I understand the Basculin is NOT a typical shiny Pokemon fail. I'm well aware of this. I put that reaction in here because it was the start of my many shiny basculin to come on the quest for dratini. It's not everyday you have a 400+ chain that ends up trolling you with a shiny you don't want. A shiny is a shiny at the end of the day BUT in this case this was the start of many basculins that would start to troll me as I looked for shiny dratini.

Always know the moves of the Pokemon you are hunting for. That way, you are prepared. For example: geodudes know Self-Destruct, so bring a Pokemon with the Damp ability. They also know Magnitude, so don't attempt to hunt them in hordes unless you are risky (like me lol). If the Pokemon knows a move like Perish Song, where it kills itself, then bring a Pokemon that can put them to sleep before they are able to make that move. Status effects ALWAYS help, makes them more likely to be caught as well. If you are hunting a Pokemon with a move that hurts them with recoil, such as Take Down, then don't use False Swipe, and try to block it from using that move. If the Pokemon has Roar or Teleport, have a Pokemon with a Shadow Tag or Arena Trap, like Trapinch. That way they cannot run away. If the Pokemon is safe from all of this, then you can False Swipe them.

Honestly I'd just be mindful of what moves the Pokemon has. If it can't kill itself, teleport away, or use whirlwind/roar, then dexnav or chaining is not only faster, but more fun. For stuff like Abra, Ralts(I think), and final gambit sevipers, I would definitely Masuda method.

A tip: If a Pokemon has a move that kills it, say Perish Song... it's best to put the Pokemon asleep.

i tried getting a shiny mudkip for like 2 months and when i finally got it... I FREAKING SOFT-RESET THE GAME UGGGGGHHHH I WAS DONE PLAYING POKEMON FOR LIKE 1 MONTH AFTER THAT. EVERYTIME SOMEONE WOULD SAY SOMETHING ABOUT POKEMON I JUST THOUGHT OF THAT HORRIBLE FAIL I HAD TO GO THROUGH.

I don't think it counts as a "fail" when you get a different shiny pokemon from the target shiny Pokemon. It's all RNG and you can't control it. A FAIL is when the outcome is mostly controllable and habit or accidents happen, such as, Soft resetting out of habit or accidentally hitting the run button or killing the pokemon. Can't count it as a fail if you got a different shiny from the target because you still got a shiny and could've caught it.

I understand where you are coming from. It is all rng when it comes to shiny hunting. I count the basculin as a fail because I wasted so much time to get on 400+ chain just for a shiny basculin right after I saw a dratini. It's not a typical fail of a shiny but that is the only time I've gone over 400+ just to find a crap shiny Pokemon. Plus my reaction was total rage that is why I put it on the list.

SmkGaming05 I understood why you put it on the list, and I've seen the highlights for all those Basculin shinies, but Dratini is also like 5%. Lol. It's like raging over shiny Zubats in Meteor Falls when your target is the 5% Bagon horde, making the odds even lower for a shiny Bagon. And believe me, I got a Shiny Bagon in a horde after only 4 shiny zubats in hordes, and I was distracted and habit took control and ran away from that horde after I had fainted one of the other bagons. Worst moment I've ever had as a shiny hunter. Luckily I DexNaved Bagon and got it in 100 DexNavs, so the game felt bad for the time I wasted and gave me a quick DexNav shiny Bagon. I also failed a Wingull in a horde on my X and an Absol recently, which is why I took a break from hunting on that game. They were random encounters though. Pus I've caught like 2 shiny Wingulls and a Peliper before and I have two shiny Absol, so those fails weren't nearly as bad as the Bagon fail. But I quit hunting on that game for the time being because I didn't want to get a different shiny I don't have and end up losing it, so I've taken a break. Lol. I don't think I've gotten any shinies since though, so I guess I'm on a drought.

But see that is the point of the fail. I'm looking for this 5% Chance of a shiny Dratini and the chain is over 400+ and it gives me a basculin. Chain fishing normally never gets That High and the reaction is a super funny one because I was so pissed off.

SmkGaming05 You're right, I suppose. But the chain can get that high when you don't have the shiny charm. And I've had plenty of fish "chains" that "have" gone over 400 or more on my AlphaSapphire, that doesn't have shiny charm. Most of the time I break the chains, so I'm just hoping for quick shinies. Lol. Fish chaining isn't my favorite form of hunting. It requires too much focus. I'd rather full odds hunt while running/biking around than fish chain. But that's just me.

From my shiny hunting time chain fishing having a shiny charm didn't really help at all. I got a ton of quick shiny pokemon when I didn't have a charm. You are right in saying chain fishing my not be that enjoyable at times because you gotta focus. That is another reason why I had the basculin reaction on the list. When you do a fishing chain over 400+ and find a troll of a shiny basculin it was just a fail. To focus and work so hard to find something I have so many of.

Why don't people ever use a quick ball on pokemon who can kill themselves or run away? You have a higher chance of catching those types of pokemon if you use it upon first encounter. You're just setting yourself up for failure if you try and catch it in a pokeball that's bound to fail most of the time.

I watched this video. 5 minutes later I go to find a Suction Cups Inkay for a fishing hunt. I run into a horde, shiny seviper's in the horde. I only have 1 pokemon, its only attacking move is fly. Aim for the Zangoose, forgets the Sevipers kill it off anyway. They kill it while Fly is charging. Fly lands on the next pokemon over... The next pokemon over was the shiny and it died.

5) NOT A FAIL 4) Given how you initially reacted to the Shiny Sunkern, it almost looks like you wanted to fail it. :P 3) Obviously, you _still_ weren't paying attention. x3 2) One of the dangers of Final Gambit. I'd imagine Zangoose at that level would be the same. Thank God for Decidueye in SM. No effect on Ghost types. 1) There's a variety of fail I've never seen before. Two guesses: either (a) you ran too fast, or (b) you took the long route instead of taking a shorter route to the shiny patch.

How I do my Top 5 video is how I do them. Going over a 400+ chain JUST to find a shiny basculin was not worth at all. All the other things I literally spaced out during the time I found the shiny pokemon or I didn't have an easy solution to get the shiny pokemon. It's always easy to pick out how I COULD have done things. There is a reason this a FAIL video lol.

My false swiper is a Shedinja. Wonder Guard makes it easy to weaken legendaries that can't touch it, take down can't hit it and something like Final Gambit will fail against it. Something can still explode though

Those are normal. Not shiny. There are two types of Basculin: Blue-striped and red-striped. They both have shinies.
