I crashed my bike once and was laying beside my bike on the side of the road with a shattered foot and not a single car stopped for the 15 mins that I was laying there until my brother got there to get me. In those 15 mins I had 17 different bikes stop to make sure I had help on the way and 3 of them sat there with me until my brother got there. This is why I love biking and it’s community. You're right, the community is what makes biking even better. That reminded me of when I first rode a bike and had an accident. I remember opening my eyes and seeing a helmet asking me if I was ok. I didn't know that guy, I was in a main road and I don't know how many cars passed, but he was the one who stopped. I usually drive by myself because I don't know many bikers in my island. But every time I stop another biker says hi, ask how things are going, and tells random mechanical stuff I don't even understand, I feel a little less alone.

In Taiwan, the vast majority of the traffic is people on scooters / small motorcycles... Part of the reason for that is probably that it is next to impossible to find a parking spot for a car there, whereas with a scooter, you can always seem to "squeeeze one more" into a group of scooters that are parked right next to each other... Waving at every other rider is not a custom there as far as I was able to tell and I rode around the Taipei area for a month...

Super vid. Years ago, the clutch cable of my GPZ500S snapped while touring in the South of France. I had packed a spare, but it was at the campsite I was staying at, about 5 miles down the road. However, within a few minutes, a middle aged French guy in a car stopped to see if I was okay. He lived nearby and helped get my bike to his house, then took me to the campsite to retrieve the cable. On getting back to his place, he opened up a big garage and my eyes lit up. There were bike racing posters all over the walls, tools arranged on work benches and other mechanic’s paraphernalia, and three motorbikes. Apparently, he had once raced bikes, as did his son at the time, the pinnacle being the Bol D’Or sports endurance race. He helped me fix up my cable, fed me and we had a glass of wine 🍷. All while hardly speaking any French or English, just the camaraderie of the motorcyclist to bond over. Vive la France 🇫🇷 Long live the motorbike!
@kenwittlief255
@kenwittlief255 Жыл бұрын
why didnt you just ride the bike? 5 miles with a broken clutch cable is nothing At a stop put the bike in neutral, start it up, duck walk it up to 2mph and kick it down into 1st to get going, or if the bike will let you just start it in 1st gear up shifting is easy to down shift to stop you can try to rev match the engine while you kick it down or just leave it in gear and hit the kill switch if you must stop

@@briarfox637 Most of the time, the uniforms on the street are relatively easy to deal with, and yeah, just being respectable is enough... There are a few who'll find or make up something to give you crap about... BUT they're not frequent... #7 Rules when it happens. I had my shifter lever break on a ride with a few friends. It had been dropped on that side at one point and probably weakened. A dude in a truck with a covered trailer stopped and offered help. He was hauling a restored CB360. He insisted on loading up my bike and driving me back to my house. All in all he took about an hour and a half out of his evening to help me out. The kicker is that the dude wouldn't even take the $20 I tried giving him for gas. Fucking stand up Samaritan.

The ninja 250 was my first bike. He rode on the back during my first few rides around our little neighborhood thinking if I could ride with him on the back, I’d have no problem on my own! First couple of bumps we went over, the suspension bottomed out! He was so tall on that bike he could flat foot from the passenger seat 😆 Meanwhile I had the bike lowered so I could be on my tiptoes. I eventually got used to being on my toes. Today I ride a 2007 Ducati Monster 695, but I haven’t had anyone as a passenger since!

Ive taken many of my guy friends on the back of the bike, some of them have even said i am the only person they will get on the back of a bike with. My boyfriend is also an experienced rider so if we take one bike somewhere we always take turns driving. Sometimes we'll give people a show and switch at traffic lights. We get some good laughs when they see the girl on the back hop to the front and take over.

I also experienced a girl, who thought I was a boy, jumping on when I stopped at lights. She hugged me and snuggled up, so I turned to her and said, you've got the wrong person. She literally fell backwards off the bike and I hadn't moved at all!

As much as my husband is afraid of motorcycles (because of an irresponsible friend) he has hopped on my bike a couple times, but it was only for a couple miles, and all small surface streets. At the time he had about 20 lbs on me; between that and fear keeping him bolt upright, turns were a struggle, but I think if he'd been more relaxed it would have been fine. I wave at everyone I can, scoots and bicycles included. I know, I'm weird.

