1. Freedom 2. Very little homework 3. Theatrical plays 4. Diversity (things you do, learn about, etc - Trade Off: Days are longer, high school is longer) 5. People (wholesome people send their kids to Waldorf, and great parents make great kids)

Thank you for your video and honest comments . I am a retired Waldorf teacher and one extra point I would like to make from my experience is the love between the teacher and pupil especially in the primary school . Also the recognition by the teacher which you may not know is that the child brings soul and spiritual qualities ( however you wish to interpret that ) which may and probably are greater than her / his own and is worthy of great reverence respect .

4:22 - 4:42 What was the NEED of saying:-- "Shout out to all A$$holes out there", "A$$holes-Yayyyy! " ???!!! Thats "encouraging them to be Aholes, he made them look like Positive ppl. Instead he could only say, "There is hope" like he did and not say the encouraging other things abt them. He didnt even say that Parents need to do a better parenting with aholes cuz its basically parents who "create or encourage" aholism in their children ! He just left on the child that they can get better, but the time a child Realizes (like he himself now after growing up) that he's a ahole, he's done the damage to everyone surrounding him. all the classmates, teachers and EVERYONE he comes in contact with. He gives all so much stress EVERY SINGLE day that they dont Deserve! How could he take this so lightly, well, because he didnt have to deal with one FOR YEARS but he was the one. Whoever finds him funny saying these things and believes he's "RIGHT" in saying that.. then my wish for that person/s is, "MAY they have to deal with Aholes ALL their lives. Mikko, you certainly embody what you're speaking about, and that speaks highly about your education which certainly was formative, as in forming who you are. I love your comments about not having a disorder, you were just being an asshole. I can personally relate to that as well as being a psychotherapist/teacher, I think we waaaaay over-diagnose and medicate people and kids when most the time they're just responding to their environment and adaptations. This brings me full circle back to the environment and adaptations which contributed to your awesomeness and confidence to do what you're doing. Pls keep it up, you are making a difference!

Very Interesting, Mikko. In New Zealand we still have two languages but offer choice to students. So Chinese is taught as well as Maori, which is our own language. We try to offer as many as can be managed. Here they do a play every year! And great to hear your approval of the knitting and activities which use both hands. Good to know.

I got to a steiner school. Tbh when I was in grade 8 I got a lot of homework. We didn't have a lot of freedom either. When it started, we had a lot of freedom and theatrical plays etc(we still have a time capsule buried in school and no one knows). The principal is really good and kind hearted but the new teachers aren't. They want it their way and we don't have the freedom now. It's all academics now

I have had ADHD since childhood and was a voracious drawer. I would often hyper-focus until I considered my drawing done...I almost never left a drawing incomplete. It's odd that you finishing a drawing like that (which reminds me very much of what an ADHD person would create), would indicate that you DIDN'T have ADHD.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Attention “deficit” is really a misnomer. That drawing looks like potential adhd hyper focus to me! I thought the adults were just giving him something to focus on to cool off.

amazing video!! I was on waldorf highschool only, but loved it! totaly different than 'normal' schools ;) And I agree 100% about everything you speak about here. I also loved the fact that you make your own books for every class and actualy bounded books, that you learn how to make wool, get classes like music-history and art-history, be connected with so many amazing people (even if you where shy, like me ;) ) and work with your heart and hands so much. Wish I have been to the elementay school as well. And yeah..german.. oh boy :P

What to do when he become 7 and have to go normal primary I wish he can have a choice for something more extraordinary. First time I heard about Waldorf education from Conversation With God vol. 2 book. Then started to research more what is about and that's how I found your channel. Thanks for sharing.

After mandatory school (9 years here) I went to something similar to a high school (both less intellectually challenging, more practice oriented and with a focus on preparation for studies in the fields of education/pedagogy and nursing). In one or two out of six semesters in total we had one lesson of Eurythmy. Several of my classmates regularly missed this last Monday morning lesson because they had "headaches".

+Mikko's Adventure Most of the time they bored me and/or made me slightly aggressive, although I can't really explain the latter. I had a comparable experience when I saw a woman with a pretty high and round forehead recently. It wasn't a particularly strange forhead, just of more than average height and roundness. I had this pretty strong impulse to punch her. I wasn't having a bad day or anything and the woman hadn't done anything remotely wrong, but nevertheless I wanted to punch her because of her forehead. I didn't do it (hopefully unsurprisingly for everybody reading this) and wondered what was wrong with me. I guess it was a slight moment of "this other being looks unfamiliar so it scares me so I need to render it incapable of hurting me" thinking in one of the evolutionary oldest parts of my brain.

Seen as a moment to come to yourself and also form that group! Maybe shaking the teachers hand in the beginning if every class? The bit of food control with it organic stuff. Etc. Maybe choir. Which is meh. Once you learn a bit why. And how little shits kids give about it. You'll realise it ain't as culty as it seemed. Just a lot weirder.

@@MikkosAdventure I'm 23 years old and was recently diagnosed with ASD (Aspergers) comorbid with ADD and I agree, I can totally do that, it actually helps a lot to relax the anxiety that comes with it. Is not about not being able to do super boring and repetitive stuff is about getting pretty distracted, being unable to focus *at times* and constantly forgetting stuff but you can also do things automatically even if you are thinking a lot of other stuff (and it is also considered a spectrum, so not all of people with AD(H)D are the same or will have the same struggles). Don't let yourself fall into stereotypes.

When you mentioned diversity, I thought you meant of people :) but you meant of subjects, also important. So I gather waldorf School in Finland is state funded and the parents pay extra for all the extra subjects and trips? In Holland there are differences in how much parents pay extra, depending on their income, is that the same in Finland? It is said that nowadays waldorf schools are considered a bit elitist (and white), because they are more expensive than regular schools. Which is quite funny, because waldorf School came about because a factory owner who knew Steiner wanted the children of his factory workers to get a good education. So that was that! It was not meant as an elitist thing but something for everyone, also children of poor backgrounds. It has a kind of social base.

Thank you for your comment! I learned about ADHD at college and that's when I realized I was struggling with that all my life. I learned that the main problem is when I have to learn something I am not that interested in. But I later read that people with ADHD can focus much better than others. That's hyperfocus! Now I found a tip "Don’t start anything you can get hyperfocused on close to bedtime or before you start something you’re likely to try to put off." I was wandering what's wrong with me, e.g. when I would have 3 hours to do something that would take 1-2 hours, I wouldn't even started it just because I had limited time. Now I finally know why :D I was afraid of getting into hyperfocus and missing that thing I need to go to in 3 hours. I think it is because when I was 8 I went to the dance classes but I would sometimes go to my friend's house to play and then lost track of time and missed my dance classes. Than my mom said I won't go to the dance anymore. Damn xD

Well now days i think eliaskoulu is like the only one (at least in pk seutu) that has a 4 year lukio. Because all the school are broke.

The third year is kind of weird, so you need the extra year.

I developed a phobia of schools, people, and life, but then I went to a state school. I dont share Steiners view , that the Caucasian race is the supreme race.

I'm not sure if Steiner saw it that way. He had a lot of weird ideas and thoughts. The schools can independently decide what ideas to implement. Sorry to hear about your phobia. :(

Eurythmy had it's up's and downs. Useing the rods was my favorite. 32 years later, I still have my slippers.

There's just so much weird rumors going around. The school system is also very different in the US anyway. Finland is quite an anomaly, when it comes to education. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bammlmWjZdCcick
