I really agree with all your picks here HG. You hit the nail on the head. I got a little hopeful when you mentioned you were a bit on an insider on "Scourge of War" too. I've been thinking alot about this idea and I'd like to hear some thought from other grognards: I think a 18-19th century wargame using Eugen's "Wargame:Red Dragon" IRIS engine would be amazing. Hear me out. The size of the battle maps are absolutely huge, lending to a lot of strategic outcomes and possibilities. The engine can handle LOS, elevation, and obstacles (like rivers) with ease. The interface is easy to understand. Order units to fast move and they organize themselves into a column and stay on roads. Right-click move and they reform into a firing line and move more slowly. this is already implemented in Ultimate General games. Same concept. There's an "attack-move" order as well, where units will automatically go on-line and fire at the enemy. That's it. Simple. For artillery you can select the type of shot to be fired. Grapeshot would of course be shorter range while solid and fuse would reach further. There are basically 5 categories of units to choose from with multiple in each category: Command (captures zones and gives passive buffs), Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, and Logistics. Infantry units appear as regiments of men. Artillery appears in batteries of 4 cannons. Cavalry is primarily for scouting and flanking (similar to helos in the wargame series). etc... SInce the engagement ranges are so small now and the maps are large, much effort would have to go into making sure your artillery always move up to support your infantry. So too would players need to ensure that supply wagons are continually moving from ammo dumps placed at spawn (like FOBS in Wargame) to the front, which is always in flux as regiments charge, break, etc... Morale, fatigue, and ammo would be the major factors being balanced. Bringing fresh regiments to the front would be the priority and then supporting them with artillery and cavalry while seizing key terrain would be the challenge, The infantry in the Wargame series is a step up from sprites, but has 4 basic animations: walking, running, firing, and dying. Its not like Total War games - allowing regiments to have hundreds (or even thousands) of men You control the entire regiment though, not individuals ofc. I think it would extremely tactical - maybe even better than the battles in Ultimate General or Strategic Command. Hopefully Eugen releases some modding tools for IRIS, but I doubt they will. Which is a crying shame.

I didn't expect to see the developer, it's sad that the game won't be released at least in March, but reading the news, I realized that the game release is just around the corner! I'm looking forward to the release of the game! I would say it's my most anticipated game of 2024!!!

I also look forward to the b17game. But if you look at one of the screenshots, you can count 12 planes. I would be very surprised if there any more in the game than. twelve.

Armored Brigade is a lot of fun and I feel like the 3D move is perfect for the game. I just wish it had a better UI (small and hard to read), the ability to choose entire formations and, have multi-national forces duking it out. I also feel the 2nd game places more between Warno and Combat Mission. Really excited for it

You can increase the UI scalling when launching the game, that should help.

I don't live for games, but I also get excited about titles too. B-17, I am very excited for the current version is only playable on a Dinosaur and meanwhile my most anticpated games have ended up on the MOSTLY NEGATIVE list. This is one I loook forward to a great deal, as the only game I've ever played that featured that magnificent death trap was Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. (Anyone? Yeah, never mind). So, I completely agree. Microprose needs to stop throwing all of this upcoming crap and focus on what we've been looking forward to for a year. Shove your Dev Diaries. Microprose, look! I' ve got money! I'd like to give it to you! I need a product, though! Januiary 23rd is right arund the corner, but I never buy on the first day. So, looking forward to seeing how it turns out and Great first pick!

I tried learning "Fields of Glory: Empire" but struggled to read the menus and gave up after only 5 hours. I'll be getting my eyes checked next month and am thinking of getting some blue lens reading glasses since I spend more time in front of a computer screen than reading actual books now. Perhaps then I'll give it another try. If "Kingdoms" is the same way I'll have to avoid it unless my near sight improves.

The Scourge of War takedown from steam is actually the result of some pretty brutal inter-sibling drama and involves cancer, death etc.. There's a pretty extensive article on it if you google

I think you're referring to Mad Minute Games and Take Command, as far as I'm aware, there was nothing of the sorts on Scourge of War, which was the successor to Take Command.

Agree on your microprose concern. The redux and the sequel and the VR b17 game. That's three separate projects. Think they'd have been better off just doing the bloody 100th and making it amazing.

They are the publishers not the developers. So far they haven't disapointed since their resurrection. Most titles had a very specific if not limited scope but they always delivered what was promised. If Ubisoft is Satan than Microprose is Jesus. Have some faith.

