Nah, Guy wanted more time to train and Minato became Hokage and then died too young, even with his speed. Jiraya was active for the longest of all of them, up til he died in his 50s. Most retire long before that, like Kakashi

He had obtained that Pain was multiple specific dead kekkei genkai users being controlled by one primary renegan user, deduced that it allowed them to share the same perspective and that they had compromised the village politically. With this information the Leaf could have attacked or defended accordingly. Because of his ego, he chose to fight blindly leading to his death. It was really just a way for his death to be written and Naruto to inherit sage mastery because it made no sense for him to fight.

I'm pretty sure it was an intel gathering mission, not a mission to take out the current mizukage (Pain, holding that position at that time). So technically he did complete the mission and got the Intel sent back to Konoha, he just didn't stay alive. But regardless, his mission was completed in Kirigakure.
