@@kennylc2193 Lol... Anybody that showed up to our house back in the day unannounced very seldomly ever got in. I can still see my mother peeking through the corner of the blinds and then going back and sitting down.

The show was nice back then, but when I grew up I realized the show was just full of stereotypes. George was portrayed as a loud talking, loud laughing not from education man.
@henrycoffey12073 ай бұрын
I'm sorry you don't enjoy the show anymore, but you clearly don't have the historical knowledge to realize that this series broke a number of black TV stereotypes
@realcanadiangirl643 ай бұрын
Almost all characters from sitcoms are stereotypes. The classy British guy, the meddlesome mother-in-law, the lazy maid etc. Archie Bunker was stereotyped as a uneducated white racist who thought he knew everything. It's what makes for funny characters
@epicsseven76862 ай бұрын
No, George wasn't a stereotype. Before his character. Black people were portrayed as maids, obedient, and other Jim Crow stereotypes. George Jefferson was the militant Black man who balanced Archie Bunker's racist "uneducated" character. George was a self maid man who rose to the tumor, escaping the Ghetto. The 70s was unique because it confronted the social issues from the Jim Crow era. It was the first time on television that we got to see Black people stand up to white people. In the end, what was noble. Turn into a stereotype.
