Yes please! This is kinda specific, but I'm a beginner guitar player too, and I get confused because I want to play different solos and riffs, but I've heard that learning scales in the beginning will help a lot. So now I don't know what to do...
@taylorhand7293
@taylorhand7293 4 жыл бұрын
@@zeal2407 I've heard that too but I've had more success with just reading tabs and learning one song at a time. I've been told its the most effective way to learn. "Learning to play scales will only teach you to play scales." That's what I was told. Maybe try that?

More tips for beginner guitarists: 1. Dont be ashamed of your lack of skill, everyone started somewhere. 2. Record yourself playing. This will help you hear whats wrong in your playing and technique 3. Learn proper technique and posture. I didnt, now I have wrist pain. Dont worry about which leg you rest the guitar on tho, I feel thats more so personal preference 4. Learn basic guitar theory and practice it. So scales, modes, ect.. 5. Dont buy a guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge. They are awesome, but...it will hurt you as a beginner. Trust me. 6. Change your strings often. Especially if you play everyday. Edit: Wash your hands before playing and wipe them off after playing. It'll help make em last. 7. Dont buy a guitar amp combo. These guitars normally have terrible hardware that will get in your way. You'd be a lot better off spending an extra hundred bucks getting a decent guitar that will play well with a setup. I recommend the Yamaha Pacifica or Fender Squier 8. Learn the parts of the guitar 9. Dont have an ego with your playing. Be honest to yourself with your level of skill. And gear doesn't = skill 10. Join the guitar community! There are many helpful sources of information and many people that would be glad to help you :3 Bonus! 11. Tonewood doesn't matter. Kinda. Feel free to add more tips below :33 Edit: Since this comment has gotten a bit of attention heres some more stuff lol 12. Good beginner acoustics: Yamaha FG800, *Seagull S6 (*costs more but has so much space for you to grow) 13. Recommend beginner amps: Boss Katana 50 MkII, Fender Mustang GT40, Vox Adio Air GT, Yamaha THR10, Orange Crush 20RT (or 30RT) I couldn't think of any beginner valve/tube amps 14. Dont buy cheap guitar cables, they will fail. Also, dont leave your guitar plugged in because it makes it possible to trip over the cord and possibly damage your guitar or amp. Furthermore, if your guitar has active pickups it will drain the batteries. 15. Take breaks, eat healthy, and get good rest. Look after yourself. If it hurts to play stop. If its your finger tips hurting you may need a lighter string gauge.

Tonewood does matter, but mostly regarding the weight and density of the wood species
@ICANTSLEEP.
@ICANTSLEEP. 4 жыл бұрын
@@j.jonasjettison7332 I 100% agree, but a beginner shouldn't have to think about that as other things come first...and people can be toxic about tonewood tbh :/ Now, if we're talking about acoustics it all the way matters cuz tOnE lmao

Nice tips, but two honest questions, what hurts about a floyd rose bridge, and in what way does changing the strings matter, sound?
@ICANTSLEEP.
@ICANTSLEEP. 4 жыл бұрын
@@armankoc A Floyd Rose is just a huge hassle to restring due to its design as a floating tremolo. Also, some beginners will take their guitar to a tech or think its broken when they go to retune the guitar due to the tuning machines doing nothing because the strings are locked at the nut. A fixed bridge/hardtail or Fender style tremolo would be a lot better for a beginner due to the ease of restringing and simplicity of the bridge itself. As for restricting, new strings do impact the sound a bit. But old strings can be rusty, grimy, and more prone to breakage. Borderline ugly looking and not as playable as one deserves. Its not impossible to play on old strings though, but its good to keep them fresh. Washing your hands before playing and wiping the strings off after playing can help extend the life of your strings. Hope that helps :3

_ Diabootis it was the same thing with me but with Pearl Jam. I used to only listen to Coldplay and U2 and my mom would play some grunge songs and say that these were some of the best bands of all time and I’d always dismiss it. Fast forward to about 2-3 years, now Mike McCready is one of my biggest inspiration, and from that, since he has a huge Hendrix and SRV influence, I’ve gotten that blues+psychedelic rock sound with the double stops, some wah, maybe reverb, Hendrix triads. And from that I got into John Mayer and that satisfies both my Coldplay and U2 reverb+delay sound while keeping the Hendrix SRV McCready influence. It’s crazy how things come around

