Might be my favorite way to fish is trolling, but in a boat , not a canoe. In a canoe, all the action is behind your back . Its a awkward twisting position to be in once hook up takes place . Plus if they become airborne you miss seeing it . And that's always exciting . Good video tho . Thank you .

I just purchased a Pelican Catch PWR 100 Kayak Finally got it rigged up so I can troll. I have already caught trout with the Kastmasters always do. I have flat fish I haven't used for years they will be in my tackle for my next trip. Thanks for the tip on the Pistol Pete's I have only used them for fly and bubble fishing. Keep up the good work. I've thrown Super Dupers for 50 years. I don't think I have caught more than 5 fish on them. F4 frogs and yellow with orange spots flatfish, tons but, my most productive has always been re and white Mepps and smaller red and white Daredevils in nickle color. But, that's always been casting off the bank. Next summer - trolling behind the kayak.

Trolling flies like the Pistol Pete and Woolly Bugger are extremely effective not only because they work, but that they are so versatile in how you can present them. Adding them behind a dodger is also a killer combo as well. I've always been a fan of the trout sized Flatfish and Kwikfish due to the fact that the trout seem to really commit when they hit them (an added bonus if the fishing is slow and every bite you get needs to count).

One of my favorite lures for Great Lakes salmon and steelhead is the F-7 silver plated Flatfish with hot orange or pink dots which I apply myself. I use these specifically in rivers and seldom troll them because my boat can't troll down as slow as your kayak. They really do need to be troll slaowly to work properly. I do have a few F-4s, 5s and 6s though.

You used 3 of my favorite lures. 1) weightless spinner ( I mostly use wedding ring) 2) Flatfish (I like yellow with red spots) 3) Kastmaster (silver). These have caught a lot of trout for me. I recently bought some Pistol Pete flies which I intend to try out in the next week or so using a fly and bubble setup. I also have caught a lot of trout trolling a Rapala original floater (usually silver) which has also caught me a lot of bass and some walleye. Years ago, when I was a kid, I used a Triple Teaser a lot which is quite good when trolled for trout. Incidentally Dick Nite spoons are around $10 for a 1/100 oz. piece of very thin metal a little smaller than a dime. Danielson makes the same lure called a Dandy Mite for $1.69. Just sayin, why pay $10.

Great video! I haven't used many flatfish but apparently they do well in the lakes in my are. If you're adding weight with a flatfish, do you just add splitshots a couple feet up the line or do you tie in a 3 way swivel with a dropshot?

I thought the 1/4 oz gold thomas buoyant was my secret, I've been using it for 40 years starting as a kid in western oregon creeks and rivers, I've used all the others, except for the prop flies, you might find those flies trolled slow with out the prop spinner might become your favorite though!... Not that I'm not going to get some and try them. Also try old school Indiana spinner the little two tandem blade with a bit of worm behind it when you use bait. I am betting you know that, you are around my age and I'll bet you have an old one in your box. All of it is better than gang trolls, to get the fun out of spunky trout. Thanks for your video's, you make me wonder sometimes whether I should sell my big boat's!

Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
