Choosing the right exhaust for your vehicle can stump anyone, and if you think it all comes down to price- think again. Shauno from 4WD 24/7 covers off on 5 important things to know before adding an aftermarket exhaust to your 4WD including…
1. What is the quality of the flanges- are they welded inside and out to prevent leaking?
2. What steel grade is used? Some exhaust systems only use quality steel for the tailpipe and components such as flanges and brackets. It’s important to use quality steel throughout the entire exhaust if you want your system to last longer and get better bang for buck. Check out this comparison on steel grades for more info: www.torqit.com...
3. What brackets are used? Do they utilise the factory mounting points, so no welding is required?
4. What’s the diameter of the exhaust and the thickness of the steel? Remember bigger exhaust pipes don’t always mean more horsepower, in fact too big can actually reduce exhaust flow. The thickness of the steel will also determine the exhaust note- too thin and you’re going to get a tinny, high pitched sound.
5. Are the exhaust welds high quality? Welds are a key indicator of both the steel quality, and the standard of fabrication.
