I don't often comment on videos, and I really like your content (how hard and long it is even for pros, and how grateful it is when you succeed). And this video is also really cool, because usually top 5 hacks are useless (ie zip tie-ing a tire on the frame to protect it, who does that in real life except for rent ? ugly bike you don't care, beautiful bike you dont want to mess it up with ugly tire). But those tips are quite uncommon and clever and could really helps in real life. Exactly what you would expect for hacks !

awesome video Ali Quick tip, while you have your zip tie out, and have bled your brakes, if they are not quite 100%, simply wrap the zip tie around the lever to pull a slight amount of pressure on, and leave it overnight. With the lever opening the bleed port inside the master cylinder, air is free to flow upwards out of the system
@RUSSM84 жыл бұрын
it definitely works. again, not a replacement for a perfect bleed. but great if you are away from home or don't have the time for a full bleed. I learnt the trick on motorbikes, works just the same

Cheers for those tips Ali, I don't ride trials much but I do run a front brake hose through the steerer of my DJ bike. Brake silencing isn't so much of a problem on a DJ bike, we don't use them much to start with and the only noise I do notice is squealing from cold sintered pads :-)

Tip #6. If you got a brake but not very good use a elastic band/cable tie to squeeze the leaver over night. It helps the air come to the top and sort of self bleeds

For hs33's I recently discovered that instead of grinding your rims again, you can use an eraser to get the rim clean again. I mean it won't help you get a rough surface on the rim but it definitely improves braking performance because I feel like it helps to remove greasy stuff and dirt. :D
@peglor4 жыл бұрын
Any hint of wet on the rim and braking performance falls off a cliff with an unground rim though. Lots of riders in countries with dry climates rub tar on the braking surface to get ridiculous bite and hold.
@davidportej4 жыл бұрын
@@peglor yeah, i was talking about an already grinded rim. But instead of grinding again you can get a bit more lifetime out of your existing grind by getting the rim clean again with an eraser.

Hi Ali, I remember back in 2007 we had in Romania so many riders on the streets we had queues at every riding spot.. The shops were packed with street / dirt / trials parts... Today I can count on my fingers the riders on the streets, the shops no longer have parts for such disciplines apart from grips, pedals, maybe tyres. Back in the days, tartybikes was full of custom parts, today you barely have any options to some parts. I can see though, the Mountainbiking community is the same, or even bigger. I have a trials bike with parts from tarty build back in 2011, but if now something breaks, I see tartybikes the only option for Romania. Do you have any bigger picture / insight? can you also address the interest in trials / street / bmx nowadays? Thanks!

Heh the ziptie hack is great for the accidents - if you happen to have the fluid in hand - but when you change a new lever planned, why not just use the shimano cup and keep tapping the plug stick at the hole until your reservoir is full?
@dmrfnk4 жыл бұрын
@@Ali_Clarkson The best ten bucks you can spend, I tell you. A funny anecdote... Shimano changed the bleed nipple threads in the newest road levers. Instead of selling another plastic cup that lasts a year even in shop use, they supply an adapter with each and every new-threaded STI-lever they sell, even to OEM.

Nice video Ali. I have been following your Channel for a long time now, and i often wonder why you still go for the long video format (25 minutes +). I have a feeling that a shorter format (like this video : sub 10 minutes) would gather more views. Even though it would require more edit work on your side. Anyway, this is just a feeling. I am not a youtuber. Thanks, and keep up Ali! Your Channel is well underrated, as Seth's bike hack said a few years back!

@@Ali_Clarkson Once the video is as long as it needs to be then it's all good - don't try to make long videos short or short videos long. Since there's very little money to be made with sub 10 minute videos on youtube (From what I've heard anyway and explains why so much youtube content is best watched at 1.5 speed these days), and most of your income is from Patreon anyway, there's no need to play to youtube's algorithm at all.

@peglor4 жыл бұрын
Sugru is one of the most famous inventions to come out of Ireland in recent times. The name is a modification of the Irish word súgradh, which is the verb for to play. The ú is pronounced the same as oo in poo, and the adh is pronounced as aaah :-P... Since Scots Gaelic is very closely related to Irish they are likely to use a similar word.

They're kinda ugly tho so I haven't done it. Unfortunately I still have to disconnect the brake to make stack adjustments lol.