I remember thinking I could do music back when I was younger. That was back in high school, I had a music teacher that didn't care for us and only cared for his band class, and he cared even less when people began to drop out and switch classes. Only a few of us were left by the end of the first semester. He didn't even bother teaching us anymore because "we didn't learn anything from the prior lessons." So reading the thumbnail kinda hits close to home because I gave up so long ago, I even gave it a shot again after I got kicked out of said school when my mom bought me my guitar, but the motivation wasn't there and I quit a month in. I haven't been able to continue learning music, art or writing since. Still giving this video a couple views.

I've been playing for about 4 years and only just recently got decent. Do not give up. I was always sticking with the easy things, but as soon as I started learning harder songs like bottom feeder by kataplexis, I became much more coordinated. Recently I've been using a metronome just to practice scales and picking which is also super useful and helpful in the future. Also merk, if you've got your guitar tuned up half a step, I suggest trying to learn some Vektor. Great band, though idk how you are with vocals like that.

Good tip here as well, don't buy a guitar that has a Floyd special or something licensed (unless it's like an edge or under Schaller, Schaller is Floyd rose). Get something with and OFR or FR1000, or a Schaller. I personally have a gotog GE1996T on my Jackson King V. If you're not up to the skill of using a tremelo or using and taking care of one then stay with a hard tail/tune o matic or a fixed bridge.

My tips I have been playing for 4 years so I’m ok 1. Practice with the metronome it will help you stay in time and it’s one of the best ways to improve 2. Lock yourself in your room for 2 - 4 hours without distractions and practice 3 learn theory it will help you a lot especially down the line 4. Learn legato, legato is amazing and it helps focus on your fretting hand and helpful for learning scales 5 don’t worry about gear, if you have a working guitar and a working amp your good even if it is a Squier bullet and a tiny fender champion amp so don’t wast your practice time on looking for new cool gear

Victor T I think with me and theory the funniest thing was when I finally fucking realized that general music theory that was taught to me on piano in my high school class could *actually help on guitar* and now I’m always figuring out new types of chords and scale types. Thank god I learned theory. Now I can explain what I’m playing.

Victor T I have to disagree with the gear one, Get gear that inspires you, if you’re stuck with awful sounding and not nice playing gear you won’t have the motivation to carry on.

One other thing: make sure to keep your instrument in tune. If its not in tune, it doesn’t sound good and then you don’t want to play. Also, having gear that inspires you to play is much better than having the best gear you can possibly get.

People are saying don’t buy a floyd rose bridge so as someone who’s only been playing for a year and currently own a Ibanez RG370fmz (this guitar is currently discontinued I was lucky and was able to get one from a friend for very cheap) with a floyd rose bridge I’ll tell you a few things that come from owning one. 1. The guitar once tuned will stay in tune for a very long time, I’ve left my guitar for a good week and came back and the guitar would still be in tune, and even if it’s not it’s very slightly flat. 2. Hand placement - when playing with a floyd rose bridge if you have a habit of playing guitar with your hand rested on the bridge, you will not be able to with a floyd rose as when you press down on it it’ll keep slightly putting the guitar out of tune. 3. I don’t agree that you shouldn’t get one.. even as a beginner. Don’t be discouraged to get one just because others say it, do your research, visit a guitar store try a guitar with one and just see how it feels to see if it’s right for you. I do believe floyd rose bridges help your guitar playing as your hand doesn’t really rest on the bridge you kinda have to hover your hand over the strings, making you naturally have to play more accurately.

For me i want playing guitar to remain a hobby. I dont want to make music with to much dicipline so i will just learn a song i like a any point in time and i find myself getting better. Its a timely process but natural.

Hey! If you see this, I've been playing for 3 years and am wanting to start "shredding." What's the best way to get into it (either exercises, songs, arpeggios, etc.)?
