Major Key Alert 🔑 Do not allow potential or current clients haggle you down on your prices. I have experienced people trying to haggle me down on prices - absolutely not. I think this ties into respecting your self-worth and the the value of your product and services. If Target won’t allow you to haggle their prices down, don’t allow anyone to haggle your prices down.

Great explanation on the differences between being a coach and a consultant! Some of my clients (especially in the beginning) expected from me to provide them with answers. Having healthy boundaries in the beginning is essential for establishing a good relationship between the client and the coach. :) P.S. Vanessa, I’ve loved watching your videos from the beginning, but the last few are really killing it! You’re bringing so much value, you’re more relaxed on camera, and I feel like you connect with all of us on a deeper level. Thank you! ❤️

You just cleared up a lot of the reservations I've had about coaching. Honestly, half of what you listed I thought were requirements for being a coach and I didn't want to do any of it (like having/giving all the answers, always being available). Thank you for showing me that it's not about that!

Hi Vanessa, I am not a coach but I started watching your videos because of the Corporate Job life video which was so spot on. It's funny because as a graphic designer we can have the opposite problem. Some clients come to us and pay us but then want to give us the answers. lol. But the same holds true for needing to set boundaries and not feeling on-call with clients so that we are receiving late-night texts about projects. It's been great to see your growth since you quit your Corporate job.

wow...you hit it right there! This exactly resonates with my current business and how I resented it because of the exact mistake that you mentioned here. I have been reading up and looking for advice on why I lost motivation and drive for my business. I know I was too responsive to my clients and overly stressing myself over my effective responsiveness to them. Turning self-employed in the hope to have more personal free time, I end up having no life! After 8 years, I finally hated my phone, and hated everything I was doing. I literally could not move anymore and the drive that I once had, I could not revive it back no matter how hard I try. Being too "responsible" lead to my downfall and this is common among women especially! I don't see my guys peers having this issue as much as us. No one has ever spoken so clearly on this, including leaders in my industry, never. I told them my problem, but they say it is natural! Part and parcel they say... This is not part and parcel, it is a mistake that we need to be aware of. Great one Vanessa!

This was so true and thank you for spelling out the differences. It’s important to be specific and know exactly who your audience is and I also think asking the right questions to help us answer our own question is very important to helping us be independent problem solvers and rock our businesses. A helpful hand or guidance here and there sure but it’s crazy that some people just want all the answers all the time. Got to go for the long game.

Totally agree about the first point regarding personal development and the correlation of becoming a mindset or a life coach. I certainly think this extends to other areas as well. As a woman with 10 years of high-ticket sales experience under her belt, it was a no brainer for me to become a sales coach. Especially because of the mindset piece.. A lot of self-proclaimed sales coaches have only sold successfully in their coaching business for a short period of time, therefore they do not know what it takes to actually help another coach change their relationship with things like rejection, hearing no and overcoming fear of self-promo. Because I was a woman in a predominantly masculine career field, that experience has taught me how to teach other women to change their relationship with sales. It’s best to start out by leading with what you know and what others come to you for in the way of advice or suggestions.

Hey Vanessa! IMO, one of your best videos-thank you! As a "coach" your goal should be to have your "players" execute on their own rather than stopping "mid-play" and looking to the sidelines for affirmation they're doing it properly. I think it’s tough when people first start this kind of business because, you know what’s possible because you worked through it and reached the other side. And that’s puts you in a position where you want everyone around you to be able to experience that as well. So you do everything you can to try to drag them to where you are and sometimes it takes getting worn out before you figure out that you can’t drag people to success. They have to want it for themselves, as badly as you initially wanted it for YOURself. It took me a while to learn that in my very first business before I stopped trying to drag people. But apparently most of us can eventually pick up on the fact, so that’s a good thing! LOL

Thanks for this video, Vanessa! Also what I've learned this week : it's important for your biz to have a unique name so that it actually pops up in Google when ppl search for it - I made the mistake of making my website named Too Many Tabs (and no surprise, there was already a higher ranking website). Or even changing one letter helps, like how one Korean rap group made their name 'Epik High' instead of 'Epic High'. Hope this helps someone! :)
@taoist325 жыл бұрын
Shin Having a unique and simple name that tells your story and the essence of your brand is one of the first things business owners do. I had to look up your profile to see what you mean by Too Many Tabs. It does not give the feel of minimalism at all.

@@taoist32 Hi Taoist40! Thanks for stopping by and leaving some constructive criticism :) My website's called Too Many Tabs because I have a mix of 3 core topics - marketing, sustainability & self dev (having this many topics is actually not ideal from a marketing point of view, a narrow niche is much more brandable and easier to gain traffic). But I've decided never mind that, gonna just start and check what I like writing about/what the audience likes. After I see what works, I plan to narrow it down later. Oh and you've reminded me - I need to update my KZbin banner art as well, so thanks!

Zoe Annabelle Why not look at all the things you enjoy and passionate about. It doesn’t have to be coaching the “normal” topics like relationships, money, or career. Sometimes it could be a unique look at art perspectives or creating the perfect morning routine. I’ve seen spider wranglers who make $800,000 a year. So, choose anything you are passionate about. There are almost 8 billion people in the world. There are at least 100 people out there that share your exact passion. Coaching is just a process of helping someone fine their answers or developing their skills.

taoist40 thank you for taking the time to reply to me. That’s good advice, i think it’s because I am a very multitasking type of person so kind of do a little bit of everything, I’m a mum, a business owner, like fitness, like beauty, like fashion, like having projescts to do, love my KZbin and editing etc so this is why I’m so confused. Thanks for evaluating my channel, tbh the reason I have so many cleaning videos and organisation is because they are the ones youtube are pushing and getting me all the views and subscribers but I wouldn’t say that’s my passion, in fact I only really do it because I feel better after and I do like a tidy home but I am not super organised like a lot of people. 🤯