Looking for a suggestion I love the game U-boat the way it plays is perfect you get to both manage your crew supplies and do your missions with a German U-boat. Now I'm looking for a modern submarine game that is similar to U-boat where you get to both manage crew and still have to make your way from port to the conflict do your mission then return to dock for resupply, repairs and of course if necessary to replace dead crew. I'm hoping for a similar game but i'm not holding my breath i notice when i really like an idea the game dev world rarely run with the idea for more games. sadly.

If you guys wanna see THG cover the game with his own footage, just ask him, he seems to be afraid that everything was said already by the others and you grew weary of it. He might need a few encouragements, doesn't look too convinced 😅 Would be sad if that demo went to waste. But hey, he did much for us already.

Modern Naval Warfare is like Dangerous Waters but pretty and with dynamic campaign. A not so uncommon feature back in the golden age of sims.. like Falcon 4.0, Apache vs Havoc or Silent Hunter 2. But was pretty much abandoned since then except for smaller releases like Boat Crew recently. You sure it's gonna release this year ? Because I'm gonna need to plan my life around it accordingly. Seems like a great year for sims and naval wargames though, which I appreciate because for years when clicking on Steam suggestions for 'Naval Games' it only shows the same 10 games plus 100 anime things that might have a boat mentioned somewhere.

The devs did an interview in Nov 23 where they were shooting for a beta Q2 this year with a 'maybe' full release by Q4. But release estimates being what they are who knows

If you didnt have to exit the game, load a different game, play a battle, exit that game, start original game and load game for every battle, field of glory kingdoms would be much better.

In regards to ICBM, Iunderstand that genuine simulations of a nuclear war end up with nearly everyone on the planet dying. I fail to see the enjoyment in that game, in light of this fact.

I wish this list was limited to games that have a release date... or release year. I doubt most of these games are coming out in 2024. Maybe Field of Glory and ICBM. Worse thing about wargame dev cycles is the games are announced too soon, IMO.

Well we gotta build the followership, the wishlists, find publishers, feed mouths & spirits until release, etc... I can assure you that in general, for the little that I have seen with the chaps, it's a choice made by necessity, not by pure evil taste for sadism :) Cheers

How does teasing a game I can't buy yet feed mouths? After six months without a release date I just assume the games are someone's aspiration and not guaranteed to come out. It actually makes me dislike developers when they announce multiple years before they are ready to release. That may just be me, but I doubt it.@@DrydockDreamsGames

@@SundiataWTF Finding an audience is an integral part of finding financial (through third-party investment) and emotional support. These teams aren't exactly living off water and fresh air all this time ^^ They are dedicating their lives to projects that most others wouldn't see as viable businesses (otherwise historical wargames would still be a mainstream genre). That requires the kind of long-term support that isn't provided by simply revealing one's project existence six months before release (save for a few exceptions), I am afraid.

A lotta war games are made by 1-2 devs, and often by folks working part time. Scourge of War for example is a side project for a group of folks. It’s hard to make ultra modern graphics like that. Also often the games aren’t going to sell enough copies to support the latest graphics either and for a lot of customers of these types of games the players don’t care that much about graphics, it’s typically a secondary concern.

​@@thehistoricalgamer Fren your question is pointless because there seems to be no question for you that you need higer PC specs for this game than for Cyberpunk or Robocop. You know as well as I do that the game won't bring anything new...except the multiplayer and some juice for the graphic anons. If you´re looking in the genre forums you will see that I´m not the only one who thinks that. Besides, we have already Napoleon´s Greatest Battles, Napoleon´s Greatest Battles, The John Tiller Games...and Scourge of War: Waterloo which already covers the entire Napoleonic era. I have the luck to own Scourge of War: Gettysburg and Antietam and for me personally there would be no reason to buy the remastered version and here too the market is full of good “old” games like History Channel Civil War: The Battle of Bull Run, Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865), Ultimate General: Civil War or Sid Meyer´s Gettysburg/Antietam. It is a time of greedy devs and publisher which sells us her remastered games “Old wine in new bottles” for a full price. We will see when the game(s) come out maybe I'm wrong but I´ll come back to you. ;)

The listed specs for SOW remastered are placeholder specs. They had to put something up in order to make the steam page for it. Those specs are not real.