Rule number 7. I was introduced to this the day I picked up my bike (1st bike/1st ever ride). I had gotten nervous about coming up to a stoplight on a hill with a bunch of traffic so i turned into a parking lot. The parking lot was slanted and for whatever reason I I stopped mid slant and started to walk it back and turning to face the right way. Got overwhelmed dropped the bike so all the weight was goin down hill. Pretty small guy, 450 pound bike, needless to say I couldn’t pick it up. Called my dealer in a panic hoping they’d have advice, when a gentleman in a truck pulled out of line from the stop light and said hey I saw you having a hard time, can I give you a hand? He was a fellow rider and I couldn’t have been more grateful for the assist, especially having no idea what I’ was doing. That was my welcome to the community and I’ll always stop to check on riders to see if I can help

I've been riding for almost 30 years and I don't completely agree with the left leg always being down. With my experience, I usually try to feather the clutch on the throttle if not coming to a complete stop. If I do come to a complete stop both legs go down unless I'm on an incline at that point I will depress the rear brake with my right foot and then my left leg will come down. Great video by the way it's my first time watching.

I don't do the foot drag and have only had a bike license since 1980. I do the foot swap on inclines/declines. When stopped at lights, etc. both feet are on the ground to stabilize the bike, front brake on. I watch the traffic lights and try to anticipate the change, lean a bit to the right and balance on R foot, shift into gear with L foot, put L foot down and lean L to balance bike and move R foot onto peg and brake and then release the front brake. Rear brake holds bike and when traffic light changes, away you go. No need to wear out boots. Other than that, I don't drag feet, I walk them when the bike speed is very slow.

Probably because people in America are dumbed-down and insulated, and drinking the instant kool-aid of their Wayz app of complacency and unawareness. Us die-hard mileage drivers and riders still do. As well as flashing when at a 4-way stop with another vehicle who arrives at the same time.

Yo Yammie .... just a quick update for you. Here in the UK where we are on the opposite side and can't use our hands to wave, the nod is usually done to the side rather than forward. A nod forward is a little dangerous as you take your eyes off the road and could be caused by road conditions too, so the nod to the side is more intentional as a greeting to your fellow biker ;)

The last one really touched me because in my last trip abroad I just came out of a petrol station and after 2 miles or so I saw a rider looking in distress. I didn’t know how to fix his bike but I had some tools on me so I could get him some comfort. In the end, road assist came to his aid. I felt bad because I couldn’t help him out more, but in a situation like that, I would prefer if someone would just stop and say hi. Maybe you need a phone, a knife or some water, so any little thing helps, even a kind word or a Hello.

I go back and forth to work on a really nice twisty road. I don't often get waves from crotch rocket riders because they are usually pretending they are on the last lap of a moto GP race. Usually they give the head bob. It's all good. The tap of the helmet is all I ever want from another rider. That is always appreciated

Once broke down on a bike trip . A guy and his family stopped. He had bikes too. They stayed with me trying to fix my bike for an hour with tools he had. Could not get it going and proceeded to arrange a friend with a trailer to pick me and my bike up. They were actually starting their holidays (vacation for USA). Got me and my bike home and would not take anything for the help. That’s what bikers will do for each other. Didn’t know him and never saw him again. One of the many reasons I love biking.

Pretty good video! When I was riding in the early nineties, I don't remember the head-tap signal. I was riding a cruiser (Honda V45 Magna) in a land of sport bikes, San Diego. I remember them whizzing by splitting lanes, something I was too cautious to try. I always wore gloves, jeans, boots and helmet, and drove normal speeds. I was always too hot on those stop and go freeways. I took solo trips to the Grand Canyon, up the coast highway, and down to Baja. Good memories. Thinking about maybe riding again after the kid leaves for college later this year.

I’m BRAND new to riding, literally have never been on a bike. I got my M1 three days ago, course mid July. I bought a cb300r and it’s coming Monday. I’ve waited 20 years for this day to come. Since my mid teens I’ve wanted a bike. I’m both scared and excited. I was recently trained on a forklift at work, and I’m imagining how it would be similar to that. Took a few months to really get smooth with things and comfortable. A few butt clenching moments mixed in. Although my left foot doesn’t do anything in a forklift, both hands and right foot have to work seamlessly together for smooth maneuvering. Shoulder checks, 100% awareness at all times, etc.. Thank you for this video, and all your other videos. They are very helpful, and always give me a laugh. Much love from Ontario, Canada.
