Oh, now this could be interesting. After 50 years working for the US Navy, I finally retired less than a month ago. Looking forward to moving to the Vancouver area early after the last big snowfall, next year 2024. We won't be rich, but I've got the strangest feeling than you are able to help and high hopes, that we are able to find a nice place on the edge of "town" that we can afford. (Besides, I was born in Vancouver, why not be like a salmon and move back up river where I started from?)

Hi 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 congrats on retiring and thank you for your service. My father was in the Navy in Vietnam and many of my family still serve in other branches of the military so I know what their service meant to them and I’m sure you. Thank you 🙏🏻 I hope the past month has been full of relaxing and activities that bring you joy. I would be honored to help you return to your home stomping grounds. When you are ready let’s jump on a call or Zoom and chat about your retirement plans for Vancouver 🙌🏻 so we can find you the perfect place. 😁 503-884-2387 Cassandra@realtorcas.com

Thank you!! I’m glad I was able to help out. I know my MIL is approaching retirement and she had a lot of questions so I figured she wasn’t the only one.

Umm, no! We just left the Vancouver riverfront. Way too many homeless breaking into cars and condos. Good luck with that!

Vancouver is more than the waterfront. The city is working on the homeless challenges way more than it’s counterpart across the river. There is so much more to do but they are trying.

Did you live in the downtown waterfront or visited? When I visited I didn’t see any homeless at the waterfront. I did see just a few at Esther Short Park but it wasn't excessive and nothing like Seattle or Portland.

@@nutritioncoachjo Lived there for many years, just moved to Idaho. Sure its not as bad as Seattle or SF, but it's much smaller! We got tired of them wandering our street and breaking into cars. Go look behind city hall, along Pearson airfield perimeter, or along the riverfront beaches of the Columbia between the I-5 bridge and Mcmenamins. You'll see tents, garbage, and needles.

@@jb-cp4ye Yes, I did notice them in the places you mentioned just not at the main Vancouver waterfront area. No matter what city it's a sad and difficult situation. I live outside of Seattle and it's similar to Portland. If we should decide to retire in Clark County we are looking in areas around Ridgefield/Woodland or Camas/Washougal. Regardless of some homeless, I love the city of Vancouver and prefer it over Seattle. Thank you for your reply. Best of luck in Idaho.
