I’m collecting SSDI for over ten years now and I am receiving 300 less than the amount you just mentioned. How much should I be getting here in California?

The amount of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits you receive can vary based on several factors, including your lifetime earnings before your disability began. The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a complex formula to calculate your benefits. If you believe there may be an error in your benefit amount, it would be best to contact the SSA directly. They can review your records and ensure that your benefits have been calculated correctly. If you're a member of the Disability Digest, we have resources that can guide you through this process. Why is this happening? I’ll be checking my next ssdi payment this Wednesday. I don’t work because of my VA and other disabilities. Is this only affecting ssdi recipients that are also working?

If you're not working, these rules wouldn't typically affect your SSDI benefits. However, other factors, such as changes in your disability status, could potentially affect your benefits. If you have specific concerns about your benefits, I would recommend reaching out to the SSA directly or consulting with our disability advocates or attorney.

It's great to hear that your situation with the state has been fixed! To get back the money that has been deducted since 12/1/23, you will need to contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) directly. Here are the steps you can follow: 1. Gather Documentation: Ensure you have all relevant documents that show the correction and the effective date (12/1/23). 2. Contact SSA: Call the SSA at their toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213. It's best to call early in the day to avoid long wait times. 3. Explain Your Situation: Inform them about the error and the deductions you’ve been facing since December. Provide the effective date of the correction and any supporting documents. 4. Request a Refund: Clearly request a refund for the $174 deducted each month since 12/1/23. Be polite and patient, as the representative may need time to review your case. 5. Follow Up: If you don't get a resolution right away, ask for a reference number for your call or the name of the person you spoke with. Follow up if necessary. Being persistent and organized with your documentation will help expedite the process. If you encounter any issues, you may also consider visiting your local SSA office for assistance.
