The R nine T hits the sweet spot between timeless style and performance. The classic design influences are clear but they haven't gone overboard, it isn't trying too hard be something it isn't. It's a bike that makes you feel great which is a big part of what motorcycling is all about.

I've had the opportunity to see this bike up close and it is a looker! Definitely my favorite of the RnineT series. Prior to that was the Scrambler with that brushed aluminum tank and the lush looking tan seat... These bikes, at least for me, exude a 70's sort of cool. I can picture Brando, Dean, and McQueen owning one of these.

I remember looking at the R nineT at the local BMW dealership a few times over the years, kind of admiring it, but thinking it wasn’t a bike for me. Fast forward a bit...I bought a new Pure in late August and really dig it. I’ve already put a few mods into the new bike, with more planned over the winter months. It really is a terrific machine, and you’re spot on with your top five!

Good review. ...nice to hear someone speaking from the heart about what they like about a particular bike. Bikes are such emotive things and it can be hard to explain what it is that draws you to a particular one...or why there are certain bikes you can never part with! I remember when I had an original Z1B I would move it around at work so I could gaze at it from a different angle. ..it's a bike thing! Steve

I had a 1986 BMW R100 way back and although less sophisticated than this bike it had much of the same character. I bought it with 15K on the clock and sold it with 115K. In that time it required only the secluded maintenance. It was recommended that the valves were changed at 80K and there was absolutely no wear on the valve guides at all. I only sold it because the rest of the bike was cosmetically worn out and the suspension at both ends needed replacing. It just looked tatty and I just didn't have the time then to do a full restoration. Engine wise I think it could have done another 100K no trouble at all. I imagine with this bike that the same engineering quality and longevity, it would make it equally super reliable.

I really enjoy your videos, thanks very much. I bought an R Nine T last year and test rode 3 variants before I chose one - the R Nine T Classic, the R Nine T Pure and the R Nine T Scrambler with road tyres. I chose the R Nine T Scrambler which is a little slower to turn than the other two but for me is much more comfortable. It's a bigger bike with a more upright riding position and softer suspension which works well with the surface irregularities hereabouts. The other two gave me issues with my wrists after 20 minutes or so. The bike was a demonstrator with knobbly tyres which were really really horrible on the road so I took them off and replaced them with good quality road tyres and have been really happy ever since. If you get the chance I urge you to try a Scrambler without the ridiculously inappropriate knobbly tyres.
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Yes I do love the looks, fit and finish of the scrambler - but yes, those tyres defo have to go!

I put the Metzeler Tourance tyres on my scrambler and it feels proper now while still capable of riding some dirt roads. I can't get enough of riding mine.
@hammersteve86 жыл бұрын
A few in here stating the price holds them back. I've got the Scrambler, as I prefer the look and higher stance, shod in road tyres. If you shop around and hit the dealership at the right time you'll save a few bob. Got road tyres, ACS, heated grips, LEDs and spoked wheels for under 10k. That's a huge saving over the Rninet for what is, in essence, the same machine. Stay safe all!

I do not own the R9T but have had the opportunity to ride the standard model numerous times and your analysis is spot on. If I had to pick top 5 things, they would be exactly the 5 things you selected. However, the one things that kills it for me is tubed rims. Why can BMW use the spoked tubeless rims like on the GS but not on the R9T. I've had it with dealing with a flat on a tubed bike. Only bike left with tubes in the garage is the CRF250L but that is expected. I plan on trading in my 14 Bonnie T100 later in the year for either a Z900RS or the soon to be released CB1000R. Just a matter of getting a test ride on both bikes and making a decision. I already know the Z900RS will be $3K less here on the U.S and the Honda will most likely be also less money. Lately, we certainly do have some very good options on bikes with a more traditional non trasformerish look but with modern features.

TheMissendenFlyer How about a Triumph street triple, BMW GS, Honda CRF and Ducati 899 Panigale...

...in that case I'd havethe Kwak, as I'd already have a BMW Twin in the garage and I wouldn't have a 4 cylinder machine...

I'll get flamed for this but I prefer the Thruxton R. How about the BMW S1000R? RJ rides one.
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Well everyone has different tastes thank goodness! The Thruxton is a brilliant bike by all accounts, just not got the looks for me. I have ridden the S1000R - check out my BMW test rides playlist if you’re interested...all the best - TMF

Would you be able to give the link to your BMW S1000R review as the search function doesn't seem to be working and I'm not searching through all your vids? :@) Also are you going to start Community chat?

When are you going to buy the z900rs TMF?
@motonirvana68616 жыл бұрын
Both good choices but I would wait to demo the upcoming CB1000R before making a decision. The good part is that whichever bike you buy, you will have a great bike.
@motonirvana68616 жыл бұрын
will M So which one did you get?

Vincent79Vega The most superior bike is the one that gives the rider the most SPM's (smiles per mile).
@motonirvana68616 жыл бұрын
will M I'm going get to ride both XSR's next month when the Yami demo fleet truck comes to my local dealer. I'm very excited as I have not yet ridden a triple. I love that anniversary model with the black/yellow color scheme although the blue is nice as well. I also like that the XSR has a very nice price point compared to the other fine bikes we have been discussing and it's been around long enough for there to be some low mileage used models. Stay safe out there.

Stand and look at your bikes. How sad but we all do it.

Well if it makes us happy....some people stand in galleries and look at art work, I'd rather look at a well made piece of engineering. Thanks for watching - all the best - TMF

A proper r80 gs basic please a la original version from way back. No electronics. No can bus. Proper ,low manageable weight off road. A shaft that won't self destruct. In short something you can look after yourself that I can trust to ride anywhere. Great for Sundays and fundays maybe ... and it is pretty but not for .me ta.

Went to Edinburgh bike show on Saturday. No Bmw, Kawasaki, Suzuki or Ducati stands. Very disappointing as these are the manufacturers I'm most interested in.😠

This is a good looking bike for sure but I see a problem. This bike in the USA in this spec is a whopping $16,445! Annnndddd that excludes sales tax @ 7% plus dealer fees and delivery. That makes this bike an expensive proposition. A nice bike for sure I just think it's a little rich here in the USA and BMW will suffer for it. I think if this bike lived closer to 12 or 13K they wouldn't be able to keep them on the shelves. Not knocking the bike, knocking the price.
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Yes I entirely get that - sounds like they are probably cheaper in the US than here by those numbers!
@motonirvana68616 жыл бұрын
Exactly correct. The Z900RS is $11199. Add another $700 for the heated grips & center stand and you are done. That's $4.5K less than the BMW.
@Jasonhalls6 жыл бұрын
No sir I am not mistaken, go to the BMW website and spec it up with the black and yellow livery as tested here and the price is as quoted above directly from the BMW website. $16,445 +++
@montha1236 жыл бұрын
Jason Halls that a better price than most places , I bought a black coloured one here in Ireland a few weeks ago & the price came close on 18,000 euros believe it or not the price of one of these in Thailand is over 30,000 euros because of the high import duty etc
