In addition, these are some significant considerations of my clients: Punctuality and Good Planning Skills. The ability to show up on time during face-to-face/virtual meetings and being prepared for my presentations. I take note of these all the time. :)

Beautiful! This is the video that I've been waiting for since I found your channel Heinrich :)... Based on my experience I would say that resilience is probably the most important skill of them all. I noticed that showing an aptitude to quickly learn and develop one's skills as a consultant is quite appreciated by senior consultants, and this is related to being resilient I think. Thanks, and looking forward to our next coffee break ;) Best! Elyas E.

My favorite is leading team members over who you do not have influence. Leadership is such an untaught skill set in the corporate space, but yet is so much needed. Young professionals can become such great leaders if only they are taught to be such by their leaders.

Skill 1 - Business acumen 1:00 can be learned and developed. keenness and quickness to understand and deal with a "business situation" understand accounting and finance. they assume they can talk with these people at eye level. Skill 2 - Ability to influence people 2:50 since as an external consultant, you don't have authority to ask they do things. instead, you need to convince these people, and they want to follow. 3:20 leading without authority Skill 3 - Quantitative and analytical skills as first years, you will be responsible for this a lot. Skill 4 - Communication skills 5:00 as a consultant, you're frequently leading client meeting. to sit with other senior people. how good your powerpoint is. leave the presentation as you leave the company. Skill 5 - Resilience techniques a lot about self-reflection. personal development, and set the right boundaries when necessary.

I would love to hear tips on how to narrow down and specialize in the consulting world. I feel like if, apart from general business acumen knowledge, I also learn a lot about my fields of interest, I might advance much faster by offerring my consulting expertise in a narrowed down industry or something like that. My goal is to work in consulting for 5-10 years so I want to maximize my profits for the time being.
@FirmLearning

Hi Edijs, there is usually a trade-off here. For you, you will likely learn most if you do projects in lots of many industries and functions. For the consulting firm, it is better you specialize and build deep domain expertise. Usually at MBB, you will switch around sectors very freely in the first 2 years or so and then start to specialize. Best! Heinrich

Hi Heinrich, I'm a CA student in India. BCG/Bain/McK here hire either from the top bschools or only Rankholders/course toppers in CA (you don't even get a shortlist otherwise). I think it's similar for most countries. Can you tell me how to get into consulting if one isn't on the top academically? I have been told to try for smaller consulting firms to start. Can you please elaborate?
@FirmLearning
@FirmLearning 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Naman, thanks for your comment. MBB firms are definitely selective. If your academics are not top, suggest you think about whether there are other areas in your profile that are excellent and might compensate the academic parts (e.g., impressive extracurricular experience). Of course you will have lots of opportunities in other firms as well. Best and lots of success to you! Heinrich
