting into everyone at least once. sometimes against 2-3 players if the pot was small. Barrelling against low vpip's etc One of my tables at the end of a few hours had over 1000BB I'm considering going back to maniac play. I'm just concerned that was one lucky session and either way overall, I'm fucked lol I wonder too, should I just give up trying to play "real poker" against these guys showing up with 42O or k6O, and instead only open with pocket pairs, fold if there are 2 or more overcards on the board and I have no set? Sometimes i think to beat the low stakes you have to lower your winrate and only play AA KK for stacks. It's like the lower i go in stakes, the worse any hand i play will do. And at higher stakes (I've played up to 100NL) my cards don't matter as much as how much I'm willing to bet to get someone to fold or how much I'm willing to call with just top pair. Don't expect an answer by the way. i realize there is no simple answer. Just blowing some steam :)

Yeah, and I'd like to add an aspect to bankroll management. I've been doing really great at my level the last couple of weeks, 40-45 % ROI in midfield tournaments. Just crushing. And then it's a friday night and you go "Fuck it, my rule is 100 buyin but hell i know i can crush this one and it's just 5x my normal buyin.. Just this once.." And I did crush, came 7/300 but ran into a cooler, flopped flush over flush or something, 1/50 shit you just can't get away from. Lost a huge stack. And you know, I wasn't tilt, it was actually insane how I crushed these supposedly much better players. But the rush, and then go back to the grind next day, and you just think about almost winning those 166 buyins last night.. You lose the hunger. So I'm gonna stick to the bankroll management and just maximize every dollar out of every level. When the time is right the time is right.
