@@yepsame2you805 The biggest difference between the GZ250 and Ninja 300 in terms of wheelies is probably length and center of gravity. Ninja has a much higher seating position and shorter wheelbase. Extreme of that is a bicycle - it's entirely possible to wheelie a bicycle (not that I know how to) with only about 0.5 hp, but those have really short wheelbases and high seating positions, plus - in motorcycle terms - weigh basically nothing.

The trail braking thing - the big lesson there, something I've seen MotoJitsu talking about this as well, is that people need to be comfortable with the idea of simultaneous braking and turning, and how to balance them. Get over the idea that you can only do one at a time. Even if not riding for "performance," it's really useful to be able to do both simultaneously, and sometimes can be essential if the turn ends up being tighter than expected. If unable to do that, you could end up in a bad situation. And likewise being able to ride in a more "performance-oriented" manner, even if not pushing the limits, will have a person better able to deal with situations that unexpectedly go beyond their usual manner of riding.
@QuestionThings1232 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to practice it some myself ever since seeing motojitsu's take on it. I think for a lot of riders who've never tried it, it initially feels taboo...like it's something you're initially told as a street rider never to do, and getting over that is the 1st big hurdle. 2nd being learning to practice brake lever control while doing it. There's a fine line between trail braking and grabbing too much front brake and quickly sending yourself lowside. Practice in as slow and safe of a place as you can find at first is my suggestion

This is imho the most important reason to teach trail breaking as a basic skill (and not as a "track day only" skill). Especially on narrow mountain roads where you can't see around the corner, being used to (light) breaking while being leaned over saved me several times. I live near the Alps and on those narrow streets a bus or just a bigger car can easily block both lanes while going around a narrow bend.

I broke 2 bones in my left foot while trail riding yesterday. I hit a tree. Was forced to slow down a bit too much in a turn, single track, because of the rider in front of me. He slowed down to let me pass, but he waited to move to late at the start of the turn, I didn't think he was going to move to let me pass. My bike came up from leaning, and caused me to go wide and my foot hit the tree dead on. Didn't fall. The hit didn't really hurt. I got to my truck about 5 min after, I started to feel the pain then. The doc didn't tell me much but she is sending me to a specialist. I wonder what other damage I have done other then the 2 broken bones. My toes and ankle don't feel too good. My old man tells me I'm out for 8 weeks at a minimum. This just sucks! And at the same time, there is positive and negative in every situation. Maybe some good will come out of this ordeal. I'm glad I had my mx boots and not just regular boots. And now the best part, last Friday at 5pm a fellow worker gets back to the shop with a swollen left foot after jumping out the back of a service truck, I tell him stop by my RV and I'll give you my crutches from when I broke my right fibula in 2018. lololol :-)

One added benefit of trail braking on the street is you actually went into the corner slower than how the msf teaches you. I found that this happens because you basically ride the brake going into the lean. Even at minimal pressure it still slows the bike more than coasting while leaning. Yeah when you always trail brake you will eventually tend to go into corner faster and brake later, but when you do a relaxed ride you are in fact slower in the corner than coasting while you lean. And slower=safer because you have more time to react to any obstacles in the corner.

Well... a buddy of mine had that happen. He's fine, but walked like he had a corncob up his ass for a couple of months with a broken tailbone. 🤣 I have a Yamaha MT-03 I ride to and from Amarillo, Texas everyday. hey, I've been practicing on a friend's grom for when I get my first bike and I'm so afraid that I'm going to shift wrong at high speed and it's going to come to a screaming halt and throw me off. can that happen? I kinda have a problem releasing the clutch too fast.
@StimmedPenguin2 жыл бұрын
If you’re still afraid of over downshifting, keep riding that grom till the fear is alleviated. Confidence built on real skill whether it’s riding, shooting, or fighting will show up during actuality if you practice hard enough. If you’re going at such a high speed where your afraid of such things. You’re going too fast for your level. You should be only going as fast as much as you can comfortably slow down for an emergency at that speed. As for technique tips, if you lock your rear somehow via downshifting and braking, you can either ride it out and keep your rear locked till you gain traction or come to a stop or try to be smooth with your clutch and act as the anti lock system yourself as you get the rear rolling on its own again. Gaining traction too quickly during midturn will indeed launch you off. Again, an issue of not slowing enough before your turn. You build confidence in your clutch work and smoothness when you practice low speed maneuvers. This smoothness and control comes into play when shifting as a result. Another quick tip, try to shift within the friction zone not fully pulled in as to give you better smoothness and control.

@Yammie Noob, it's a common misconception that bicycles (of all kinds) stay upright on their own because of gyroscopic procession. The gyroscopic effect does come into play, especially at higher speeds, but the main reason bicycles stay upright is due to the geometry of the fork/frame angle. The youtube channel "Minutephysics" has a video titled "How do Bikes Stay Up?" that explains the effect. It's pretty interesting stuff, I encourage everyone to watch!

Today was my second day on the road with my first ever bike. I’d say so far the most difficult thing for me slowing down for a turn (so like going into first gear) and then accelerating again. I don’t know why. Like when I have the clutch pulled in and i’m in first gear as i let go of the clutch the bike slows down to much which makes it dangerous for a car behind me which can read end me and also bad for balance when i’m going slow into a turn. It’s making me frustrated to be honest.
@flyinghigh20002 жыл бұрын
From my understanding is that your problem is mainly your are not smooth in your gear changing. It might be because you are holding in the clutch for too long also to add you just drop too many gears. If you hold the clutch too long the bike will coast then when the clutch start to bite it will slow the bike often jerkingly if you are not smooth with the release. Also longer you hold more rpm will drop so engine has higher rpm to get to for the gear and speed you are doing. If you drop too many gears, when you release the clutch the engine have to rev up to match the tire speed. In doing that speed drops as the engine struggle to get to a proper rpm. Solution, get smoother on gear change and clutch release. Faster to the biting point and smoother release afterwards. Some owners manual will state appropriate speed for each gear. These are the sweet spot for tire speed and engine rpm with zero throttle. In Yamaha manuals they call it shift point. Or learn how to rev match. As with anything worthwhile, it takes time and practice. Happy riding

First time commenting and want to complain! Gyroscopic effects are too little to mention them. It's mostly rake and trail that lets you keep the bike up. If you hit a bump, the bike self corrects. If gyro effect was big enough, it wouldnt want to go back - it would want to stay turned. In fact this is even true for bycycles. This is why sports bikes are more prone to tank slapper than choppers or adv bikes - the angle is different.
